Hey man, great video, Its me, I also use the xh2s xt3 on proffesional work but the issue is the tracking , If a subject is walking towards or away from , dynamic shot , the camera it will lose you and you will get an unusable shot, Proffesional does not mean manual focus in 2024 in my opinion, And also about the hand test you see the behaviour with a much shallower deph of field. Also check my last video if you didnt , If there s no object blocking the face it is still doesnt focus perfectly on the eye (mostly, not always). Im not saying you cant use the camera , I am saying if you need good af tracking both video or stills for moving subjects you can t rely on it. Keep it up, my point of doing those is to make lot of noise so they can fix it one day because I too (secretly) love the camera besides the af.
I agree, I saw your latest video and I had similar results but the fact that it is inconsistent is not good at all and Fujifilm should fix it. Keep up the good work btw!
@@Iamquiroga Forgot to add something , tracking values in fujifilm means : The camera will wait between 0 and couple seconds/miliseconds before it starts again to re-focus , it is not actually "tracking" , it is more like "Oh there's no focus , lets wait 2(tracking4) seconds before we readjust , And that's why your test with the hand didnt switch faster to the hand , if you had 0 tracking speed it would almost immediately do it. And you dont need to cover half of you face or an eye, just a half of the cheek or less to see this "new feature" in action.
The problem is that the camera sees your eye at 1:12 and it puts a box on your eye, it tells you that it has acquired focus on the eye, but in reality the focus is on your hand. I would prefer if it looses focus, puts the box on your hand and tell you exactly what it is doing and you can adjust. This is what bugs me the most. It's the same in photos, you take a photo, the camera shows you where to box is, but the focal point is completely wrong. I've tried it with my dog, while it wasn't moving at all. Focus box on the eye and the focus is on the mouth. It looked completely fine while looking through the LCD. At least show me that you can't find the eye or that the focus is on the mouth, I would prefer that! XH2s user here.
I think a big issue with the AF is it doesn’t just work. You have to go in and change and adjust, and tweak and play with. And switch setting from multi to wide/tracking ETC.. just give us a smart focus mode that can tell what type of photography/video we are shooting and automatically change the focus settings to match for the suitable conditions.
@@Iamquiroga Yeah I really think that this is the issue. At least when using other cameras af systems they seem more fluid like this. where with fuji any little change I have to dive into the menus. I do agree that the LM lenses were better. I purchased the XH2s for motorsports mainly at the time, and it was close to the (5 yr old at the time) Sony A9 when shooting motorsports. But it would find faces while in Automobile Detect for no reason at times. I would have stayed with Fuji if they would've updated the 50-140 or given us a 1.8 zoom ( like the Sigma 50-100 1.8 APSC) for better low light. I did get frustrated with a wedding I shot using the XH2s and XT5. I believe with better, updated low light zooms, the system would be better to use professionally. But if it works for people in a professional setting, kudos to them and I hope it just gets better. Fuji is a great system, colors and film sims especially, but I needed better AF and more importantly, better low light capabilities that I am getting with my Z8 and the Nikon FF system. People talk so bad about Nikon, but the Z6II had better AF and low light capabilities than any FUji camera I had. XH2s, XH2 and XT5. I do miss the smaller lenses ( the bodies were about the same size of the Z6/Z7 FF Bodies) at times.
I only use the 16-55 and 50-140 for video work and I have no problems with it. I use my H2s in area AF and I control the box manually. For talking head videos I just use Eye AF and it never misses. I’ve seen Sony, Nikons and Canons miss AF as well. It’s all about knowing your camera.
With the XT-50 just came out, one feature that the XH2s can have is the touchscreen subject tracking just like Sony has, and only then the Fuji XH2s should worth 2500$
I am planning to upgrade from xt 3 to xh2s ... There is a very negative review on autofocus of xh2s ...is it really that bad ?? Or is it just a negative marketing
I believe it’s just this firmware update 6.0, when I first bought it it was super sticky and reliable but since the firmware update it became more buggy but as you can see it still works fine but not great. I still like it though
"is it really that bad ??" its even worse. I own an xh2s and not using anymore until they solve the last AF issues that 6.00 firmware brought to all of us... the 5.10 worked well for me (could be better, but usable).
I’ve been using my A7iii for a very long time now and recently got the xs20+xc15-45 to experience the Fuji ”magic” people talk about. I really love Fuji now and it takes wonderful pictures/video but video autofocus isn’t great in comparison. I’m personally fine zoom in video but Fuji does the weirdest lens corrections while zooming that drive me crazy. I thought I’d be selling off my Sony gear and migrating but I’ll just keep a death grip on my A7iii until I actually need something better. The xs20 was cheap so I’ll probably just keep it forever as my toss around.
Dang :/ so far I haven’t been in a situation where it let me down but I know that the zooms are buggy I recommend you get the 16-55 it’s a much better lens but still a bit buggy
@@Iamquiroga if Fuji autofocus caught up with Sony/Canon and it wasn’t lens specific I’d sell my current gear and switch. I really like the stacked sensor and dynamic range in flog2 on the XH2S. Eterna is awesome and options for speed or dynamic range is actually really cool too. For context I’ve flown my A7iii on a gimbal fully autofocus inside a corporate building with zero issues. Always stuck to the face. I wouldn’t trust the xs20 with that but maybe I just don’t have the right lens or experience with Fuji. Like you said learn your system.
I think it's not so much about how desperately one needs the Fujifilm's Auto Focus, it's more about realising that Fujifilm doesn't seem to bother that they are miles behind their AF technology. And that's what most users are freaked up about, including myself. We all want that our favorite brand is on top of the game and being dead serious about it. And it's not only about Fujifilm AF. They really should also take a closer look at their menu system, which is a failure and a joke in 2024. I don't rely need the AF, because I love my MF lenses more than I'd care about how good the AF actually performs.
Yeah I agree, seeing the feedback Fujifilm users are giving, I hope not only fujifilm responds and fix the AF but at least responds for the sake of their customers and not be like other camera brands
While I agree there are issues with the firmware. What most people seem to not think of is Fuji may get everything to work in the lab but when you push out firmware to the masses , that's when you find the bugs. That's with any tech. I've been In the tech industry for 17 years and I've seen where firmware fixes one thing and breaks another, this is not new. No matter how expensive the product , demand and timelines do not allow for everything to come out perfect. Look at video games , they are in development for years , then they are released and bam "issues" . Look at anything tech related and tell me they've never had issues with firmware updates . Now if you bought a Fujifilm thinking it was going to have perfect AF , you really didn't do your research. Not giving them a pass I'm stating a fact. They have never had the best track record when it comes to AF yet, most people can get it to work for them. I watch a lot of TH-camrs and I've seen canons and Sony cameras have AF issues . Even Panasonic made a bold promise with the S5 mark 2 cameras that they still are working on getting the AF to be better. Again I agree this needs to be fixed but, I also know this is not new to tech or Fuji when it comes to firmware. Is it disheartening? Yeah especially when you are trying to use it for professional gigs but, it will be fixed. It's their first entry into getting touch to track for video.
“I don’t miss shots where I’ve lost a client” But you said you did miss a shot you had to re do but thankfully the client was a good person lol. I’m just pointing that out is all
I noticed that too! 😂 but yeah that was like a small gig and he was cool but my main big clients and weddings it didn’t fail but I did struggle here and there but not enough to ruin the clips or video in a whole
Tips Pick one eye Change to zone Increase sensitivity 4 95% hit rate 👌 YES USE RIGHT LENSES THE issue isn't the sesnor ...I suspect it's filter over the lenses
There is NO excuse anymore in 2024 for only ok AF-C. I live in germany and I paid way much more than 2500 dollar. I will not upgrade. Fuji is becoming the new panasonic. The question is in the end WHY is it not as good as Sony or canon mr. or mrs. Fuji?
in terms of Photography the AF is absolutly Fu....ed. Tryed to take pictures from a sitting duck, the green box was Perfectly on the eye and i tought i tooked some decend shots. than u go in lightroom and see that there is not even one sharp foto. focus is on a leave, a branch or something else WHICH IS NOT EVEN NEAR THE EYE OF THE DUCK! i mean the xh2s is packed with good hardware but this af since the last update is killing me rly. the camera tricks u (with the latest Firmware) that u think u got a nice shot but in the edit u see the horrible result. And before u rant on me, was on a fast enough shutterspeed and a decent fuji lens (50-140mm with the Linear motors). I went full into the fuji system (xh2/2s) but the more i get into professional work, the more this kamera lacks in terms of what she could do. for their x-Flagship in 2024 they should fix this problem fast and rly work on their sofware. Instead they bring camera after camera just to bound all their fans with new fancy little cams like x100vi or the new xt50 (price is absolutly hilarious). Maybe they should put more work into their software to be kind of competitive. if they dont fix that i see myself keeping the xh2 for some chilled photography but for my professional and charged work i will switch to sony. a7V is not that far away and their new ai- autofocus like on the r7v and 6700 is rly rly hard to ignore. Makes me sad, i tought that they learend something the last 2 years of their firmware policy with their "Minor" bugs. if u be rly honest, xh2/xh2s are with this update overpriced stills kameras with autofocus from 2015
I always find these kinds of af tests just plain silly. How often do you find yourself in situations like that? I have the X H2s and have had no issues with the af. It's near on par with the Sony A7iv and R6ii (I've had both)
That's what I said at the end of the video... But you can see the focus lose me randomly and it never did that before and I'm assuming it's a bug with the 6.0 Update.
I have the new X100VI and X-Pro2. The focus is not accurate on the X100VI in AF-C. Also after last update. Not a problem on my old X-Pro2 with many classic Fuji lenses like 35mm f1.4 or 18mm f2 - not the fastest lenses, bat accurate... My GRIII and GRIIIX are slower, but more accurate in eye AF than the new X100VI. I have owned mode than 20 pro cameras in last 15 years, paid jobs with Canon, know my cameras with closed eyes. And I can tell you the new Fuji's AF-C is NOT ACCURATE. It's not about "not as good as Canon/Sony.... It's not accurate! That is the problem. Not the speed, not the settings. I can agree with @edvard2942 on this.
I think a good autofocus system should be good regardless of the setting you use and that's the issue I have with the Fujifilm cameras. I personally have no issue with zone autofocus it's accurate but the eye autofocus is hit or miss and to me that's a big issue. I will say most of the time eye tracking hits but in difficult situations, it doesn't.

For talking head videos I just use Eye AF and it never misses.
I’ve seen Sony, Nikons and Canons miss AF as well. It’s all about knowing your camera.
I agree
what are your autofocus settings?
Tracking +4
Autofocus +5
If I want a faster autofocus I put tracking to 0
With the XT-50 just came out, one feature that the XH2s can have is the touchscreen subject tracking just like Sony has, and only then the Fuji XH2s should worth 2500$
The new Canon is supposed to stay locked on to the chosen subject it's coming!
I'm still waiting for Fuji to solve this problem, which is unacceptable, especially on a flagship camera..gz
I agree 100%
Is the fix a firmware update away, or are we talking hardware at this stage?
“I don’t miss shots where I’ve lost a client”
But you said you did miss a shot you had to re do but thankfully the client was a good person lol. I’m just pointing that out is all
I noticed that too! 😂 but yeah that was like a small gig and he was cool but my main big clients and weddings it didn’t fail but I did struggle here and there but not enough to ruin the clips or video in a whole
Tips
Pick one eye
Change to zone
Increase sensitivity 4
95% hit rate 👌
YES USE RIGHT LENSES
THE issue isn't the sesnor ...I suspect it's filter over the lenses
Any tips for photos in AFC mode? Thank you
Fuji should stop making cameras and focus on fixing their autofocus.
Stop making cameras and stop adding features, we are good, we need better AF
And stop making silly lenses. 16-50 f2.8-4.8... we need AF Issues solved as soon as fuck
Fujifilm is good enough when you're behind the camera, but when it comes to filming yourself and having to trust the AF system it falls behind.
That’s a perfect example 👌
AF and IBIS is bed. All other is excellent.
There is NO excuse anymore in 2024 for only ok AF-C. I live in germany and I paid way much more than 2500 dollar. I will not upgrade. Fuji is becoming the new panasonic. The question is in the end WHY is it not as good as Sony or canon mr. or mrs. Fuji?
No I agree with you 100%
in terms of Photography the AF is absolutly Fu....ed.
Makes me sad, i tought that they learend something the last 2 years of their firmware policy with their "Minor" bugs. if u be rly honest, xh2/xh2s are with this update overpriced stills kameras with autofocus from 2015
I feel you might do the same if nothing is fixed
I think they cannot fix it. Its just how Fujifilm works/does
I always find these kinds of af tests just plain silly.
Even in your video it's not acceptable for a 1000$+ camera to hunt focus like this...
I agree
I don’t even own a Fuji why am I watching this 😂
Just to avoid buying them.. believe me, you are saving thousands of dollars
these tests are really dumb. When you do stick your hand in front of the lens like that?
it exists in other scenarios, such as birds with branches in front of it. green box catches the eye, but the branch is in focus
How to fix it: Switch to Canon.
😂
Agree. fking agree. Or Sony, or whatever. But not Fuji. Brand is gonna lose money really bad if they dont solve last AF issues
