- Champion midfielder Dustin Martin has elevated himself to an unmatched level of greatness, becoming the first player to win a third Norm Smith Medal.
The Richmond superstar, who spearheaded his team's third premiership in four seasons, stamped himself as the modern game's greatest finals performer with four goals and 21 disposals against Geelong.

Time greats are remarkably similar in season stats but are differentiated in finals.
You can even make the same case for the great Gary Ablett. Who may just be the best overall stats wise year on year. But his finals record doesn’t stack up next to martins. A bloke whose kicked 10.2 while averaging 24.5 touches in grand finals. Or that champion data ranks as best on ground in 12 of his 14 finals.
It really just depends on how you measure best.
Dusty gets a +50% accuracy bonus when kicking at goal after breaking a tackle. Only way to explain some of those goals 😁

Still 4 years later, as a die hard Tiger, one of the greatest to ever pull on the Yellow and Black and maybe even in the game. In my opinion this is the greatest individual performance of all time. He single-handedly flipped the game on its head and kept us in the game, put us in front, gave us some breathing room and his last goal. Wowee

Every kick within 55m was a shot on goal. He just mis-kicked that banana with the wet ball or it would have been 5 goals.
one thing i loved about this grand final was the game being close for 3 and a hlaf quarters. Dusty claiming his spot as probably one of the best grand final and finals players and gary abletts retirement.

I watched those 3 myself and K B is still number one only just now because of his body of work. Martin closing fast and Royce had a special presence and possibly the best kick for a tiger I ever saw.

I can only compare his last goal to the great Peter bosustow goal in the early eighties where bosustow smothered on the boundary and then snapped the goal. I was there and had a great view of Martin's goal. Any oldies remember the bosustow goal. What do you think.

Twice. Could have had Martin and Fyfe. Dusty has missed about 10 games in 11 seasons so already on 244 including 15 finals and he has 4 years left on his contract. Scary.

Richmond switched on after half time. Dangerfield played one of the worst games of his entire career and Geelong had far too many passengers. Not rigged, purely outplayed.
Maybe if the cats didn't miss there chances in the second quarter you'd be celebrating instead of complaining.

@@ethan76708 The problem with Martin was his consistency, yeah he had a lot of good games (especially finals) but he's also had some stinkers. Gary Ablett Jr on the other hand rarely had a bad game, he was killing it week in/week out.
Another problem was Dustin's lack of longevity, he didn't play at his peak for very long and dropped off quite fast.
@@rhysh2639 no he didn’t in Richmond’s 4 year run he played 2 bad finals games and 1 was the 2018 prelim when he was playing with a injured calf Ablett jr never won a norm smith which is crazy to me because to me if your the best why can’t you be the best player in the biggest game when you have multiple chances to get it. The other thing is when Ablett left Geelong they immediately won a flag without him proving his value. Yes Dusty’s peak was only 5 years 2016-20 but I would argue his peak in 2017 was higher then Ablett he just didn’t sustain it

I've been saying all week that the best grand final goal I've seen was Hodgy's... Until I saw Dusty's. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved that 2014 goal but Dusty read the play, shrugged off a tackle and kicked basically the same goal as Hodgy, just under more pressure.

None of those players have 3 norm smiths. And it was 4 incredible goals. Luke Hodge called him the best finals player to play and I'm not too sure he's a Richmond fan. Leigh Matthews said that Dusty is the only player that he doesn't get offended by when getting compared to Leigh, not too sure that he's a Richmond fan either. No one has said that they are better than Hawks, Pies and Geelong, just said they've been as dominant. Now I'd definitely say that they were better than the saints for obvious reasons. But instead of bashing the team that so clearly has been the most dominant for a significant portion of the decade, why don't you make it to 3 grand finals, kick a collective of 10 goals and 72 disposals between them? Absolute nuffy.
