This is one of those songs that when you close your eyes, for almost 4minutes you’re not in 2023 anymore. You’re in high school. You’re driving around at night with friends, 5bucks in gas, no destination and endless laughs. You have no worries. And then the song ends. And that part of you goes back to sleep.
I have listened to most Amazing 90s and 00s bands with likes such as Foo Fighters, Creed, and Staind. But nothing through my Musical Obsession has come close to Impacting me Emotionally the Way this Masterpiece Does.
Leaving the 90's was by far, the hardest thing I've ever dealt with and I've been homeless, suicidal, broken hearted, hated, picked on mercilessly for years, lost loved ones, hell I've been through the ringer.
That's what the 90's were. AOL and sea shell necklaces and chokers and friends and vhs/DVD players. Hockey sack and Chuck Taylor's and flip phones and South Park and y2k and a general sense of you can't touch this.
I'm sorry but you're wrong about that. I'm 58 years old. I love the '70s and '80s Van Halen and was my favorite. Came out February 10th 1978. The rest was history. That's my best span in the world besides AC/DC and Metallica
@darrencaschera-fh8rh when it comes to music, there is no right or wrong. No matter the time period, genre, or band, it's all about just listening to and enjoying the experience. We all have different preferences and reasons for liking what we do. Whether it's simply about the way a song just has a good rhythm, how it'll take you down memory lane to some great times long ago having fun with friends, or when it's something very profound or deeply personal that it changes you're life in ways no one else could understand. Music is one of the greatest things ever created.
I loved this video as well as the timeless song … it came out in 2000 .. lots of imagery of orange & blue, in clothes, in the set walls, the singer’s beautiful blue eyes, the actors’ orange & blue … I had returned to University of Florida around then for business school … it all just hit me right. Met my husband there. Now it’s been 23-24 years and I have 2 sons in college. Where does the time go? Holy moly.
There once was a man named Tim Davis from a little town called Springfield. He liked to sing his heart out, this song was one of his favs, he was one of my best friends in this world. He died on thanksgiving. He was a great person.

My buddy and I partied with these dudes after a show in the late '90s in Vermont. So cool and hospitable. We were a couple of 18-19 yr old stoners and they didn't give a shit. I'm 44 now and still remember this night. Some cool cats. Thought I'd tell this story after just hearing this song in a bar.
I was more impressed with Heart like barracuda and another song I can't remember if it is Heart magic man. Her guitar playing at that moment was transfixing. For vocals lyrics vibe and beautiful if not so complex guitar Stevie Nix of Fleetwood mac all the way and yes her greatest hits album doesn't need any skip. Tracy Chapman I believe might be 90s she blew me away. I thought Lita Ford was pretty amazing. Dolly Parton had many great songs. I do believe that we seen some next level female vocalist around the 90s. I would jump genres. Destiny child, Aliyah, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, I just adored Avril Lavigne, I am not sure of the time frames exactly but the Cranberries, Evenesence? Doesn't look like the correct spelling. I am missing a pile of fantastic female country singers. But taking it back again. I love Reba Mcentire Lights went out In Georgia. I can sing every word to these female country singers. Yet still haven't separated the names. Jewel was hands down my favorite for a little while.. please elaborate on the 90s. I would love to rediscover some bands of even learn some I don't know. She gets flac for whatever reasons but Celine Dion made me cry when she sang in Titanic. 3 older sisters out voted me. And I had a choice to watch it again and again. 3 times in theaters It is a great movie. Over 3 hours long though is asking a lot for a young one to just sit through. Seriously if you see this drop me a couple that will blow my hair back. Personally I love music so much that I am now bald from having my hair blown back. It was worth every lock. I just know that I am missing so many on this list.
I used to have this cassette tape and I played the crap out of it , especially this song . I'm 51 years old , and I rock out more now than ever before , and it is really fun !!!!
Carl Bell wrote this about his grandmother who died of cancer. I've always loved this song, but it wasn't until November 2019 when my dad died of intestinal cancer that I REALLY connected with it. I can also play it on guitar. DON'T FALL AWAY, AND LEAVE LOVE BLEEDING IN MY HANDS, IN MY HANDS, LOVE LIES BLEEDING!
My father also died that year due to internal bleeding from a past intestinal surgery. He had cancer and didnt tell any of us, unfortunately. My heart goes out to you ❤
How this does not have 200 million views I'll never understand. God this song always made me just well with emotion. Growing up every time it came on I would blast the high holy crap out of it on my radio.
Just got through listening to "Shimmer" and I had to make my way over here to this classic and beautiful gem. This song is delivered with such emotion. One can almost hear the pain in his voice. The first time I heard this song, I was too young to "understand" it but I knew it was special. Then, Chris Daughtry re-introduced me to the song. Thankfully, I was able to find it and download it. I cannot get through this song without getting emotional. I recommend this masterpiece to anyone and everyone.
Songwriter Carl Bell on the meaning behind this song: "When I was younger, my grandmother got cancer. By the time they found it, it was much too late. Instead of sitting in some hospital, she wanted to go home and be home. And my mother and my aunts and their husbands went to sit with her at home. A few months passed, and the cancer had spread, it had eaten up most of her body and all of her hope, and it was a bad time. One particular day was a really bad day for her. My mother was sitting with her that evening, and she turned to my mom, and said, ‘How do you die?’ It crushed my mom, and it’s still crushing me."
I'm sorry to hear that bro I understand my grandma died in 2018 bc of cancer they got rid of it it was hell for her and after months in the hospital she died it's crazy bc it's hard to believe there gone
The Internet wasn't the real problem. We also had internet in 2000 and it was fun to use it! Social destroyed everything! Thank Zuckerberg. He has turned people into a generation of crazies!
This was the first song that played every morning at 4 a.m. on VH1 Kickstart when I brought my baby boy home from the hospital 20 years ago. Everytime I see this video it takes me right back to those first days of being a new mama so tired so frightened and so excited all at once.

@@desiguy55 Your comment is either the perfect diss or an honest expression. Usually I pick up sarcasm or can tell when someone is jerking me, but not this one. This is why I have 2 answers. The first one is that no one can really steal a job. If someone didn't wanna do it how can someone take it from them? Another thing is you have to be pretty average and useless if anyone can just replace you. This means you lack skills. As an "American" you have to hold yourself to a higher standard this is why you're better than the rest of the world. There shouldn't even be regular people in the US. You seem to be saying go ahead Mexicans you can have the shit jobs my privileged people wouldn't take the time to do like its a humiliating thing. I hope the day comes when you have to farm and grow your own food then we'll see who is more useful for survival. That's one of the answers. The second is thanks for commenting and supporting the cause. I actually own a small business and grew up in Arizona. Went to school here and graduated from ASU. My wife is Italian and was born here she's 2nd generation. Every year we go to Sicily for 2 weeks and then we travel to Hermosillo, Sonora or Culiacan, Sinaloa where our family is from. Sorry for the whole story have a good day Mr sir

You know, bands quit making music along time ago. 😞
Yes! When I hear this genre of music it takes me back to better and happier days. They don’t make music like this anymore.
Now its 💩

How can anyone click on the Dislike Button!!! This was one of the BEST alternative songs of the 90's
WHO DID THAT??
Those first couple “don’t fall away” lines are probably my favorite 10 seconds out of almost every song I’ve ever heard.
I've never heard any word being sung as perfectly as the word "fall" is sung in those two lines :')
Never really picked up the difference between them and the rest of the song but they totally hit in a way that just feels so good! Hope your both staying safe and loving yourselves!!
“You don’t remember but I do. You never even tried” is that line for me…. I STILL f*cking love this song in 2024!!!!
Happening more and more .. been many years since I heard this song and it just popped in my head .. or someone put a thought in my head that wasn't really my own.

I used to love to drive around with no destination, listening to music, that was long before gas became $5 a gallon!

Class of ‘01 here. Just dropped in to second your comment. Immaculate times. If only we’d known then what magic were we’re experiencing..
That was my best years as a young teen with a drivers license. Good times. Sure grew up way to damn fast
God damn, this was poetic ❤
I love that he is such a skilled singer he uses his voice like an instrument.
it is an instrument
I have listened to most Amazing 90s and 00s bands with likes such as Foo Fighters, Creed, and Staind. But nothing through my Musical Obsession has come close to Impacting me Emotionally the Way this Masterpiece Does.
The transition into the 2000s. You can still hear the true 90s in his voice.
God. The transiting into 2000 was the sadest time of my life
2000s was a rough time lol
Leaving the 90's was by far, the hardest thing I've ever dealt with and I've been homeless, suicidal, broken hearted, hated, picked on mercilessly for years, lost loved ones, hell I've been through the ringer.
Nostalgia just slapped me in the face and now I'm happy and sad at the same time
Am I the only place that you've left to go?
This is the best, and most accurate comment ever
That's what the 90's were. AOL and sea shell necklaces and chokers and friends and vhs/DVD players. Hockey sack and Chuck Taylor's and flip phones and South Park and y2k and a general sense of you can't touch this.
slapped? nostalgia just came in like a mac truck lol
Older I get the more I appreciate 90s music. Some of the best rock and country in that decade!
@SC1157 got'em

Holy moly.
The intro is intense.... emotions are about to explode.

Huge rock fan from 1960's,70's, thought rock was dead until songs like this came out. Thank you.
That man is making the guitar cry during the solo from 2:19-2:45. It's the cherry on top for a classic song from the 90s!
70’s man here. The 90’s music had so much soul and emotion. Not to mention unparalleled female artists. Good stuff.
Brett has such a powerful (and beautiful) voice and I don’t feel he gets enough credit.

That's heavy. I'm sure she would want you to let it go, and to live the best life you could.
