Phil was literally everywhere in 1985. Being at both the England and Philly portions of Live Aid, producing other artists albums, touring his latest solo album, recording new Genesis material, acting in Miami Vice and other TV appearances, the man was everywhere.
Interesting how several of the tunes the band covered ended up on Phil's Going Back album. He must have sent Paul a list of cover songs he was familiar with beforehand.
Dave is a really decent guy, I meet him in great falls montana back in 2014, you couldn't believe how amazed I was. Great Falls is a pretty dead town of around 60,000 people, I was walking thru the downtown area, waiting for a bus, I went outside to smoke a cigarette, as I'm standing there I see an SUV pull up and two guys get out and walk into a country western store, as they walk in I could swear that was Dave Letterman so I walk over and wait for them to come out, sure enuff it was Letterman, I normally wouldn't talk to anybody like him, celebrities, but he was very accommodating...nice fella in my humble opinion
He's always been grounded. Down to earth. He hates show biz people, and appreciates genuineness. He's standoffishness by nature though. Just his personality.
He has played on a number of other people's big hits. Peter Gabriel, Clapton, Annie Lennox, Frida and Tears for Fears, to name a few. So yes, his gift.
Well, the kid in the song stutters because he is so taken by a girl name Susudio. Collins sings it with a extra syllable at times in the song to show he is nervous. Not making fun at all.
As always, my boy Phil is hilarious and beyond epic.
Just Look at him in GTA Vice City stories.

I love him more each time I see one of his older interviews.
Me tooo
Oh...Take me back! I never dreamed how much I would miss these days!!!
We all know it's 1985 as soon as it comes on. The clothes say it all
What a fantastic year…….. the 80’s across the board were fantastic!
Stuff like this is what made this show great !
LOL... Back when Letterman was #1... RIP Larry Bud Melman... I remember the whole poking fun of Susudio era very well. The classic suit of suet...
2:40 Band is playing "Something's Going On" originally recorded by former ABBA member Frida. Phil was the drummer on the original song.
....as well as the producer of the entire Frida album.
@@anderslundquist3776 yep, his DNA runs right through that album, they met when Genesis recorded Duke at polar studios. Frida was a fan.
@2:33 ~ Phil reprising his pop drum clinic for "I Know There's Something Going On" by Frida was pretty epic.
Well spotted, you can tell he produced that album for her his DNA is all over it.

where were you before you went out?
Phil & Dave are awesome together
I didn't knew that story of tha Academy Awards in which Phil didn't sing his own song when he was already there!! That must have been weird.
Yep, Steve Jordan is a legendary drummer.
Yet most people would have no idea who you were talking about...
@@irplane Anton was more of a character on the show which is kind of why it made sense that Steve left ... he was a musician's musician.
Man, these dudes were cool.
he got Letterman speechless with that nine month joke. Hilarious
Another gem!
Good stuff..
omg his little performance of something's going on amazing
Paul Shaffer (band director on keys) loves to perform, but seems juiced to be playing with Mr. Collins. (as well he should)
8:37 This made me think: Su su Sudio Rodriguez.
back in 85, I know I had a shirt like that from some men's clothing store in the mall.
Phil is a southpaw. Never noticed that before.
The main guest is someone who was basically a footnote while the the second guest was a megastar and the third a pretty big deal.
Surprised there was no mention of Live Aid...which was only about 3 weeks away at this time.
Brilliant to see him drumming other stuff.....it's his gift!?

Sue D. Ohe.-Yeah! She was a great friend of mine for a long time..wonder how she's getting on these days.?
Man he sure can drum
De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da
Who remembers toast on a stick ?
Phil was in this time the greatest in musik like Ali in Boxing
Phil has a very good personality and love his music....
what song are they playing at 3:34? that one from the jackson 5?
@@stefanmatthias thank youuu
He was only 34 at the time
Just say the word, Ohhhhhh! Covfefe!
💙FINALLY!!! The true story behind the name Sususudio!!! "Humina humina oochama-gootcha Sususudio!!!"👍🔨🤣😂
Whats the name of the song right before the break?
@Nelson Robert Willis "There's Something Going On": written for and performed by Frida (former Abba member). Album produced by Phil.
One was ABC by mikal jaxon
@Trump Lost !!!!! yes he does!
What song were they playing in the first break?
Haha! 😂
12:13
song at 4:32?
why didn't they ask Phil Collins to improve the musical score a little? - that's why he's sold so many albums...he's so much better than good.
Phil was a good sport getting ridiculed for that song title.
This is from March 26th,1985,not June 24th.
Wrong.
Yes...because of the Academy Awards reference....you are CORRECT!!!
Who is the woman?
+Nicole Lovell Maria Conchita Alonso
@@agentknyne ^^ this
she was a popular actress in the 1980's
don't know what she's been up to since then
She was in predator 2 and aliens I think
@@furnitureconsortium And at the time a bigger star than Phil Collins or Dennis Miller somehow.
Ann Ranking butchered his song. He later admitted that
Pretty much why I hate the 80s
if this interview were held today, phil would be canceled for insensitivity to persons with speech disabilities. it was certainly a different time.
Well, the kid in the song stutters because he is so taken by a girl name Susudio. Collins sings it with a extra syllable at times in the song to show he is nervous. Not making fun at all.
Go outside
Get off the internet and go outside
Jesus thank God Phil shaved off that awful hair a few years later.
@MorbidManMusic DUMBEST comment ever!!
Pretty damn close....
20 years is a few years later alright
I call it the "Cupie Doll Hair Peninsula". Dave's hairline was holding fast here but he would be rocking the same look by 1987.
