I used 2x4s instead of 1x6s to save some money. They are half the price and I got 8 slats per 2x4 so it only took 3 of them to make all the slats. Thanks for the templates April!

Holy cow April, just yesterday my middle son's girlfriend said she wanted a swing. I told her yep, we could build one but I would need to find a plan.
Sweet tea and watching the weather roll in, good plan.
The project came out looking great.
    Cool shirt!

I really like the simplicity/how well thought out this is. I wish I lived somewhere that the landlord did not mind this addition to their porch, which would look excellent. Nice job, April!

April Wilkerson I love sleeping in and waking up to your new video of the week! I have always wanted to have a nice porch swing. Your husband was funny...'man strength.' Brains over brawn every time. I would make mine a little wider so that my wife and I and at least one of my daughters can hop on together. I would probably use Heavy duty wire that is jacketed with plastic instead of chain. It is quieter and has less chance of pinching. Thanks for the awesome video! Keep it up!

  • @larryk3671

I built this swing using the templates I ordered and the directions online. It looks and works great. For the frame I used an old Walmart metal frame I saved after the original swing fabric rotted and connected this swing. I did add another brace and made it 5 ft. wide. It holds 350 lbs with no problem. Cedar is very expensive and hard to get where I am so I used treat pine with two coats of Behr Water Proof Wood Finish mixed to cedar color. They claim 4 years on decks and 6 on fences. Time will tell.

Also, saw your blog and it’s very informative. I used a few ideas and it really sent me in an excellent direction although my swing is much bigger and so the lumber dimensions are also increased and thus the weight is much more substantial, (I can’t lift mine the way you lift yours and I have “man strength”.) 😊

Excellent tip to put a bolt through the first drilled hole before drilling the second! When using bolt cutters to cut through tough metal, use the ground to support one handle at about a 45 degree angle and you will find that it cuts through like butter! Thanks for sharing

Dear April, First and foremost, Thank you for making me look a million bucks. I downloaded your templates and made a swing for my front porch and mainly for my 2 1/2 yr old grand son. Your templates turn out a bit messy as they were in multiple sheets when printed but then again it is my fault for not fine tuning them. Nevertheless, Your entire project appealed me a lot since it embedded creativity with contour pieces instead of straight cut boxy like bench. What messed me up were angles, lengths and contours that were not in uniform shape. Your videos, instructions and tips however, gave me the insight to make minor changes as I went along assembling it. Most importantly, YOU April, helped me take the fear away in this task. My arm rests are not as fine as yours but now I know what I need to do next....drawing a better design before cutting the wood. I am totally shocked at what 1 x Y" wood can do in strength and beauty and without a bottom back support. I tried to include a pic of it in here but couldn't figure out how. Thank you for your generosity in sharing this with us. I will be making more while following you in other places.
