I have been reading the instructions to install a new Bosch dishwasher. They mention that you should connect the water line and turn on the water to check for leaks before pushing it back into place. I would also wait a few minutes since the lines would be full of air and the leak wouldn't show up instantly. This was a great video and it explained things I didn't fully understand in the instructions.
very helpful, thanks. I just installed a Bosch 500 series dishwasher, and this was a helpful look ahead. Mine was replacing a Kitchenaid that had a right angle compression to 3/4 hose fitting supply line so I could just use it. Ironic because the dishwasher came with a line and the right angle fitting - maybe they listened to you? the other challenge i had was that the drain hose provided already attached to the dishwasher (nice) was set up to fit over a 1/2" to 3/4" feed into the garbage disposal or drain. My garbage disposal was 7/8" or 1" of course. I ended up getting a soft adapter with hose clamps to the disposal, and cutting 3" long piece of CPVC tubing to join them together. Seems to work, but a good pain to watch out for.
I completely enjoyed your video, especially because I just replaced our 17 year old Bosch with another Bosch a couple of days ago and could empathize with your annoyances. It probably would have been prudent to have have had the Bosch pulled out of its enclosure when you connected the water supply line and turned it on so that you could check for leaks on the dishwasher side and the valve side together. I really loathe plumbing and never assume something is leak proof until I have stared at it for a long moment. Bosch provided a front foot wrench for the unit that made it easy to level it. Our unit also came pre-wired so that all that was necessary was to connect their power cord on one side into the unit and the other into a wall receptacle the same as one would do with a computer. Thanks again for the insights and entertainment.
Appreciated this on two levels: skill and humor. Learned how really different it is to install a Bosch correctly and LMAO when you realized just how different it is and fixed your mistakes. Thanks...enjoyed it and will finish my install tomorrow
Installed mine today, this video saved a TON of misery. The front legs on this thing are a crime against humanity. What I discovered by looking underneath is that a 10mm allen wrench will loosen them easily when you have access from below (my helper tipped it back and held it for me). Looks like whoever assembles this part in the factory drives 'em in good-n-hard with a power driver. I lowered the legs far enough to get an open end wrench on before sliding the dishwasher into the opening. Fortunately there was room under my counter to "pre-lower" the legs. Thanks again. Great video and it saved me lots of grief.
I just bought a Bosch and got ready to install it, only to find out that I needed to buy Powercord with Junction Box accessory. I hunted online for anything to help me understand how I would need to do it. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video!
EDIT: Caught your comment at 17:46 about the "wrestling match" so I wrestled with it, kneaded the end a bit, and was able to get it on. This video was great for my install today. See you again in 21 years (how long the previous Bosch lasted). Trying to get the drain hose onto the garbage disposal is a pain in the butt! Tips, anyone???
This makes me glad I live in the U.K, by law all appliances come with a fitted plug, and we can plug anything into any outlet. There is normally a double socket under the sink, sometimes two, makes installing / replacing / servicing a dishwasher so much easier. Connections have always been at the back here, much easier than fiddling underneath. I prefer to run the drain and water under sink cabinet and up the rear or in the corner of the base as it meant they don't kink or get trapped so easily. Final tip- wind the feet down a little first, and spray the floor with pledge and it will slide back really easily, then just adjust the front slightly as required.
I just installed a high end Bosch dishwasher. Be sure to read the install manual, being very mindful of the dimensions given. If the sink is to the left of the dishwasher the electric cord is very short. I don't know if that electric plug on the dishwasher comes out or not once it snaps in. Pray you never have to remove it for service!
Very nice job Chuck. I was also surprised to see all the connections in the back of the dishwasher. When I recently installed a new LG I moved the power line under the sink and connected it to a GFCI outlet. Wired a power cord onto the dishwasher to plug into the GFCI along with the garbage disposal I also installed. Using a cordless receiver transmitter to turn the disposal on and off. Everything works great no leaks.
I installed one of these for my mom this weekend. Yeah, the instructions said to put the electric box in the adjacent cabinet. I cheated a little, b/c she had a hole in her drywall behind the dishwasher the perfect size to hold the box, so I put it in there. Just like you, I had so much trouble getting the front legs to unscrew that I had to pull the washer back out and get them started. They should put in the instructions to lower them enough to get the 11/16 wrench into them before installing the dishwasher. I really screwed up on not knowing how to raise the back leg before installing. There's a nut in the back you can turn and I thought I had to use that before putting it in. Later on, I tried to adjust it in the front and something broke to where I can't adjust it now. The other thing to watch out for is to not raise the washer up too high if you're using mounting brackets in the front. When the door closes, the panel can be very close to the metal brackets and there's a risk of scratching it. Thanks for making a video. Wish I had seen it before my install.
This is such a great video. Not only did I use it to both install and repair my dishwasher. I watched it once just for the interplay between you two. Very entertaining. Thanks.
Just my observations from a day installing the SHPM88Z75N from Abt. Chicago (where in stock really means that) who shipped it almost free via air in 3 days to OH after I was baited for one month with system rescheduled vaporware deliveries with both HD and Lo's, never again. Now after a week of use I really see why the 800 series are the Teslas of dishwashers. 1. Have someone tilt it backward safely and unscrew front feet by hand until the wrenchable part is visible, it will save you pain later. 2. IMHO junction box should not go behind the dishwasher if your counter depth is 24", but rather take under the sink right above the cabinet hole, read below. Maybe just use the power cord, but I did not want to lose the dedicated breaker. 3. If you have to drill holes for drain, inlet, and power make it as close to ground as possible, this will keep the inlet and drain pipes flush with the recessed slanted space under the back end, especially in a sink-to-the-right install. Drain has to have a very high point above the garbage disposal or it will backflow into machine, I used the plastic holder, it also secures the extra two loops on my 8' inlet hose. Sink the rubber end of the drain in hot water for five minutes, it will make sliding it onto the sink/disposal connector a breeze. 4. When pushing back make sure you keep machine flush with the side away from sink, that way you get 1/2" so you can shine light and inspect for kinks, move machine 2", then pull hoses, repeat until done, then you can center machine. I had a kinked drain. Kudos to you and your wife for making this not only educational but also fun. It is thanks to you that this pen pusher installed his first dishwasher. PS: What drain pipes are you using under sink? They look WW3 proof.
I just purchased the 100 series, looks like yours was the 800 series. Beautiful home by the way, my helper doesn’t know what a box wrench is. Thanks for the video, I like the fernie pad on the counter top, don’t know why that never occurred to me.
Chuck, good video. As a retired electrician, I really appreciated your check to make sure the power was off. Get yourself a non-contact voltage tester (about the size of a fat sharpie pen). They're much easier to use for safety checks than a VOM.
Chuck, I have done alot of maintenance on Bosch Dishwashers in my field as a Handyman but never installed one. Everything I fix at home is free but is also a pleasure for my home and especially for my Wife. We all know that the Wife comes first. Your awesome. Awesome channel.
I wish I would have seen this about 12 hours ago lol. I replaced a bosch with a bosch and thought it would be a simple in and out.... WRONG! those connections in the back. The old one was hardwired but this one came with a plug didn't know that. Had to head back to the store the next day to buy the junction box because of the "plug" part. had to make the holes in the cabinets bigger for the drain line. Why why why is the hot water connection in the back. keep it in the front in order to detect leaks easier. That all said Bosch are amazing and out of this world quiet. I did really appreciate the way that the back feet/foot were adjusted by the set screw in the front.
I have same cat but mine has darker face and ears. Just spent $415.00 on her to clean teeth and pull 2 that didn't have any enamel left. She had been sick for awhile on and off. So the week before she had $150.00 work done on skin and ear infections. She lost her black mask and ear hair. Coming back now. Doing good now and won't leave me alone. I think she knows I made her feel better. Since kids all gone I didn't replace dish washer after it went bad. Just the 2 of us now so we just sink wash. Thanks for video Chuck!
"Oh.. I forgot to do the electric." I lol'd. Instant like. Something I woulda' done. We're preparing our old-house-no-dishwasher-connects for a Bosch soon. Excited!
Excellent video and installation. Be sure to read the manual for Bosch cause their installation instructions are not typical. I hear a lot of complaints of Bosch dishwashers not drying dishes. If you have experienced that problem I recommend that you buy an American dishwasher (GE, Whirlpool, Maytag) or one that has heated dry/heating coil at the bottom. A lot of import brand dishwashers (Bosch, Samsung, LG) are more energy efficient and dont offer heated dry options. I have a Bosch dishwasher, similar to the one in this video, and I love it! Doesnt dry perfectly but its a great quality machine.
Bosch recommends the SANITIZE setting to dry the dishes faster. I quit using the DRY cycle on my old Maytag at my old house after seeing water vapor shooting out the the vents. Just open the door a bit after the wash and the dishes will dry in no time.
The new Bosch dishwashers with Crystal Dry feature uses a volcanic rock (zeolite) to heat the inside to 176 degrees and drys even plastic dishes like a champ!
I'll be installing a Bosch this Saturday, in North Jersey, where we eat Taylor Ham. Replacing a 30 year old Maytag. I do really appreciate the heads-up on the issues you inadvertently discovered and I get a preview of what this thing looks like. Thank you. BTW, Marcia's cute and smart!
You're lucky you have your sink next to the dishwasher, I have lazy suzan on one side and refrigerator on the other side. I am a plumber also and will figure it out. Thanks for the video.
low voltage on the line after the breaker is off is probably due to the inaccuracy of your voltage meter. digital meters tend to pick up phantom voltage rather easily due to the way they detect voltage. nothing to be concerned about unless a high end fluke meter picks up more than a couple of volts
Great video, thanks. Took all anxiety about installing my first dishwasher. A couple of things to note that may help others. My Bosch 300 series came with a power cord. The store also included the junction box with power cord no charge. If the store tries to charge you for the junction box, you can skip it and install your own standard box with 115V grounded plug under your sink. I can't guarantee this would be to code in all localities, but it does seem a safe option to me. Second I purchased a dishwasher install kit. All I needed out of that kit was the 6 foot braided water hose and the 90 deg hose to compression fitting connector. I could have saved a few bucks on that stuff. Just for fun, the leftover unused parts I have are two power cords, a 90 deg pipe thread to compression fitting connector, 3/8 NM cable strain relief, three yellow wire nuts, and some teflon tape. More for the spare parts collection that I really don't need! :)
U.K. Dishwashers & washing machines are all connected at the back , the waste & water are normally run with in the 150mm (6") plinth space behind so when you push it back it doesn't foul it from going right back in . The electrics are always fitted inside the kitchen unit so you don't have to pull the machine out to remove it. Fully integrated appliances are a pain as they take forever to fit the door front on them. Also with granite work tops the top bracket on the machine can't be screwed to it for obvious reasons so you normally silicone it. The waste hose is normally fished under the unit & then up into the cabinet & taken above the flood level of the sink to stop water re entering the appliance . I have a slimline Bosch in my house awesome product & my washing machine. British & europen appliances are totally different than USA models . You mostly have free standing appliances so they are so much easier to fit . Remember we have washing machines in our kitchens whereas you have them in your basement , you lucky people 😂
Actually the junction box, according to 2021 series 500, says it should be mounted in the adjacent cabinets, not under or behind dishwasher. And if you have a plug under your sink, save your money and use the free cord that comes with the dishwasher and skip the junction box altogether.
If you already have house wiring in the back of the DW opening, you can install a box low enough that it won't interfere. That's a lot easier than having to install a whole new outlet under your sink. Just do a quick test fit with the box where you think it will work to be sure.
The junction box Boch supplied for hardwiring your dishwasher is supposed to be installed against an adjacent cabinet (ie under the sink) which really sucks when you have your wiring coming in behind the dishwasher. There is not enough space behind the dishwasher to mount the junction box against the wall, even down by the floor. trust me. So i had to feed a flex whip from behind the dishwasher into the sink cabinet into the junctio nbox, then run the cord back to the dishwasher.
Thank you for the video. I was about to screw holes through the sides of the dishwasher. I did not understand the manual. In terms of the brackets. Very helpful.
Installed one of these today. The one I put in didn’t come with a cord and junction box. Just a cord and plug. So I had to cut out drywall and install an old work junction box and install outlet behind dishwasher. I was surprised that water connection was in the back, but had a long enough braided hose to make it work. Like you, I also fought those damn adjustable front legs and also chewed them up a bit. In the end, I got it done. Happy customer, now on to the next job!
I haven't bought this machine, but I image that the adjustable legs would unscrew more easily if you loosen up the setscrew. That screw is facing rearward, inside the hole seen immediately above the leg. Then when the legs are adjusted to taste, tighten up the setscrew to secure your adjustment. Btw, I'm no plumbing expert, I just saw this mentioned in another video. Hope that helps.
in your bag of goodies there are brackets, depending on the model you may need them or you may not, but you have convinced me to make how to install bosch dishwasher in under an hour video. prepare to have your socks blown off
the beauty of vids. No wasted time for the viewer. ha. Took me a few hours with my wifey micro managing every step and I even offered her the lead role in installation. She passed on it. lol.
Helped my daughter install one last weekend. Bought them dinner for the opportunity to help. Seems backward to me. Do you have a video showing the install in an island?
@9:22 NOooooo ... Don't cut the wire! (You had you plumber hat on and needed an electrician hat for a couple minutes.) Just stuff the extra back down the hole, or reroute it out of the way. If the decision is to cut it shorter, make sure the line can reach up into the sink cabinet with enough to work with for a regular junction box in case the next DW is a traditional hookup, and can be either plugged in or hardwire with a piece of MC for a whip.
Don’t mind installing dishwashers, if being replaced..... Doing a new install on house that doesn’t have one....Well, usually get those lovely surprises when work starts😉
I appreciate your sharing your expertise. You had to add the hass!e of making a video to the free work on a Saturday. Now who is going to clean the underside of the farmhouse sink where it curse and hits the cabinet door?
Oh no my brother! What you should have done is ran that romex wire into the sink cabinet & made your connection there and run the feed cord back to the dishwasher. That way you can easily get to the junction box. Typically we put in a outlet & install a cord on the machine.
Back connections scare me....just did a samsung yesterday.... I like to check the water before I push it in......not really a fan of the new design... You didn't show it but did you push the electric under the sink kick space? That's where I was looking to put it..
Working on installing a Bosch dishwasher now. The people who built my house did such a lazy job that it's making the install job harder. If the washer ever has to come out, it will probably be in pieces.
Thank you for the video. Question- where did you move the junction box to...did you put it in the next cabinet under the sink or does it fit under the dishwasher? Thanks!
Mistake #1A: Instructions DO NOT say to put the junction box UNDER the cabinet. It needs to be mounted IN the sink cabinet. The box needs to be accessible according to NEC. Good luck accessing it where you put it.
@@ChuckBarron I sincerely appreciate your sense of humor. Do you have any idea why Bosch does it this way with the separate junction box? Any idea why they didn't leave the connections in the front?
Perfect.. My new Bosch dishwasher is coming next week... it sure is a different install from all the other dishwashers I have had.. great seeing this video so I know what to expect. I might have to cut a bigger hole in my cabinet to pass that electrical connection through....but knowing this ahead of time is great... would not have liked finding it out when trying to install it... Now I know what I need to do and can prepare my connections this weekend and be ready to just pop the new machine into place when it gets here. Thanks.
@@ChuckBarron Just touching back.... the install went pretty well.. Watching the video helped a lot :-) I had to cut a slightly larger hole in my cabinet to pass the electric plug through and I was able to mount the electrical box in the cabinet under my sink.. so far I am happy with this dishwasher... I didn't notice until I had it all installed that there was a slight dent in the front panel.. I don't want to have to re-install a replacement unit but my retailer refunded me 10 percent of the cost.. nice pay back for a hardly noticeable dent.
Kitty in there ... as they always want to know what's going on ... needs a tool belt. I should check the kick plate on my dishwasher to see if I missed something. Thanks for showing the hiccups and the good stuff too. CB1 rules ! Oh, and Marcie too of course !
Some installers do not connect the dishwasher to a hot water line because it makes it's own hot water. This is supposed to be Energy Star Compliant. My dishwasher is connected to the cold water line. Does this make a difference other than saving on electricity for the hot water not being used? Cold water line, vs hot water line, is the hot water line needed?
Joey Barrelwilde in Europe dishwashers are always cold fill only. It is proven to be much more economical. Total energy use for a standard cycle including heating the water is typically around 1kwh. It eliminates having hot water standing in pipes all the way from your water heater. It means rinses can be cold when it's pointless having a hot rinse. The only time you might consider connecting it to hot water instead is if you have fully solar hot water, in which case the overall efficiency can be improved slightly by using hot water.
You extend the wash time waiting to heat cold water from scratch. I disagree with Spenser's theory. Your water heater already has hot water sitting idle most of the time, losing heat as it sits. Better to use it when needed than having it waste energy cooling off in the tank.
Thanks for the great video........ I'm getting ready to replace my older Maytag with a Bosch 500 shpm65w56n. I have a question; Couldn't you just eliminate the junction box and wire it to a plug w/ ground? I wired an in-wall receptacle for my current dishwasher right behind it. Thanks again for your video.
@@johningram6264 the electrical box adapter is $30. Grounded plug is $5 and takes up a lot less space.plug is designed for 15 amp so should handle the load. May want to make sure it is not laying on the floor in case there's a leak.
How did you get the wire under the sink? Doing the same thing at our house and the wire comes directly out from behind the dishwasher as all of the older models hard wired right into the unit. Now I need to get the wire over and under the sink.
best way is to install receptacle in kitchen cabinet. My sink was actually hollow on side to my surprise. If not i would of had to put receptacle in sink too.
Electric code requires 6 inches of wire in the box at 10:00. If you had the 6 inches, you wouldn't need a needle nose pliers to connect the wires. Just a loop, and right in. Easy peasy. Mount that box RIGHT at the floor and 9 inches on center from the right hand side to avoid having it interfering with the machine being pushed under the cabinets. Once you do a few of these, you'll know that it is a LOT easier than the front connections!
Liked your video ! Sooo cool… Is it possible to turn the water on BEFORE inserting the machine back? So you can verify leakages on the dishwasher machine :) before installing back.
Great Video! You said you had 2" of clearance but then had to move the (junction) box inside the cabinet....does that mean under the sink area? I couldn't see it when you were tightening the drain line. Anyway my 10 yr old Bosch died. Unfortunately my wife wants another and this gives great insight for the install!
TBH, I how they blended in the old one. I thought you were doing a fresh install, then you opened the old one, and i was like, holy crap, there's already one there, lol.
I just installed it...of course without reading the instructions!☝️ I used the old hole but Bosch wants drain hose to be off the ground. i need to fix that tomorrow. Always first job takes an hour, by the time you figure out it's actually a 10minute installation its too late. Then you never do the same type of job again...
I haven't watch the rest of the video yet but looking for the way you mount it. I usually side mount the ones I install when you have granite or quartz countertops. This is also my first Bosch dishwasher that has the water in the back and the electric as well pretty simple. But do you pre-drill the membrane when side mounting? Hopefully I will find out towards the end of the video
@@ChuckBarron yeah I know sad brackets. But the ones I usually side mount have a plastic plug on each side that is i replaceable after you put the screws through the hole that is approximately 3/8 of an inch in diameter. The Bosch dishwasher that I will be installing and have partially installed does not have the plastic plugs but a membrane of sorts. I'll try to send a picture somehow when I get back to that job. Waiting on an end panel from the cabinet company. The first one came in the wrong color. I work for a kitchen and bath Remodeling Company that has been in business since 1959. We do everything from the demolition,Electric, Plumbing, sheetrock and or plaster repair, cabinet installation, and All trim work, ceramic tile, Schluter waterproofing systems for bathrooms excetera excetera. My point being, I know some things but I don't know everything. But I am willing to learn everyday
So to keep the dishwasher from tipping forward when the door is open and the trays are out with dishes on them, you screwed through that rubber seal on the sides? Normally dishwashers have tabs at the top to secure them to the underside of the counter top but I'm not seeing any tabs on this bosch.
I am installing a new Bosch right now. You put the mounts on the sides, and the rubber thing that goes all the way around outside the door has a little hole already made in it, to put the screw through. So you don't actually penetrate the rubber thing.
How long after you shut the door will the water start? I just installed my Bosch today and after about 2/3 mins I still don’t have water. I checked all connections and made sure water was on. Pump seems to be working. Any suggestions?
Very informative , in case I run into a Bausch. Sometimes going in uncharted waters , makes a plumber look like an idiot. If the home owner is watching.
Love watching a plumber try to figure out electrical.
Quick tip, before installing I took the legs off and greased them. They adjust the height like butter now and keep the setting!
Great tip!
Wish I thought of that. Took me a hour or so to lvl it fighting with it

They both in.....gonna be good.
I just purchased the 100 series, looks like yours was the 800 series. Beautiful home by the way, my helper doesn’t know what a box wrench is. Thanks for the video, I like the fernie pad on the counter top, don’t know why that never occurred to me.
I installed one if those fir the 1st time, last yr. It was a granite counter top so it had to be screwed in on the sides. Took me forever.
a mind melt.
Chuck, good video. As a retired electrician, I really appreciated your check to make sure the power was off. Get yourself a non-contact voltage tester (about the size of a fat sharpie pen). They're much easier to use for safety checks than a VOM.
Thanks Dave.
Chuck - this was an awesome how to video… Thanks for helping us DYI-ers!
Glad it was helpful! Boss was all over me....lol
Nice work! Installing the same model now; those feet are a major PITA, dig the adjustment for the back one, though
The Mrs. said " Don't Barron Anything" lol That was a good one.
Who mE??? lol thats her fav. line.
Chuck, I have done alot of maintenance on Bosch Dishwashers in my field as a Handyman but never installed one. Everything I fix at home is free but is also a pleasure for my home and especially for my Wife. We all know that the Wife comes first. Your awesome. Awesome channel.
thanks harry.
The front legs/feet were a huge pain though
I have same cat but mine has darker face and ears. Just spent $415.00 on her to clean teeth and pull 2 that didn't have any enamel left. She had been sick for awhile on and off. So the week before she had $150.00 work done on skin and ear infections. She lost her black mask and ear hair. Coming back now. Doing good now and won't leave me alone. I think she knows I made her feel better. Since kids all gone I didn't replace dish washer after it went bad. Just the 2 of us now so we just sink wash. Thanks for video Chuck!
awesome...good daddy to kitty. I have two kitties and one is describe just like yours. she is camera shy though.
"Oh.. I forgot to do the electric." I lol'd. Instant like. Something I woulda' done.
We're preparing our old-house-no-dishwasher-connects for a Bosch soon. Excited!
I wish I had found this video first. Found the day after I had installed . I never did catch your model number? Mine was the 500.
Thanks for the “mistake” on the junction box placement so I didn’t do that too. Great video.
Glad it was helpful!
James, Marcia already complained about that. I will pass this on to her. Thank you.
I can install a water heater in shorter time than a dishwasher, what a pain, especially when there is a cabinet in between. Nice vid brother!
I feel the same. Thanks K and B
Nice work chuck
I just put one in today
800 series
Best dishwasher you can buy
I'll be installing a Bosch this Saturday, in North Jersey, where we eat Taylor Ham. Replacing a 30 year old Maytag. I do really appreciate the heads-up on the issues you inadvertently discovered and I get a preview of what this thing looks like. Thank you. BTW, Marcia's cute and smart!
Good luck. Get er done plumber.
Thanks FD. Appreciate that tip.
I thought the cat was going to be a live voltage tester @ 6:10. Thanks for posting. Great video!
Thanks for the video and thanks for showing the mistakes. I’m gonna install one of these in my house this week and this info will be invaluable! 👍🏼
Glad it was helpful!
ya they tuff.
Remember we have washing machines in our kitchens whereas you have them in your basement , you lucky people 😂
lol....good stuff rich. happy wife happy life.
Actually the junction box, according to 2021 series 500, says it should be mounted in the adjacent cabinets, not under or behind dishwasher.
And if you have a plug under your sink, save your money and use the free cord that comes with the dishwasher and skip the junction box altogether.
for sure. made it happen. Luckily my sink base was open for this move.
If you already have house wiring in the back of the DW opening, you can install a box low enough that it won't interfere. That's a lot easier than having to install a whole new outlet under your sink. Just do a quick test fit with the box where you think it will work to be sure.
Thanks for the video. Just bought this model. So funny how the wife is always right!!
of course.
I learned the hard way for sure. sad part is i measured too and thought i had room.....NOT! wifey was on it.....lol
Torture! Thanks!
Thank you for the video. I was about to screw holes through the sides of the dishwasher. I did not understand the manual. In terms of the brackets. Very helpful.
Good work. Installing mine tomorrow.
Did it work?
Im gonna install the same dishwasher Thursday for my husband. Thank you for sharing The gotchas. Hopefully I don’t find any new ones! LOL
good luck.
Fire, that was my first and last thus far..plumbing lessons nver stop.
I had to buy the junction box separately. Bosch offers various “kits”, I imagine, to improve the adaptability of their appliances.
She passed on it. lol.
CB-1 and Marcy great job the dishwasher looks great in your kitchen 👍. Peace brother and sister
Thanks M
Helped my daughter install one last weekend. Bought them dinner for the opportunity to help. Seems backward to me. Do you have a video showing the install in an island?
not as of yet on island install. that be a good one.
not a plumber but I eat dishwashers for lunch, i put 3 of those in today along with the panel ready
Thats a good days work right there.
Hi Chuck, thanks for the video, I'm glad to be learning right along with your apprentices!
Thank you very much for these instructions. I’m in the process of installing this model today and your instructions were 10 times better than Bosch‘s.
How do you know the water line fitting is not leaking at the dishwasher? Would have been a good idea to test it before sliding it in.
Great job! Installing mine on Friday. Thanks
did mine myself too - because I fear all the things boss lady mentioned... did she say to clean up the mouse turds under the cabinetry ?
@9:22 NOooooo ... Don't cut the wire! (You had you plumber hat on and needed an electrician hat for a couple minutes.)
Just stuff the extra back down the hole, or reroute it out of the way. If the decision is to cut it shorter, make sure the line can reach up into the sink cabinet with enough to work with for a regular junction box in case the next DW is a traditional hookup, and can be either plugged in or hardwire with a piece of MC for a whip.
Dwight I remember cutting that. I was like dude you better not of cut that short.....lol
Don’t mind installing dishwashers, if being replaced..... Doing a new install on house that doesn’t have one....Well, usually get those lovely surprises when work starts😉
surprise surprise..especially on a friday
I appreciate your sharing your expertise. You had to add the hass!e of making a video to the free work on a Saturday. Now who is going to clean the underside of the farmhouse sink where it curse and hits the cabinet door?
me of course...lol
get an air shim for those front legs plus spin them free before you shove it in but really the air shim is a life saver on bosch
air shim. Im gonna have to look that up.
Bosch requires a cold line connection or it voids the warranty, right?
not sure.
BTW, take off the front panel and there is a place for an Allen key. It will raise or lower all the feet at once.
yes. found it.
The junction boxes are available at Lowe’s for 20 $ . I had to get one for my dishwasher.
nice tip
Oh no my brother! What you should have done is ran that romex wire into the sink cabinet & made your connection there and run the feed cord back to the dishwasher. That way you can easily get to the junction box. Typically we put in a outlet & install a cord on the machine.
Next time! learn from my mistakes for sure.
Knew to avoid 1 mistake made, curious why a masonary bit was in the hole drill for particle board, greeat learning video though
Back connections scare me....just did a samsung yesterday.... I like to check the water before I push it in......not really a fan of the new design... You didn't show it but did you push the electric under the sink kick space? That's where I was looking to put it..
Ya at this point I was like dam thank god the sink base had a hollow bottom. I just took it off wall and pushed box under sink.
Working on installing a Bosch dishwasher now. The people who built my house did such a lazy job that it's making the install job harder. If the washer ever has to come out, it will probably be in pieces.
Good luck
Thank you for the video. Question- where did you move the junction box to...did you put it in the next cabinet under the sink or does it fit under the dishwasher? Thanks!
Yes and yes. I slid under my cabinet. it happen to be open side underneath.
Mistake #1A: Instructions DO NOT say to put the junction box UNDER the cabinet. It needs to be mounted IN the sink cabinet. The box needs to be accessible according to NEC. Good luck accessing it where you put it.
I will access it on next dishwasher install in 15 years hopefully. But thank you.
@@ChuckBarron I sincerely appreciate your sense of humor. Do you have any idea why Bosch does it this way with the separate junction box? Any idea why they didn't leave the connections in the front?
@@ChuckBarron Let's hope you'll never need a service call!
A hard-wired install is not "accessible" either. Unless you are getting an NEC inspection, there is no safety or convenience problem.
@@FisherCatProductions In older dishwashers the connection was accessible when the junction was at the front of the machine.
What brand would you recommend for a dish washer? Mine just crapped out this week.
Learned more from the mistakes!! Thanks for showing
You bet!
At 14:35 Marci says "push in a little more". Nuff said 😂
Go Marcie Go.
Thanks.
ya some good pointers from viewers here...check em out.
Chuck were did you end up putting the junction box? You said under the cabinet.
Kitty in there ... as they always want to know what's going on ... needs a tool belt.
I should check the kick plate on my dishwasher to see if I missed something. Thanks for showing the hiccups and the good stuff too. CB1 rules ! Oh, and Marcie too of course !
Ya the instruction booklet. why read that. lol.
gotta do it for the boss ladies in our lives CB, good job sir
Got er done! Thanks A
Some installers do not connect the dishwasher to a hot water line because it makes it's own hot water. This is supposed to be Energy Star Compliant. My dishwasher is connected to the cold water line. Does this make a difference other than saving on electricity for the hot water not being used? Cold water line, vs hot water line, is the hot water line needed?
good question.
@@ChuckBarron My dishwasher is connected to the cold water line, as is other people I know there's is on the cold water line also.
That's what I was thinking about. In America, they are connected to the hot water line for high heat wash.
You extend the wash time waiting to heat cold water from scratch. I disagree with Spenser's theory. Your water heater already has hot water sitting idle most of the time, losing heat as it sits. Better to use it when needed than having it waste energy cooling off in the tank.
Nice install! My last one all connections were routed to crawlspace, kinda sucked. Gotta love it!
a real surprise when you never put one in. Nice job Matt.
Thanks again for your video.
im sure. so many ways to set it up.
Bosch makes a plug adapter you can buy just for your application
@@ChuckBarron what do you mean hollow? You have the same kind of divider wall I do, the one you passed the return and water lines into.
Does the dishwasher mount flush to cabinets?
We have a pro installer in da house.. I will tag him. This is the only bosch i did. It was my house too. I will tag him for you.

I love do plumbing but I hate installing dishwashers
you and me both...
Once you do a few of these, you'll know that it is a LOT easier than the front connections!
good tip John. Ty
Guest what I'm doing with my Sheila on Saturday ? Awesome video! Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Enjoy the Day
Have fun! Sheila be nice....ha
Liked your video ! Sooo cool… Is it possible to turn the water on BEFORE inserting the machine back? So you can verify leakages on the dishwasher machine :) before installing back.
This is a perfect video with Instructions for people like me who do not read them. Can I borrow Marcy as she is a very good assistant?
Cool cat. I hate doing DWs. Nice helper/boss.
da boss
Great Video! You said you had 2" of clearance but then had to move the (junction) box inside the cabinet....does that mean under the sink area? I couldn't see it when you were tightening the drain line. Anyway my 10 yr old Bosch died. Unfortunately my wife wants another and this gives great insight for the install!
Yes put in cabinet. good luck Me
TBH, I how they blended in the old one. I thought you were doing a fresh install, then you opened the old one, and i was like, holy crap, there's already one there, lol.
not sure what you mean....
@@ChuckBarron O, the fascia(for lack of a better word) that was put on the old dishwasher. I couldn't tell it apart from the rest of the cabinets.
How do you know the washing is finished or at runtime since theres no panel or led at the front? The dish washer is BADLY MOUNTED, in my opinion.
Green light means done. Mount is what paper work calls for...I have seen some nice grid still mesh under stone tops. I do like that.
How’s do you like the dishwasher after 1 year of owning? What Bosch series is it?
a dream.
@@ChuckBarron what model? 500 or 800?
Hopefully I will find out towards the end of the video
side mount brackets Greg
No through rubber. through side brackets. rubber goes on after.
I am installing a new Bosch right now. You put the mounts on the sides, and the rubber thing that goes all the way around outside the door has a little hole already made in it, to put the screw through. So you don't actually penetrate the rubber thing.
The rubber side seal won't hold for mounting... it should have bracket mounts... bad job securing....Will be loose soon... SMH
Great job CB and I like that kitty cat
thanks Luciano, Monroe the kitty runs the show.
How long after you shut the door will the water start? I just installed my Bosch today and after about 2/3 mins I still don’t have water. I checked all connections and made sure water was on. Pump seems to be working. Any suggestions?
really good. y ou need dahl valves for the shutoffs. they rock.
I will check em out. thanks Dave.
Very informative , in case I run into a Bausch. Sometimes going in uncharted waters , makes a plumber look like an idiot. If the home owner is watching.
ya going with the as usual was the wrong way to go about it...read the paper work for sure. Happy Saturday Floyd
A Fernco connection under the kitchen sink 🤦🏻♂️. Does Jersey have any plumbing codes?
New Jersey and you perfect together. That use to be a commercial ran all day long....lol
That's why the trap on the other side goes up too high. To siphon the water out of the Fernco. 🤣
This was so helpful! Thank you for making this video.
Marcie is amazing! Looks like she's the brain behind the operation :)
She runs the show. Ha.
