There's so many fun things to do in Auckland New Zealand we couldn't possibly tick them all off - but the chance to hike a volcano is pretty cool! So we're jumping on a Fullers Ferry over to Rangitoto Island to do the island summit track.
Rangitoto is one of about 50 volcanoes in Auckland, but as far as we know, it's one of the more popular island hikes with a summit track you can reach. It's the tallest volcano so that's likely the reason, others can be reached in Auckland easily but because you can drive to the top or walk there in a few minutes they don't necessarily make our top things to do. Rangitoto is a good classic New Zealand adventure experience and day out.

We've been doing lots of volcano hikes recently as there are a lot of volcanos where we are in Nicaragua. They always seem to be a tough climb, but very satisfying when you get to the top 😀
Shame you didn't get to go for a swim, but good excuse to go back!

To have this on your doorstep is just incredible! 👍 I climbed to the crater on Vesuvius in Italy back in 1987, a never to forget moment. I still remember the smell of sulphur up there 🌋

Those "laughing bird sounds" are actually saddlebacks! Thought to have been extinct but they're now thriving. It's thrilling to hear them in your video.

Oh dear - Stacey,you jinxed our Covid19 status,haha,as you will now know,there's been our first community case in 3 months,not good,but still better than the rest of the world. Been binge watching you guys this evening,and although I live and work (back in Auckland again- boo),it makes me indifferent to the place,but I totally enjoy your exploits around the city - a place I know fairly well. Missing travel while living on a Covid-free paradise island at the end of the world is a bit cynical since we are in an endless lockdown here in Europe. I would happily trade places.
That's true and I would say most of us here in New Zealand love our country and feel very lucky to be where we are but that doesn't mean we don't miss international travel. New Zealanders are infamous world travelers and Covid 19 has been hard on everyone ❤
Also, we aren't Covid free. We just had an outbreak in Northland that they're currently tracing to keep it under control and out of the community. There's still work to be done here
We understand where you're coming from, hope it didn't come across as insensitive. Travel was our entire lives so of course we miss it (and rely on it to make a living) but we're still grateful to call NZ home.

Yep, watched the whole clip .... no turning off the sound. Been to Rangi a long time ago, but walked around the then many more baches (most have gone) to the causeway with Motatapu Island. I know I wouldn't be able to manage the track to top with my problematic balance issues. But lovely to have your viewpoint of the walk up...

I was so excited for this episode, watched it as soon as I saw it out and ran out of time to comment. But I know you read the comments when your next vlog posts so made a mental note to come back and say thank you for sharing this experience as I thoroughly enjoyed the video! Had no idea you needed to take a ferry, I think that makes it feel even more adventurous! The lava caves were a quirky twist on a regular hike and very pleased you explained what a weta is because I had had no idea. Entertaining and educational 👍 Definitely been added to the bucket list for when I make it to NZ ❤️

@Daneger and Stacey Oh goodness, I've realised just how stalker-y that sounds 🤦♀️ Living in lockdown boredom makes you pick up on the weirdest of things... either that or the lockdown isolation has made me weird 😖 (I hope it's just the former!)
After you guys had explained the weta, my thought was that I want to see one - but ideally from a distance and when someone has pointed it out. A bit like seeing a bear in a National Park, not to be surprised and caught off guard, but with enough warning to be left a bit wowed! I'm starting to think even thats a bad idea now 🤣
I was lucky enough to visit Rangitoto back in 2016 when my family and I did a roadtrip through the North Island, it was awesome and I haven't seen anyone else on youtube document it! Lovely video as usual you two! Binged the reveal NZ series last week and once the boarders open up to us over here in Aus I'm so keen to come over for another trip!

Than other nice video, Rangitoto Island looks like fun. NZ (50 volcanoes in Auckland area,) are part of "the ring of fire" a ring of volcanos around the whole of the Pacific Ocean. The Ring of Fire includes the Pacific coasts of South America, North America and Kamchatka, and NZ, and islands in the western Pacific Ocean. The Ring of Fire contains approximately 850-1,000 volcanoes. Stay Safe. 🧔

Beautiful getaway. We'll definitely add it to our Auckland visit to-do list. We have a dormant volcano within the city limits of Portland (Oregon, USA) but it's not as tropical as Rangitoto. Hope Daneger's booty recovered from the lava cave adventure ;)

Great video - you didn't find the big lava caves - you needed to walk just a bit further down the track. Also, I could hear that endemic, endangered Saddleback calling on your video but no picture of it. Are you aware of how precious the bird life is on the island as well? And some endemic plants too... Keep up the awesome work.

Yay you said - it but it is absolutely amazing. I have walked up to the caldera of Vesuvius near Naples. That is still active and tbh not very nice with the steam and heat and smell of sulphur in the blazing sun with no shade. Liked your volcano more :D
