Chris, Great breakdown Yak Power is taking all the fun out of rigging Fishing Kayaks LOL. When I outfitted my Yak with Power I had to make all my running wires and Power Box, it sure makes things eaiser.
This looks like a great way for me to finally add some lights to the yak. I've been holding off for a while bc I'm not a huge DIYer but this at least seems to help take some of the guesswork out of power/lighting options. Great video!
I plugged my battery and fish finder up. I pressed the power button on the remote and it lit up. I then pressed the B and it went out and now I can't get it to power back up. Thoughts?
This is exactly what I need! How long is the power wire that runs from the circular control panel to the Yak Power control box where it splits to 5 different wires? I would like to mount the control panel somewhere next to my seat on my Outback but also had the box on top of my waterproof box that my battery is in. And I already have LED light strips on my bow, will they be able to hook up? I'm guessing I would just need a certain plug for the end of the wire?
Great review Chris. I picked my Yak Power supplies up at Bass Pro today. Haven't decided if I will use their battery box or make my own with a larger and lighter lithium battery. Do I need to run in-line fuses on the battery connection before the panel box and in front of each component or some variation of this depending on the draw of the component? I Will be running a Lowrance, Power Pole Micro, 360 Light, Interior Lights, and USB ports for phone and GoPro. I want to protect my equipment and be safe should should a fault/short circuit develop and I have little electrical experience. Thanks!
Considering this yak power switch is one unit and not different switches, Iwould run inline fuses between switches and the components. Make sure the fuse are not any larger then they have to be. A fuse between battery and switch is a good idea too
I guess it depends on your budget but as far as ready made solutions, yep. The 5 button controller with switcher box is $80. Remote $40. Lots of other options for plug and play. The 5 switch controller is the most expensive on the electrical side. The lights are available in tons of different packages and prices.
Damn. I was just gathering switches and outlets to make a battery box, and was looking locally for a decent Pelican case, and I see this vid. Hmm.......
No. A trolling motor needs a 30amp and this has a max load of 15. You can run lights, a fish finder, micro power pole, and a bluetooth speaker set up on it though.
Even a small 30# trolling motor recommends a 50 amp breaker in line with the positive lead, not a 30 amp. Check your trolling motor manual. There is a chart that spells out thrust vs. wire size and breaker size.
sorry to say your not a good instructional video. I was looking to understand my yak power on my new ascend 128T. they don't give you any information on it in the manual.
I can understand that for the most part, because its basically a rich man's world. If you are poor, have family or have a sh*tty job than you are S.O.L. (i.e. the majority of the country). However, just for the Switch and battery box alone its $178.99, which doesn't include any fused lines, adapters, outlets or extensions. That could really run into a small fortune really quick!
You don't have to buy all of it though. Or any of it if you don't want. Thats the beauty of the system. It can be as simple or as complex as you want it. All of the pieces and parts can be purchased separately. You gotta do what you can. There are many YT videos on how to make a DIY setup. They won't have the longevity or polish that the Yak Power system does but it can be done. I know because I've done it. This just takes a lot of the guesswork out of all the soldering and fuses etc that a DIY system requires.

Perfect! Thanks for sharing the link. Excited to see all the stuff in stores!
Great break down Chris. For sure will be making a purchase on the new flat deck and some accessories. Thx once again!
Keith Lapere happy to help!
Chris,
Great breakdown Yak Power is taking all the fun out of rigging Fishing Kayaks LOL. When I outfitted my Yak with Power I had to make all my running wires and Power Box, it sure makes things eaiser.
It is definitely easier! I've soldered and stripped my fair share and don't want to do it again if I can avoid it!
This looks like a great way for me to finally add some lights to the yak. I've been holding off for a while bc I'm not a huge DIYer but this at least seems to help take some of the guesswork out of power/lighting options. Great video!
Wes, I'll have a light install video up in the next couple of weeks!
i just got a yakpower 128 and its amazing the features. i bought barely used. dude had stern and bow light already rigged up and deck led lights.
I plugged my battery and fish finder up. I pressed the power button on the remote and it lit up. I then pressed the B and it went out and now I can't get it to power back up. Thoughts?

can you run a trolling motor off of this unit?

Contact Yak Power. What problem are you having?

Casey Reed yes and the switcher is potted and sealed as well.
10 million bucks? Or DIY couple bob
Hey 1 st comment.... Haha good info chris
Thanks Steve!!!!
Can't see a darn thing your holding up!

Showing all that without the kayak is kinda ...Useless..
See my other videos Fred. I have an install video, this walkthrough of parts, and a walkthrough of the 128T with it already installed.
oh yeah...found it later...Good Job!!!
Why does everything good (or worthwhile) have to be priced so only the wealthy can afford it?!
I wouldn't say this is prohibitively priced. No product is going to be affordable for 100% of people.

because it has the word "boat" on it.
