Don't know anything about BP shooting, but, why would you have a "break-down" barrel on a muzzeloader? I guess I just don't know for sure how that works.

The best reason I have for converting to a breakdown muzzle loader is honestly just ease of cleaning. It’s so simple and easy, it’s almost idiot proof lol. Also nice to have a hammer instead of a slide to cock imo.

My CVA optimo likes an areolite in 295 grains with 3 whitehot pellets which is supposed to be 150 grains of powder equivalent and the funny thing is I take my muzzle loader out and shoot it a bunch more than most people I put about 170 rounds thru mine this year last year was the year I bought it and I shot just shy of 100 rounds to me its one of the most fun guns to shoot and I don't mind cleaning it

I have been using those fat green tipped power belts, like the ones you have shot the most. The best bullets I have ever used was the Whitetail Bullets, that were made in Tennessee, by a mom and pop company that went out of business. They were a molded bullet, that actually rode in the barrel rifeling, and you purchased them by whatever twist rate of barrel you owned. They were like magic, man. I sure miss those.

    • @user-bn3zo3mh5v
      @user-bn3zo3mh5v 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@slickdazzler7330 That sounds right but my dad has some. They shoot great out of his ML. They shoot great! I have a hard time remembering much other that than the Ball-et, but they shoot great, especially out of a slow twist rate. Not a very aggressive looking bullet but they get the job done and are very accurate. When you see some, buy them all up. Not sure if they are made anymore. I am sure there are more deadly rounds by far, but these shoot super accurate.

Hello. The vids are great. I started weighing the triple seven powder I use on a scale set to grains. What a difference. Super accurate groups.
I usually use 110 grains measured with a standard powder measure then put them on the digital scale and even all the loads to exactly 87 grains. I use Thompson center shockwave sabots in 250 grain.

  • @minigpracing3068

Are you using the big pellets for propellant with that rifle? Just wondering if reducing the charge slightly might bring those 245gr back into a tighter group. But if you are using the pellets there isn't much you can adjust without going to a different pellet. A chronograph measurement of the 3 rounds might tell something too. I'm really thinking about picking up a kit from Track of the Wolf to build, and fixing up my old 45 Kentucky longrifle.

I have an Optima pro hunter that groups basically a cloverleaf at 50 yds with the original 245s with one 50g pellet at around 1650-1700fps over a chronograph. I was shooting with 100g of powder till I found out it only drops about two inches from 50 to 100yds with one pellet instead of two. A lot less recoil, twice the number of shots and in my West tn woods it is plenty of power under 125yds. CVA makes some accurate rifles

I was able to find some 200 gr I picked up but it's looking like I may be changing over to something different after all this time. I experimented with some powerbelts in my wolf probably 10 years ago. Due to availability I just may be changing over permanently now.

I get the tightest groups with these billets too. Mine is zeroed at 100. I’m not looking for any long range shots with it either. I hope I get to test this bullet on a deer. I think they’ll do great.

My go to for the last few years in my CVA Accura has been a Cutting Edge 160 gr Raptor in a red crush rib sabot over either 120 gr of blackhorn or 120 gr of 3f 777. Both powders will run this bullet right around 2400 fps, only dropping about 6 inches at 200 yards with a 100 yard zero. Great for those long pokes across the bean field. Dont let the light weight fool you. I tried them a few years ago for a reduced recoil option for my wife and they performed so well that I started using them to. The combo is an absolute hammer on deer with probably a dozen deer taken over the last few years, and none running more than 30 yards with most dropping in their tracks with pass throughs on all but the most severe quartering shots and flawless expansion every time. The performance observed on game is much more akin to a centerfire rifle than a muzzleloader. I live and hunt in Tennessee as well. Mostly public land. Cordell Hull is covered up with them if you're looking for a place to go with good odds of bagging something. Let me know if you want some to test and I can send you my remaining supply.

Furthest kill was 176yds by the range finder. Luckily I shot it out to 150 and knew about what the drop was. Aimed a little further OVER her back and sent it. Dropped right into the bread basket. The muzzleloader would make a great “know your drop” video like you have been doing.

It all seemed very complicated. But at the beginning of the year I decided to try my luck with a muzzelloader. It's been a fun ride.
I got mine knowing darn well it would take a while to get everything for it.
It took like a month to get everything but its definitely worth it.
My advice if someone is tempted is to just go for it. Worrie about getting the smaller stuff later.

Like you, I hunt a heavy wooded area (Michigan's U.P. hardwoods) & I've never shot a deer further than 20 yards. For that reason I've always used the PowerBelt 245gr. hollow points. Thinking they would give me a quicker expansion. I would like to see a gel-pack comparison of the PB hollow points vs the PB with a polymer tip to see which expands quicker for the short distance we both shoot. Keep up the great work.

I also have shot a bunch of Deer with the 245 grain Powerbelts. Nice test. I might try some of the 250 . I am shooting a Knight Muzzeloader. Also very inexspensive gun.

I haven't this year. Did last year 25 times and saw 1 deer. The public within an hour of me is a waste of time

Killed my biggest buck with the 245 powerbelts in my CVA Accura. Had a platinum pb not expand as it blew through the deer and a small tree behind the buck. I am interested in the ELR.

I have first cva wolf I use 100gr triple 7 with a 180gr xtp hollow point in a sabot, it is the same bullet I reload in my 44mag. I am sighted in at 100 yards have taken deer out to 200 plus no hold over a very deadly combination, my friend uses same set up never let's us down

Just picked a Wolf up myself for a Muzzleloader hunt I got drawn for in Texas. So far I have only shot the hollow point power belts 245 grain and the 250 grain aero lights. With two pellets of IMR white hots they both group very well about an inch and a half at 75 yards.
