    My two goofs just stand in it and really look pathetic. They have 2 separate dry areas to go too.

    woodchips work great for large areas, usually free and sustainable.

    I'm a new chicken mommy and I open my coop every morning, rain or shine. They have come out every time, even when it was a downpour. I've heard that wild birds love the rain so why not chickens too, right? ;) Off to see if you have a video about the pool area. I've thought about putting one in my run but am unsure about my girls drowning in it. ;)

      Hey! Let me know if I can help more. Full grown adult birds shouldn’t have a problem drowning. They actually float like a duck and it’s SO HILARIOUS to see!

    It's hard to put them inside when they refuse to go in and sit there and stare st me yet when I try to pick them up boom peck

      Those ungrateful jerks! If possible, try leaving them out next time (with a way to go inside if they choose) and see what happens. ❤️

    Mine go under the back porch. In the covered run is always the last resort.

    Ok... I have a question but it's kind of the opposite reaction.
    I'm in Albuquerque where it does not rain very much. We had a rainstorm this evening and my 2 girls were acting desperate to get out of the coop..
    I got the impression they were freaking out because it was raining in their coop and they thought it might be drier outside of it. They have a house that has a tarp over it, a dry area under a nesting box and a front porch that is dry. I have that surrounded by an area where they can lounge outside of their house all day long chicken hawk free. So I don't understand why they were insistent upon being released into the yard in the rain. Do they like taking water baths? I did not want to let them outside of their run area because it was also raining in the run area and I did not know how they would behave loose in the yard.. Like, would they try to fly over the 8' cement fence? They are silkies so they don't fly very high but I don't want them hurting themselves trying to escape the rain. I've learned that they're not real smart.

      Hi! Ok here is my thought - my guess is the noise from the storm scared them. So they wanted to run away from the scary noise (not realizing they’d be running out into the rain). Since you have silkies I would try to keep them dry as much as possible. Their feathers are not waterproof and they can’t control their own body thermostat so they might get chilled. (If they do get wet you can towel dry, bring them inside, and/or gently dry them with cool air from a hair dryer.) Does that all make sense? ✌🏼❤️🐓

    Hi, Love your Coop, My husband and I are new to this. We have a shady area we going to put them, but I'm still concerned about the heat here in San Antonio, Tx. They are 13 days old today. We have them in our house now until they get a little bigger and we set our coop up. Do you think we should put a fan in the coop to keep the coop cool?

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Ok do a few things as a test if you want. Put a thermometer where the coop will be and watch it to see how bad it gets in the shade. (I have a La Crosse digital weather thing that has a wireless remote for outside, so I know from my kitchen how hot it is in the coop). You can also look into a solar fan - I have a video on my channel in the Coop playlist - or making an AC out of a bucket. I’d be super super careful about using electricity in the coop, and I’d set my “danger parameter” when it gets over 90 degrees in the coop. I hope that makes sense! Email me if I can do more. theMama@realsimplemama.com

    Hi weird random question...is that kid pool for your chickens? And if so, what is it used for ?(: thank you!

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! It’s for the chickens and yes it’s a kiddie pool 😎 it gets well over 100F here and I’ve trained my flock to stand in it - cooling off their feet keeps them from overheating!

      @@realsimplemama are there videos that you recommend on how to train your chickens to do this? This is very smart idea 💡

    How long does a chicken coop like that last?

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you seal it yearly it can last 3y and up. We are in year two and no issues so far!
