- In the second game of the 1993 season, Penn State welcomed powerhouse USC from the west coast in a hard fought battle between two of the top programs in the country. Each team's offensive strengths were polar opposite; Penn State employed a three tailback system to churn out a bunch of ground yards while struggling mightily in the passing game. Meanwhile, the Trojans found little to no success in the running game, yet staged a fourth quarter, heart-stopping comeback attempt on the arm of it's star quarterback, Rob Johnson.
PENN STATE TOP PERFORMERS:
Mike Archie; 10 carries, 106 yards
Ki-Jana Carter; 20 carries, 104 yards
Brian O'Neill; 2 rushing touchdowns
The Nittany Lions moved onto a 2-0 record with the narrow win over USC. The Trojans slipped to 0-2, but would finish the 1993 season with an 8-5 record and a share of the Pac-10 title.
