- Something filled up
My heart with nothing
Someone told me not to cry
But now that I'm older
My heart's colder
And I can see that it's a lie
Children wake up
Hold your mistake up
Before they turn the summer into dust
If the children don't grow up
Our bodies get bigger but our hearts get torn up
We're just a million little god's causin rain storms
Turning every good thing to rust
I guess we'll just have to adjust...
With my lightning bolts a glowing
I can see where I am going to be
When the reaper he reaches and touches my hand
With my lightning bolts a-glowing
I can see where I am going
With my lightning bolts a-glowing
I can see where I am go, going!
You better look out below!

This song makes me feel the struggles of growing up and leaving the comfort of my childhood. But it's also comforting, like everything and anyone I've known and loved from my childhood are are saying goodbye, but will always remain in my heart.
The emotional impact that this song has on me is indescribable. It’s beautifully perfect.
something filled up my heart with nothing. someone told me not to cry. that part really gets to me

P.S WALTER MITTY AND WTWTA (Where The Wild Things Are) BROUGHT ME HERE!
For me, this song is making me want to cry and kind of give up on everything but at the same time, I want to stay strong and it lifts me up and kind of makes me happy. Is that just me?
edit: Checking in on this comment nine yrs later and wow! I cannot believe this reached so many of you in the way that it did for me:) I appreciate all these wonderful and insightful replies! Cheers!
No...it's not...
Just realize that the last half of the song is there for a reason. Cheer up :)

This song really captures the current generation: hearts filled with nothing, growing up and learning it was all a lie. A bunch of little gods turning every good thing to rust. Praying for this generation ❤

This song is a REAL song
Luke Whitaker This song is just life. Never say die.
It's a male anthem, Luke. You will hear your "inward man", your Angelico, who could never even speak about what he suffers.

Undoubtedly, this song is amazing. Music is so powerful, we should all fill our hearts with meaningful lyrics, hear what makes us shiver and feel young, this power ought to be used to spread happiness, peace, love and all the good inside our hearts.
Thank you soooo much for posting the lyrics in the description as well! You’re a real one.
Anyone hear this song on La Casa De Papel and think it was so beautiful? No just me. 💔 ciao 😭
Me too.

Saída da Lisboa da tenda. Eu arrepiei pq já conhecia a música e era a minha segunda predileta da banda, foi bem escolhida.
Sometimes through great loss, comes life affirming words. This song came at such a turning point in my life. I was trying to make sense of my life. I was going through some deeply depressive episodes. I had left Active Duty Mavy the year prior to this album releasing. I was a ship without a sail, a paddle or a rudder. I had such struggle trying to find direction in my life. Hearing this album and this song helped steer me in a better direction. It helped me cope with loss of identity. It brought me some hope.
Some psychologists sometimes say songs and music really can't change your life, but I beg to differ. Because like I said this was one album and song that just helped me cope. It showed me there is hope, but you cannot ignore your mistakes, you own up to them and learn from them.
Love this song, one of my all time favorite Arcade Fire songs, and just songs in general

i feel like ive known this song in my past life. lol
exactly what I thought when I first heard it!
Probably cause have heard this deep down, and when we hear this it triggers our memories to knowing about, those who are awake will understand this song, also I could reference a movie that is about a soul traveling through its different lives, the movie is called cloud atlas
Jane, It May Very Much Be True and Real that U Do. 😊
The melodies are similar to other songs. I guess that's why.
I’m 50 and really just discovering them,I’d heard of them of course, but never go around to them.
I really like what I’m hearing.
This song will be played at my funeral 🖤

Hey, that's the name of the album. ^^
I remember lisbon after hearing this, those moments were beautiful, when lisbon came out of tent and people went crazy.♥️
In addition, Nairobi died in this episode💔😭
Something about this makes me want to sob... But it's uplifting at the same time... I love it ^^

Am I the only one that feels bittersweet after listening to this song? It's an amazing song but I feel happy and empty and idk!
Me too
Yeah...idk! It's a bit of a depressing song. I don't really like the lead singer's voice either. Or the band for that matter. And I'm a Canadian.
icewolfbc Congrats on being Canadian. How's that going for you?
michelle aquino Great thanks! So far. LOL.
I feel the same way! I think that might be the point of the song though.
For example one of the lyrics is "Something filled up
my heart with nothing"
so it kinda hints at something positive and then turns right around and betrays that thought. This tone is pretty much strung throughout the whole song.
we're just a million little gods causing rainstorms, turning every good thing to rust. I guess we'll just have to adjust.
song writing doesn't get more profound than that.
Sam Yates yes that was always my favorite part. It's amazing that I really just realized how that part connects with the second part of the song "with my lightning bolts a glowing, I cant see where I am going" makes me think of my anger issues tbh. Toodeep
😁yup

Thank you Pandora and everything. I've been looking for this song forever. I was about to dislike it on Pandora to get a free skip for my workout, but decided to stay and hear it great choice. Sad this song doesn't get as much popularity as other songs.
...but this is their most known song..
+wait a minute that card other songs in general
I love this song. I recently heard it in the secret life of Walter Mitty, and the song brought a smile to my face.
The Dan Patrick show brought me here. This song is one of the best. Thank you Arcade Fire, and whoever posted this, and of course, The Dan Patrick Show!
I feel as though the world emotionally neglects itself and rejects itself. "Something," like parents or the way we've built our society to be, hasn't "filled" his heart up with love. "Someone told me not to cry" is a dismissal of a persons feelings instead of an acceptance. He is taught to be "older" in a way that is emotionally neglectful and rejecting.
"Children wake up, Hold your mistake up." While speaking to children, they must understand that it's okay to be however they are and accept themselves as this is love. When summer ends they have to participate in the world that was built for them again. When i think about it, much self improvement always took place in my summer breaks. It was a small frame to focus on knowing myself.
"We're just a million little gods," is an empowering and cool use of an oxymoron. But we cause "rain storms"
Our mind's get in the way of good things because of unhealthy ways of thinking, turning everything to "rust".
Then non-nonchalantly mentioning that he's going to do something about it. "I guess we'll just have to adjust " This tone makes me think he doesn't feel the need to convince others because he is sure of the change he, and the rest of the world will make.
Then the imagery of his "lightning bolts a-glowing" also shows empowerment.
Most would say you overanalyze but I say good on you, you are actually using your brain which makes you intelligent since you are able to understand things, that is very hard to find amongst people, though I get why all the people who are the most understanding on things and awake are spread around the world because all of us need to be able to cause a good change all around parts of the world
❤️👍🏽
This is a great breakdown. Most of this I had similar thoughts about the song beforehand. But what was an eye-opener was your "causing rainstorms" that made the following lyrics hold more weight. I figured "causing rainstorms" was just meaning playing around/pretending like children. But mental rainstorms makes much more sense. A fond memory or current experience can needlessly be diminished by a slurry of negative thoughts.

im fucking crying right now. i have spent about 1 year thinking about this song. i spent the last week looking for this song for about an hour a day. i am sooooo happy right now

I looked at the date that this video was published and MrCorrectness you might’ve LITERALLY saved lives with this song. I’m not over exaggerating that was a tough time for people with lost loved ones and just everyone around the world in general, this song brings the idea of meaning back into life for many.

Porque eso es lo que siento cuando da sus gritos con tanta pasión,me siento obligada a decir que es de las mejores canciones del mundo.. OS ADORO ARCADE FIRE!!!!
Listening to this song gives me the chills (in a good way). I can only imagine what sort of response my body would give if I listened to it live! Such an awesome song!
Such an emotional song. It triggers an emotion that not many songs give me..
This song should be at least 30 minutes long where the instrumental part gets people dancing. This is celebrates the crowning moment of the best and worst times of childhood. I can't explain it. But every time I sing this, i always choke up.
Dzisiaj jadę na koncert do Warszawy 🥰♥️ Marzenia się spalniają ,to będzie piękny , niezapomniany dzień 🎻🥁🎷🎤🎸🎺🎹🎸🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️. Jesteście cudowni 🥰♥️♥️♥️
To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other and to feel. That is the purpose of life.
in same time you can say it s sad song but also it s something like motivational
This song has an impact on all generations..
It's a great song, It always lifts my spirit! Thanks too The money heist, that is were I heard from!
I've always been a fan of Arcade Fire, but I've never read or listened for the lyrics. The lyrics are powerful in many of their songs. Even in the new album.

"Where the Wild Things Are" and "Walter Mitty" brought me here :)
I was 14 when I first heard this and it was my favorite song to listen to riding my bike downhill from my neighborhood park back in Maryland. Idk why it gave me such a strong upbeat and sentimental feeling but it's like nostalgia when I listen to it 10yrs later
cried the first time I listened to this - today 2nd to last episode of money heist part 4
and also the second, third and fourth time - right now
Good music is not dead YET.
Fast forward 6 years, good music is on its death bed
This Song is great to me because the artist can't really sing that great. It's quite bad actually but what he is saying is so real and his emotion so palpable that it really doesn't matter that he doesn't sing great. I can feel this.
Heard it at U2 concert in Melbourne Australia 2006
*Finally found it. Come from "Money Heist"..........beautiful song ....2022 On. Love you Lisbon. Money Heist - the best the sensational TV series ever.*
