    I have nothing but respect for a songwriter who can work a lyric like "Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengetti" into (believe it or not) a 4/4 rock song.

    9:43 The acoustic guitar riffs are awesome, but so low in the final mix. That quarter note triplet descending riff is magical.

    You can really hear that CS80 polyphonic aftertouch in action on the synth brass. Very expressive playing. Excellent work by David Paich and Steve Porcaro.

    I have been looking for this for about 25 years now, THANK YOU!! I read something once about how immensely layered this song was and that they used something like 48 tracks - which at the time was unheard of. I’ve always wanted to hear the parts isolated. The guitars are amazing!!

    • @janekolszak6761

      Either 48 tracks or 72 because I read somewhere that they used 3 24-track machines.

      Jeff Porcaro wanted to create a loop with a lot of different percussions. It was the basis of the song, and the first track recorded for the "Africa" session. Jeff and Lenny Castro created that loop track.

    Always noticed the piano in the background, especially when it gets into the third chorus and you can hear those high notes, and afterwards in the repeated chorus when it occasionally shines through very clearly.

    Beautiful! Thank you, thank you! Our 3 piece is going to try this off, and this helps immensely! Partial drums/congas, and the synths and marimba switchable in and out, all on a sequence. More rhythm on top live, as are bass/keyboard, guitar and 3 vocals. Perhaps a simple bass on the sequence to make my life easier. Exactly what we need!!!

    I wonder why the AI/Rock Band Stems chose to do these "Guitars + Marimba + Flute Synth". Of course that's how to AI is still limited in the mid range, but the flute synth has a distinct sound and should be fairly easy pickings, no need to sully the guitar track.

    • @rbstems
      @rbstems  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That was made back when AI couldn't really separate guitars from synths. It's now possible, so I could redo it in the future.

      If I’m not mistaken, this is from a 5.1 remaster that I don’t think band had so much to do with? You can hear it because some parts are different from OG track (the dist guitar every chorus for example). Maybe they did something with the bass too then?
