For Flame Of Love we saw that there was a Dance MV too so we thought we’d check out the MV AND the dance version together.
After watching Sayonara Hitori, Flame Of Love was the most requested song. There were mentions of firebening, so as Avatar fans we had to check it out asap.
Flame Of Love hits differently compared to the other songs we’ve checked out from Taemin so far and is very melancholy and sad. The MV as always is beautiful and as we’d already checked out the lyrics in advance we understood how the MV connected to the song.
The dance for Flame Of Love hits differently than other dances we’ve seen from him. It’s amazing the emotion he’s able to convey through his movements. The dance with the fire special effects was just stunning. Netflix should sign him up as a fire bender in the upcoming Avatar!
We know there are so many amazing performances of Move, Want & Flame Of Love we’ve yet to check out, so we’ll be doing a video with some of Taemin’s live performances soon so we get to see them in all their glory.

Taemin's "Flame of Love" is telling a story of love and passion.Taemin and the girl were in a car accident in this MV and the girl died. Taemin was so distraught that he was incarnated as a phoenix in order to use the phoenix's powers to bring her back to life. As you might know, phoenix are mythical birds that have healing powers, etc.
But as you saw in the MV, as soon as she was brought back to life, the price Taemin had to pay was with his soul and he traded places with her, where he was forced to wait for her until their souls meet up again after death. That's why when you see her hug Taemin you see his soul leave his body and he is wearing that white outfit, which is supposed to be a death shroud, as he crosses over into the afterlife to wait for her to join him. Taemin gave up his life to allow her to live -- he made the ultimate sacrifice for love. His "Flame of Love" burned so brightly and passionately that he was willing to give up everything to have her live.
In the end you see their souls meet again to spend eternity together.
"Flame of Love" is another one of Taemin's Japanese tracks that is true art. It's one of the most beautiful MVs. Even though this choreography was complex I am sure it was no problem for him, after all he is one of THE BEST dancers in the industry. LOL
SHINee and Taemin are some of the most popular artist in Japan. They are so popular that they are considered part of the mainstream music industry in Japan and most Japanese people don't even consider them foreign artists. SHINee debuted as Japanese artists in 2011. They spend about 50% of their career in Japan promoting and holding concerts, etc. so they are all fluent in Japanese. And they have just as many albums in Japanese as they do Korean, but they don't just remake their Korean songs into Japanese versions, the have many Japanese exclusive tracks. And when SHINee or Taemin hold concerts in Japan they are almost entirely in Japanese, including the parts where they interact with the audience, they don't need interpreters.
Taemin is pretty fluent in Japanese! :) Also the hunch back posture is a body line I see him do stylistically a lot. I love it!

I think more than any other country Japan is "SHINee land". Taemin appears somewhere - Taemin and SHINee start trending in Japan. Super M does something - SHINee and Taemin start trending in Japan. They adore SHINee so much in Japan.
If you have the time I HIGHLY recommend watching this SHINee concert at Tokyo Dome - it's mindblowing, imho. I've never seen anything like it.

@@teacupfury6133 Super M is...controversal. Which I understand to an extend - seeing how the promotion for Taemins solo comeback was literally buried under promotion for Super M. I personally love Super M mostly for the interactions of the guys, they very obviously adore each other and get a lot out of being in this group together - but I also genuinely like their music and they really do have my favs from EXO, WayV and NCT 127 next to Taemin - so I am fine with Super M :-) What I meant though is that whenever Taemin does anything - be it as a solo-artist or with Super M - SHINee starts trending in Japan. Because Taemin to them is "Taemin from SHINee" and imho Japan loves SHINee more than any other country. Which ties back to your question about them being able to speak japanese. Yes - they all do, they have played tons of concerts in Japan. Taemin has said his biggest goal before turning 30 would be playing a solo gig at Tokyo Dome. Which...he'd totally sell out but now can't because of the pandemic and he will have to enlist soon-ish, so this dream might not come true. For me...I have realized that both my favorite SHINee songs are in fact japanese songs. They are also, sadly, 2 songs we will never have a complete SHINee 5 happy live version for. Diamond Sky and From Now On.
We thought it was a bit weird that SuperM & Taemin had comebacks at the same time. Taemin must have been exhausted. We like SuperM, but then we don't know them from their original groups (aside from Taemin sort of).
Hopefully Taemin achieves his Dome dream. That would be amazing to see!

@@teacupfury6133 SHINee are 5 and will always be 5 - that's how SHINee and SHINee World see it. And of course they still sing SHINee songs from 2008 - 2018. SHINee decided to do the japanese tour scheduled for early 2018 - you can find concert videos on YT, it's very powerful. Onew has been officially discharged on July 20 and Key last wednesday , Minho will be in 36 days and we all can not wait for a SHINee comeback. :-)

His Japanese pronunciation isn't like native speakers, but it's good enough that it doesn't sound all that awkward.
Edit: now Under My Skin is one of those songs that will pull on your heart strings. It's a beautiful, raw, & bittersweet song. Very haunting.

That's great, the song is so emotive we hopped it didn't have any awkwardness for Japanese listeners. Someone mentioned that all of Shinee learned Japanese!

For Under My Skin, I really recommend reading the translation first because the mv doesn't have close captions available. It's unlike his other dance songs that you have seen from him so far. In flame of love there was an accident and his girlfriend dies so I think when he exploded her it was his refusal of her death. Because he is trading his life for her or trying to bring her back with the phoenix. The meaning is so beautiful and I think the dance shows his emotions. Thank you so much for bringing us more content of taemin. Bring it all on we are ready for it! Thank you, thank you, thank you and thank you again.
Oh that's why! We'd read the lyrics and understood that they'd been separated (like the sun and the moon), and that the flame of love would carry on, but we missed she was actually dead. Makes sense given her portrayal in the MV. The dance did show the emotions though, you could tell his posture, and the jerkiness of some movements.
On the topic of idols in Japan - fluency of japanese dropped between 2nd and 3rd gen (not all I think there are a couple Exo members who are good at japanese) but i think BoA was one of the first kpop artists to really break into japan and she recounted on Happy Together that at 18 SM dropped her in Japan to promote with no translator so she had to navigate and do interviews without help. She had no choice but to learn. Same is the case for a lot of 2nd gen idols which is why TVXQ, Super Junior (I don't know if all the members speak but I know a few that do) and Shinee all have high proficiency in Japanese (I only know this case for SM groups though and I know that they got lessons at least or maybe had staff that are/speak japanese). Due to these groups success there subsequent gens now have translators and all these other things that 2nds gens didnt. But this also means they don't have the same level of pressure or immersion to learn.
It must have been really hard promoting with no translator. Poor BoA! At least artists have help via translators or lessons now. Though with their schedules, it must be hard to fit in language lessons after debut.
We have noticed that lots of groups promote in Japan. We weren't sure though if many had proficiency in japanese, so it's interesting to hear that speaking skills drop between 2nd & 3rd generation.
Taemin, and SHINee as a whole, are fluent in Japanese. They have been for a while. They started learning before their 2011 Japanese debut. However, Key and Taemin are the best of the 5 in fluency. Taemin is HUGE in Japan and regularly holds concerts there. He is always being complimented by Japanese interviewers and reporters on his fluency and pronunciation. He also has a separate backup dancing crew that he always uses & they are great friends as well. They are the best of the best.
It's funny you mentioned his knees. Taemin said in an interview one time that his knees don't get hurt because they are so used to being landed on, that he doesn't even feel it. They probably have thick calluses at this point.
The next Japanese video to watch would be "Famous", and it has a dance practice as well that's pretty insane when you watch the intricacies of the choreo. This song fits right in with his new album concept and was actually included in that album but in it's Korean version. The basic gist of the song is....It may be "fabulous" to be "famous" but it's "dangerous" (because you can lose yourself to fame) and creates drama, and Taemin wants "no drama". That's cool that they all learned Japanese and that he even has his own dance crew he uses there. I'm sure the fans appreciate it. He sounds as good to us when he sings in Japanese or Korean so we were wondering.

You are lucky to have not seen the atla movie. don't watch it. it's so bad. but lowkey funny at how bad it is. sad the original creators have departed from the netflix adaptation - tbh i don't really care for a live action i would rather see a cartoon based on avatar kyoshi
Yes, I was excited at first because the original creators were on board. Whatever happened, at least it would've been in the hands of the people who know the story and character the best. Then, everything changed when Netflix attacked! haha.
