I just say John Fogerty tonight and I was extremely pleasantly surprised they played Effigy!! I never say stuff like this but it gave me goose bumps. I don’t think I’ve ever used that expression in my life. I was one of my favorite songs when I was 22 back in 1998.
Great to see John busting out a sweet album cut! One of my favorites! Effigy was ahead of its time. It could've easily fit into the early 90s grunge scene. John's flannel would've fit into that genre and time period as well!
absolutely. The first time I heard it I wondered why TF did Nirvana never cover this. Then I read that some of the Nirvana guys played in a Creedence cover band. Was definitely MEANT to be. Courtney casued a rift in the STC
Some people writing they’re very disappointed? Very disappointed in those people!!! This is my favorite Creedence song. The original is an absolute masterpiece!! Can we expect it to sound as good as the original? No!! But this is still damn good. And I’m thrilled to hear it live!!
Saludos
Absolutely among the top three American rock genius ever. (Springsteen and I guess, Dylan.) I am so happy for John to have gotten his music back. I heard him play Effigy for the first time live last Sept. Unbelievable treasure. I wish he played Ramble Tamble, another great unknown song.
Prolly ur biggest fan here but John so glad you are playing this live but the Rickenbacker and the C chord steel guitar licks & the swells with the tremolo make it sound like slide guitar work that really make this song sound so great. When you were with CCR you mimicked your songs almost to the 'T' on stage. It sounds better to the ears that are used to hearing ur songs. I have been playing ur songs for 40 years and never change anything from the records and speeds are very close to the way you produced them on the album. The trained ear is pleased to hear it in it's natural form. Now jamming songs as in Chooglin & Grapevine are understandable in variations of riffs. Love it that ur sons are there with you!!! Have fun with it!!!
Very disappointed. No descending bass line in the intro… no effort put into the guitar work of the original?!! As a huge fan of Creedence since before I saw them in 1970.. This is a DRAG.
John is out of touch, but happy to play anything anymore. Bless him. No effort… as a musician I’m confused about him because this stuff is very easy to play and arrange but it is evident he doesn’t have any ambition anymore.
There is a descending bass like in the intro, you just have to hear closely. In terms of him changing the guitar work, that could just be him trying something new for the song, as maybe he doesn’t want to perform it exactly as he did on the record 50 or so years ago.
@@MozillaFireFox1967 I was very harsh and you have a good point. Still very disappointed. Just my feeling. I’ve been a huge fan for a long long time. Things change. People change. I wish him and every one of his fans the best
@@davidarchibald3755 - ah, no worries, i get exactly what you mean. I do feel like his guitar work has slowly gotten worse over the years but at least he still plays decently. Best wishes to you.
there are so many great songs that john has written that we just do not hear anymore these days. SUCH AS THIS ONE. LAWWD.
Arguably the best CCR song ever written, which absolutely speaks volumes. What a pleasure to finally hear it played live 🙏🏾

Never thought he will play this great song live !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the most importants songs made by John Fogerty. Simply beautiful!!!
About time John pulled this one off the shelf.

I am sure grunge borrowed a lot from John. Why not be inspired by the best?

This is a good live version of Effigy. You can't play it like on the lp.

Por favor, escucha la original del Lp. Gracias
I've always thought this was their best song-- the dirty guitar sound just caught me instantly! Truly some of the best guitar work of all time.

I think that is Har de Har, John's son's band.
Nah. I saw them tonight and they fucking crushed it
