Onew's voice supports the entire chorus. I feel like people give Jonghyun a lot of credit for having range but Onew has the most stable and consistent voice.
That's why he's the LEAD Vocalist and Jonghyun's the MAIN Vocalist. The Lead Vocalist supports and sings the chorus, while the Main Vocalist sings most parts of the songs. However, now it seems like Onew is sometimes the lead and sometimes the main vocalist, and the other three has a lot of parts in their songs now too.
Technically, Jong has the most consistent and stable voice as you won't hear Jong crack whereas Onew cracks a little more often. They are both AMAZING singers, but there is a reason Jong is the main vocal. He has the most stability, a crazy range, and is able to hold it all together while performing live, that the other members cannot do that AS well. Group wise, honestly, SHINee has the best voice control out there, next to TVXQ. Like, havee you seen their choreography? The fact that they can belt, and rarely miss a note, and dice as vigorously as they do is something you do not see very often. At all. They are all great singers, Jong just happens to be the best out of them, which is saying a lot, since they all can sing their assess off. Literally.

And about Onew, I technically agree with you IF he was like that in the past because his voice DO cracked a lot in his early years, I would say now, he improved his stability in his voice quite well now, and we hardly hear him cracking his voice crack since I think 2013 now. Ananya Subramani Jonghyun is some hella stable monster while hitting almost 80% of the highnotes lol, btw Onew does have the widest range out of SHINee, his lower register is insane, but talking about higher register then it's all about Jonghyun with some higher notes than him, it's okay, both are really good vocalists

I have never been so EXHAUSTED watching a stage, like DAMN! They are singing VERY DIFFICULT notes AND dancing like they don't have to sing at the same time, like OH MY GOSH! If anyone ever talks shit about Shinee, imma show them this and ask them, "do you think untalented human beings can do this?" THE ANSWER IS NO!
