I had the pleasue to be at one of his concerts back in the 1980's when I was a college student. I was overwhemed by his Hangarian Rhapsodie No.6. He was brilliant.

Yellow River Concerto has 4 movements.
    1. Song of Yellow River Boatmen
    2. Ode to Yellow River
    3. Indignant of Yellow River
    4. Defending Yellow River
Here only the 2nd and 4th are played.

He's a very modest pianist. As a second prize winner in the First Tchaikovsky Piano Competition, in which Van Cliburn won the first prize, Liu met Van Cliburn in 2013, "The 74-year-old Chinese pianist-who had not seen Van Cliburn for more than 50 years before visiting last March for the competition's silver-anniversary celebration, and once again in the fall to be at Cliburn's side following the news of the American pianist's terminal illness (Cliburn died on Feb. 27)".

Lawrence Scott, which orchestra is this?

    • @lawrencescott7857
      @lawrencescott7857  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

This orchestra was put together by the conductor and a local agent, many of the members came from a New Jersey, based orchestra mixed with local NYC professionals. Cannot recall the name of the NJ orchestra, but it was made up for this concert.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I like the orchestra, they followed the soloist well. I recently performed the entire Yellow River Piano concerto in NJ and always am looking for a good orchestra to perform with.

God I always thought Mao shattered his fingers in 1960s, but here he is, that's wonderful.

+Dana Mukanova His right arm was broken by Red Guards using military belt (that has big brass buckle). Luckily his fingers were ok. But he was imprisoned for 6yrs, w/o piano, books, pen/paper. He practiced in his head.

+NERDYGAL 2 5yr10month is the exact amount. Honestly don't see the point of focusing on the small difference, one way or another.

+Dana Mukanova He was tortured by the red guards without Mao's knowledge. After Mao knew that he was in prison, he ordered his release.

When all the soldiers want to go to the front, the music can encourage them a lot.W e can use the music.
In peacful time,we want Rauf Di Blasion' s music mre than the music.
I have to say:Rauf Di Blasio is better than Liu Si kun.
    Rauf Di Blasio:Self-confident,open,excited.
    Liu Si Kun:
    Serious.Maybe,too serious.

Greetings, it is about time limitations, the concert featured other artists. I assure you he plays the entire piece. Thank you for watching.

Lawrence Scott Thank you Mr.Scott for your kind reply. A pity this fact was not made known, then I would not have made such a sarcastic comment. His artistry is above reproach, I would not impinge on that. Thank you once again.👋
