Always good to watch your videos due to your concise summaries in terms of planning and execution. It allows you to know when and where to achieve a "position of dominance" based on fire superiority and freedom of maneuver.
Thank you for approaching this subject with the due respect that it deserves. Although some may say it's a bit insensitive, I disagree. I always wanted to know how a modern battle force vs modern battle force would play out, and info from the actual war is very sparse and incomplete as far as military tactics go (as it should for opsec). Small thing to me, but maybe larger for others? But the "Kiev" pronunciations is the russian version of the naming. I got confused on the news when I heard "Keeeve" and saw it written as Kyiv so I looked it up. I guess Ukraine changed it in 2018. It is produced "Key-ve," as opposed to "key-ev" From the wiki: "KyivNotKiev is an online campaign started by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) together with the 15 member centre for strategic communications "StratCom Ukraine" on 2 October 2018. Its goal is to persuade English-language media and organisations to exclusively use Kyiv (derived from the Ukrainian language name Київ) instead of Kiev (derived from the Russian language name Киев) as the name of the Ukrainian capital."
It's a WWII Company level game, but if you prefer a more modern game, it is very easily adapted. Normally you have several squads in a platoon, and several platoons to a company, as well as HQ staff and weapons teams. In a modern game, you can use: (Two fireteams and a SL) x3 Two MG teams, one AT team and a SL A Platoon Leader and a Sergeant A Medic And a(n?) RTO or forward observer Look who I'm telling though... Anyway, it's a great game. If you can convince a friend to spend a couple hours playing a tactical board game, I highly recommend. If you don't care about the era it's definitely easier to get cheap models and supplies for WWII stuff.
Huh. Interestingly, the maps in the game are modeled after real places. A few days ago I saw a comparison between this map and a place where Ukrainian infantry set up an ambush on a Russian convoy. Even the location of the gas station matched...
You realize this game was created way before the Russian - Ukrainian conflict right. That being said some maps have been created via a 1-1 scale for historical effect.
ya bro i get this was hard to play given current times. but it's weird how this game was developed b4 the protests and civil war and how they actually had to take out a separatist faction is what i heard because of how close to reality it was.
I noticed your vehicles were deployed in the oringal facing they were loaded in, you might have fixed this in the part you skip in the edit but you can press G to face a unit into any direction. great video!

I think you have the best approach concerning what's going on in Ukraine to give donations directly to UNICEF. I've seen others give "humanitarian aid" to the Ukrainian Army and I've found that out of place.
@@ControlledPairsGaming If you wanted to you could edit the scenarios and change the terrain conditions to muddy forcing you to stay on hard ground unless you want your vehicles to get bogged. CM is very customizable like that.
Interesting, informative content as always and well handled to address the very real conflict and the human suffering it is and will continue to cause. It's a shame the video cannot remain monetized with all revenue going to charity, but imagine there are at least a couple accounting hurdles to make that work.
CP, thanks for what you're doing to raise awareness and help support the Ukrainian people. It's horrible what the Ukraines are going through as well as the average Russian soldier who is just following orders and trying to stay alive. So sad. And now, some good old fashioned CM tips! :) At th-cam.com/video/Z_gU1i47oGo/w-d-xo.html your ATGM has a normal Target Arc. I assume you probably wanted them to have a Target Armor Arc (purple arc) so that they don't waste a missile at infantry. At th-cam.com/video/Z_gU1i47oGo/w-d-xo.html your infantry are walking upgright into a combat situation with the standard Move order. I'm guessing that you're probably doing this to conserve stamina. I think a better approach is to use either Hunt (with Hunt they'll crouch and be a little more responsive, going to to ground immediately if threatened) or my favorite when moving to contact over a long distance is with the Quick command (or rather multiple Quick commands interspersed with 10 to 15 second pauses). That allows them to move quickly so they're harder to hit if targeted--but they'll still respond if shot at--and at the pause order they'll take a knee and rest will also be able to get a lookaround and engage threats. You can effectively bound elements forward this way. Great job CP! I love how you explain solid battlefield tactics and your CM vids are my favorites. Keep it up.
If it's realistic no one will want to play the russians as their body armor and explosive tank armor are filled with cardboard! LOL!!!! But if we do get to play the russian side do we get to kill women and kids for bonus points? Oh and russian command won't supply us us for a month???? LOL!!!! Can't wait to put on some cardboard body armor! yeah i'm so tuff i don't need real body armor! LOL!!! JK This looks really good though! I can't believe this was made before the war how eerie!!!
Keep it up.. Curious when your going to do a PBEM against a human opponent who knows what they are doing... That would be an interesting match... The AI is nothing compared to a skilled enemy commander...

@@ControlledPairsGaming flames of war is good scenario based ww2 one that I would recommend. Its on the division scale I'd say. And the other I'd recommend for smaller unit tactics of maybe a company size at its largest is bolt action.
Also if you get into making terrain yourself for the battle maps you could have some amazingly detailed and cinematic shots. . . The only downside is it can eventually cost a lot of money especially if you buy the figures pre painted. I'd recommend painting them yourself it can be really relaxing. The most fun I had was painting an easy 8 for bolt action and creating mud to put on the tracks using coffee grinds and white glue.
@@ControlledPairsGaming Hey...! I was just writing a comment recommending Crossfire. One of the simplest and most intuitive games out there. Small thing to me, but maybe larger for others? But the "Kiev" pronunciations is the russian version of the naming. I got confused on the news when I heard "Keeeve" and saw it written as Kyiv so I looked it up. I guess Ukraine changed it in 2018. It is produced "Key-ve," as opposed to "key-ev"
From the wiki:
"KyivNotKiev is an online campaign started by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) together with the 15 member centre for strategic communications "StratCom Ukraine" on 2 October 2018. Its goal is to persuade English-language media and organisations to exclusively use Kyiv (derived from the Ukrainian language name Київ) instead of Kiev (derived from the Russian language name Киев) as the name of the Ukrainian capital."
Thanks for sharing! I had no clue.
@Controlled Pairs Gaming no problem! I didnt know either until this all happened!
Nicely explained and inspiring. Thx :)
Have you ever heard of a tabletop game called crossfire? A very simple tabletop simulation game. This just reminded me of it.
I'm not familiar with it. I'll have to check it out.
It's a WWII Company level game, but if you prefer a more modern game, it is very easily adapted. Normally you have several squads in a platoon, and several platoons to a company, as well as HQ staff and weapons teams. In a modern game, you can use:
(Two fireteams and a SL) x3
Two MG teams, one AT team and a SL
A Platoon Leader and a Sergeant
A Medic
And a(n?) RTO or forward observer
Look who I'm telling though...
Anyway, it's a great game. If you can convince a friend to spend a couple hours playing a tactical board game, I highly recommend. If you don't care about the era it's definitely easier to get cheap models and supplies for WWII stuff.
You continue to impress, Pairs
Pretty cool. This reminds of a game called Firefight that I’ve been trying to apply real world doctrine to so I can sharpen my skills.
*Now a historical title*
ya bro i get this was hard to play given current times. but it's weird how this game was developed b4 the protests and civil war and how they actually had to take out a separatist faction is what i heard because of how close to reality it was.
The game needs an update: TB2 drones. Have drones and handheld ATMs made tanks obsolete?
Obsolete? I don't think so. But they've changed a hell of a lot.
I noticed your vehicles were deployed in the oringal facing they were loaded in, you might have fixed this in the part you skip in the edit but you can press G to face a unit into any direction.
great video!
Great to know. Thanks! I still have a lot to learn about CM.
@@ControlledPairsGaming Np, i remember being relieved when i found the 'face' command in CM so i thought i'd share
Dreams dreams...
but Ukraine is able to successfully fight only with monuments to the heroes of the Second World War
Would love to see more videos like this! Maybe red dragon or steel division 2 but I get it if they're not realistic enough. Also thanks for showing this game, probably gonna pick it up
I think you have the best approach concerning what's going on in Ukraine to give donations directly to UNICEF. I've seen others give "humanitarian aid" to the Ukrainian Army and I've found that out of place.
You should do a campaign on this
That's the plan
@@ControlledPairsGaming awesome ! Love your videos
Didnt we have Armas Operation Flashpoint from 2000s that was close to today's objectives?
I feel like it was along those lines actually
Will you be doing a video restricting the fields? Currently fields cannot be used much because of the muddy terrain.
That's a great point. I'll talk it during terrain analysis on the next one.
Just talk, no action? ;-)
They should include Javelin, NLAW and (soon to be) Panzerfaust 3 ambushes by infantry.
Absolutely loved this video
Wait Im pretty sure there is a civ div video from an area incredibly similar to this.
Like a similar location/scenario?
CP, thanks for what you're doing to raise awareness and help support the Ukrainian people. It's horrible what the Ukraines are going through as well as the average Russian soldier who is just following orders and trying to stay alive. So sad.
And now, some good old fashioned CM tips! :)
At th-cam.com/video/Z_gU1i47oGo/w-d-xo.html your ATGM has a normal Target Arc.
Is there an adjustment to the Russian side to make the AI follow a strategy that is totally stupid? Just for realism.
Why not monetise the video and send the money to UNICEF? Just out of curiosity
Considered it. Incurs taxes, TH-cam cut, and opens the door to accusations that I'd rather not ward off.
Its gonna be simulator of my life
Keep it up.. Curious when your going to do a PBEM against a human opponent who knows what they are doing... That would be an interesting match... The AI is nothing compared to a skilled enemy commander...
CM videos are truly your top tier content, double down please
Thank you! CM is extremely difficult, though I find it exceptionally rewarding.
Totally agree!
more combat mission
Good fundraiser
Dude don't worry about the money or the "sensitive subject" all the mainstream media at capitalizing on it and you should too.
Rather than demonitise could you have kept it monetised and donatated any earnings towards an aid charity? Or is it better to demonetise a sensitive subject?
Doh! Didn't see your pinned comment 🙈
You into tabletop wargaming at all?
Absolutely interested, can't say that I have much experience, though.
Yet it's often called a simulation because of how many things are simulated by the way the initiative works. Great game for people getting into wargaming and just people who want an intuitive, fast, realistic experience.
Edit: The one downside is you need a lot of dense terrain and cover. Which is also an upside because it means the maps are almost always beautiful and interesting.
@Kain Bismarck
Flames of War (and its modern counterpart, Team Yankee, which explores a WW3 scenario in 1985) is at the company level, though it does incorporate things like divisional support units.
hey, i have a lot of respect for your stand, and what you said in the beginning, so please dont take this thr wrong wy, but isnt demonetizing the video counter productive ? why not just take all the money made by the adds and add it to the fundraiser ?
See other comments on the subject
@@ControlledPairsGaming great move unfortunately i feel this money is gravely needed, war sucks
You could monetise the videos and donate that. Free money for donation.
how fast do u wanna speak lol
Faster.
Hell yeahh CP
Even the shit Russian forces in every wargame I've ever played are better than what the real thing turned out to be.
Slava Ukraine!
1000th Like.
I don’t find anything such horrible about this video, turn on monetisation. You can vote to on or ff in comment section to this comment
I find good decision to turn off demonisation
I find bad decision in turn off monetisation
Lol Ukraine is losing
It's war. Everyone is losing.
Second :D
No such thing has happened
@@kingdedede1066 you mean war between DPR/LPR vs Ukraine or any war US started?(Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, for example)
@@m1serty massacre in eastern Ukraine
@@kingdedede1066 sure. Maybe not a massacre, but now there is no massacre too. Search Angels Alley in Donetsk. Children died of Ukrainian artillery shelling.
Just if you say that Russian army kill children now in Ukraine-you have to confirm that Ukrainian army killed children in east.
Anyway-it is good to help children. Doesn’t matter which ones. I just hope this money are not going to be spent on Ukr military.
@@m1serty I agree totally with your point that all children deserve to be saved, regardless of location.
Love these videos, your attention to detail along with the clear and concise thought process is something I havent seen anywhere else on TH-cam. huge props for demonetizing out of respect too, im getting one of the combat mission games through your nexus next paycheck to support. though.. im not sure how well ill do as i dont have your extensive doctrinal knowledge to inform my decisions it should be a fun excercise in critical thinking
