your life is great, it must be wonderful to be able to see objects and things with so much history in your own house, it is to be an archeologist without having to repair, from the bottom of my heart I congratulate you for the conservation work for everything you have done and have plans for the future .

I am also a Spencer, too. I'm very proud to be born one. So nice to meet others on here after just linking my lineage to Althrop and lady Di. Purely amazing.

Just take a look at how a family's descendants are telling a story of their ancestors spanning over 500 years. But someone here wants me to believe that my own ancestors were bad people all because of Christianity (religion).
I love all those who came before me, and I will do my best to establish a long-lasting history of my own family lineage just as you guys are doing.
    Much love from Nigeria.

Having visited Althorp at least a dozen times, twice on the private invitation of the Earl Spencer, now that we live in the Algarve, I am so pleased to be able to visit this wonderful heritage home via “Spencer 1508”. I subscribed from the first episode and view the videos when I want to feel like I am back home in the green and gentle pastures of England. Congratulations, Karen, on immersing yourself in this rich history and culture. You are simply fascinating to listen to as you uncover the hidden aspects of Althorp for us who are far away. 👌

I am fascinated by the farming aspect! Both my parents came from farm families during the depression. Dad's family were not wealthy enough to have tractors,so they did all the plowing with hand plows and mules. They lived in Georgia. They also had no electricity or running water and boiled all the laundry in lye soap in a cauldron. They had a smoke house. They made their own bread, biscuits and cornmeal. And in spring, they would take all the furniture out and sun it to kill all the germs. My grandparents were born in 1880 and 1884. They knew how to do everything by hand. They raised cotton primarily and grew their own vegetables and raised livestock which usually they sold. My mother's parents on the other hand were slightly better off. They were both born in 1910. They lived in Iowa which was a harsher climate, had tractors, which they had to know how to repair. To be a modern farmer you had to also be a mechanic.Otherwise their lives were similar. They made everything and went without indoor plumbing and electricity until the early 60's. I grew up at Bethesda Home for Boys in Savannah Ga. Which was a 650 acre property. There we raised beef cattle. So agriculture is a big part of my background. My cousins on both sides grew up in that farming environment. I got less of an exposure, but still grew up on what was a historical property with livestock and did learn to drive a tractor and bale hay! The farming aspect of Althorpe really fascinates me! Agriculture is the backbone of all our society. I still go to state and local fairs and have an interest in gardening and botany, which I have become really good at. I hope ya'll are able to make the farm successful and profitable. It's hard work!
