    This might have been the first moment where we saw just how _special_ The Rehearsal was going to be... Nathan rehearsing himself in a fake version of Kor's flat was fun, the fake bar was really impressive, the actress stalking and impersonating Kor's teammate was whacky, and taking Kor for a walk to learn the quiz answers ("It's on days like this I curse the Chinese for inventing gunpowder") was hilarious, but this scene was the first time we caught a glimpse of how Nathan was going to twist the concept of the show to go somewhere else entirely... fantastic.

      Yes. It calls back to when Nathan says that the one thing that Rehearsals cannot prepare for is emotion in the real moment, and both Kor and Nathan demonstrate it in this episode. “Nathan”’s (bc Fielder is obviously playing a character in all these episodes) anxiety gets the better of him and he ends up breaking from the Rehearsal which is the exact thing he criticized Kor for doing.

  • @albertwang9756
    @albertwang9756 2 ปีที่แล้ว +382

    I think the sad part about this is I have been through this scenario. I lied to a good friend about something because I thought she wouldn't want to hear the truth. Just assumed to myself that hiding the truth would lead to a better outcome. In reality, she found out through my friends and expressed her frustration that I lied to her and she doesn't know if I would lie to her again or not.
    In my head I thought it would be good, but I didn't consider her respect in the equation. I was overthinking too much and let myself feel shameful at the end of it. I picked this show up by accident because I watched the trailer and liked Nathan for you. Didn't know it will end up having me self-reflect on my actions alot.
    I think the quote that hits home the most was in episode 4.
    "It’s easy to assume that others think the worst of you. But when you assume what others think,
    maybe all you’re doing is turning them into a character that only exists in your mind."
    "The nice thing, is that sometimes all it takes is a change in perspective to make the world feel brand-new."

    There's a moment in a lot of media / stories I watch, where it feels like there was an original point of inception... like, the whole purpose of the idea, or the concept, was to get to a specific moment, and everything before it was meant to build up and approach that, until it finally gets to it. That's what this is to me for The Rehearsal. There's so much that this moment says about Nathan's character in this, that makes you unnerved and creeped out, but also understanding and empathetic to him. Wanting guaranteed happiness for everyone. Doing what he can to control every aspect to ensure happiness isn't left to chance. But running up against the fact that their inauthenticity strips these moments of meaning. This single moment provokes more thought about the concepts of fate, free will, and happiness then a lot of things. We want things to go our way always, but we don't want them to be handed to us.
    And in the end, this Nathan has to just swallow this guilt. He has to keep it inside.

The genius is how spot on actor Kor monologues was, then you see real Kor having that same monologue in his head but choses to restrain himself and not say anything. Strange that real Kor looks upset even though the edit we're presented with shows Nathan never told him the truth. I think real Kor may have figured it out when Nathan launched into his aborted confession immediately after Kor announced his trivia win.

    I think what's really interesting in this scene is that I reckon Kor's bullshit meter is strong enough to tell that Nathan isn't giving him the whole truth. Would Kor's reaction have been that bad if he confessed? Maybe, but Kor also had his own nightmare version of how his confession would go down that was drastically different from reality. But that's the genius of the fake reactions, because on some level, we actually want to be told that we're as bad as we think we are, it's validating to experience that.

    Okay so a lot of people say that Nathan never told Kor because it cuts from fake Kor to Nathan giving a compliment and then real Kor responding but we literally saw the same exact same cut at the beginning of this episode when Nathan explains the rehearsal concept to fake Kor and then real Kor.
    In my opinion Nathan left it deliberately ambiguous whether he was consoling Kor for what he did to him or bailing on telling him at all.
    If you cut straight from Kor saying the victory was the cherry on top to Nathan complimenting him there is a distinct change in demeanor from Kor and I'm not sure if that's just editing and picking specific moments from a long conversation to create a narrative or genuine apprehension from Kor after being told it was all rigged from the start

    • @FistfulOfGabagool
      @FistfulOfGabagool ปีที่แล้ว +7

      No, Nathan said "there's something I need to come clean about" which is why you see the real Kor's reaction where he gets serious in anticipation.. After that Nathan pauses for a long time (just like Kor did at the bar) contemplating whether or not to confess. That's when they flash back to the rehearsed confession and then back to the real scene again where he finally "confesses" that he thinks he's a great person. The editing is seamless for comedic effect but it's pretty clear that he didn't confess. Half of the joke is that he couldn't do himself what he is coaching Kor to do.
