Ahh yes the 50mm 1.4 that when paired with an ND filter, can match the weight of Sony's gm 70-200. sure it prolly has the most balanced pop to clinical ratio, but at what cost?
I hate to say this, BUT, with the Nikon the cinnamon was yours. You had some pop. Here are a couple of old timer tips to consider. When manual focusing, use the distance scale on the lens to double check your focus. The second thing, when you are close enough to the camera to establish an above the waste shot, you start to pop like a mofo. The 50ish mm lenses like that camera to subject to background ratio.
The Nikon 50mm 1.8S has more character than people give it credit for at or near wide open. I've also never used a lens that performant wide open. Alik Griffin has a great piece about this. The 1.8s don't have as much microcontrast as a vintage lens, but they don't have none either, and their focus falloffs are buttery, especially the 35mm 1.8s. That falloff is a lot of what causes *pop.* I appreciate the appeal of the 1.4 lenses as a vintage lens enthusiast, but right now, they're not actually cheaper since the 1.8s have been on the used market for a while, and I am very cheap with gear. If you want to talk about a Nikon lens that is purely about reproduction, is "perfect" at every aperature, and doesn't have pleasing out of focus areas, that would be a zoom like the 24-120S.

That canon c70 is so nice. Silky smooth, not so oversharpened. On Nikon you have a sunburn. On Sony you look like you’re made of wax. Sony outside at the river looks like you are in front of a greenscreen. Cardboard cut-out. Nikon outside has nice dof transition if that is a real term
C70 its next episode with this camera and its looking magical, colord are smoothly graded and pleasing. nikon looks the worst and I thought fuji. I recorded Christmas carols at school recently with my OM-1 mark1 and 40-150 f2.8. Whole performance was recorded without any pauses fir camera - about 55 minutes of children playing and singing. I was amazed to notice that camera was barely warm (not hot!) and I used only about 35% of battery. It was recorded in OM log400 10bit and Rode microphone connected with minijack. I guess the low temperature of camera is thanks to internal fan. Cheers!
The Canon EF 50mm f1.2 would win, IMO. Maybe not in 3d popness as the zeiss, (nor as the canon 35mm people say), but Lord almighty, the low aperture obliterates the background so nicely. It's not as sharp and cold as the RF 50mm 1.2, and it has some nice character due to CA. I'll sit here and pray to the lens Gods to send you a decent local deal to hear your comments on it. My 50mm 1.8 STM is okay at best. I don't know what to get next... the 24 1.4L, the 34 1.4L, the 50 1.2L, or the 85 1.2L. I like background obliteration. I don't know what I'm saying anymore. All I want is the perfect lens.
If you want to try another Russian lens with crazy swirly bokeh and 3d pop, get the 85mm F2 Jupiter-9. Its based on the Zeiss Sonnar 85mm F2 but that one cost at least 1000$+
Hi Kasey, I just picked up the 24mm f1.4 L Canon EF (first version) lens to use for video and now contemplating which camera body is best to yield that beast. Originally I was thinking to adapt to Nikon or Fuji, but is there any possible options in Canon R you would recommend?
Me Still subbed and watching every single video uploaded even after blowing my budget this year on Sony A7iv, Sony A7Rv, 16-35 GMII, 100-400 GM OSS, 200-600 G OSS, 1.4x and 2x teleconverter. Ofcoz 3D pop 🙈
Hi Kasey, i love your channel for crazy real life testing and great comedy entertainment. 🎉 This is a unique and great show! I don't know anything about RAW video settings or colour grading/luts. But i love judging audio and camera stuff for about 30 years at home. I also worked 5-6 years for Sony selling audio, hifi and camera stuff to customers and doing presentations. Yes, i can confirm we are ancient shape shifting reptilians from outa space. 🦎🛸:-) I think i am also kinda crazy like you comparing tech things. I think a good starting point to get a more natural face look with Sony would be to lower sharpening. Canon has the least amount of sharpening going on and about no halos. Face looks natural but the general image is also much softer. Cinema is also softer and people maybe prefer that look (but with less detail). Sony sharpening is too high imo giving that unnatural image for the face. It is very easy to spot. The parts which are reflecting light are mostly white in your face. These big parts are white sharpening halos. Also your lips look unnatural with white halos. Yes i zoomed in comparing your lips. What a crazy world. Hopefully my wife will not see that :-) These big areas of halos give an unnatural harsh look. Maybe there are more things to consider. But my starting point would be to do sharpening test with different sharpening settings. I am 100% certain, that this would give a more natural look. Then maybe also change the contrast setting. Let's better Sonys face. You are the only one who can do it! Kick Sony white halos arses to the max! Lower the sharpening! It's only some presses! Go for it! Lots of greetings from germany :-) ...lover of the X3000 hanging round my neck
use the adapter to place the 55 on the Nikon. Good results! Best of both worlds.....nikon colors with zeiss glass. ETZ Pro 2 adapter works well as you know.
Coincidences are actually a mathematical inevitability. There are so many opportunities in every moment, and so many moments, that could reveal bizarre coincidences, it's surprising there are not more that crop up. 😊
The helios on the canon inside was gorgeous. The nikon 50mm outside absolutely annihilated everything else. The pop was actually there in. BIG way. If you disagree, you probably have a bad phone/display and your video resolution is set to 360p. You’re wrong 😂
Great comparison - I'd be interested in seeing a 35mm edition. I'm currently shooting talking heads on a Sony a5000 + Viltrox 23mm t1.4, and I want to keep the same framing but I don't see any FE 35mm lenses that get me excited about upgrading to FF. I get more excited about weird & cheap manual APS-C lenses, so maybe I'm destined to be an APS-C guy. Should the label "APS-C guy" bring with it great shame?
Those sexy fuji 35mms are getting old. I still think they are incredible, but mine has lost a coating over time and now in side light has shocking bloom. Which i guess some might like.
really?!...this interests me...did that update make it to the Em1 iii? I can't find any online source talking about this and its not on the official site. WHY?!?...the value would be amazing if so. Do you have any issues with the micro hdmi?...idk why they didn't use a fullsize plug. I wonder if there is a way to add one.
Canon C70 just obliterates the competition, wow. Sony is my second favorite, The Nikon which was so good in that street cinematographer video looks the worst inside somewhow.
It's the same lens on all of those FF systems, the Contax Carl Zeiss Planar 50/1.4. If you really need an APSC "equivalent" for Fuji, then the TTartisan 35/0.95 has a similar enough "look". If you add GFX to the mix, then the Minolta Rokkor 58/1.4 slams everything.
btw. don't get the Canon EF 50/1.2L, it sucks. Just has smooth shallow DoF and no bokeh. If you want a bokehlicious 50/1.2 from Canon, get the 50/1.2LTM instead ;)
@@adinbradic7092 the Laowa with 14 elements is kinda the opposite to the TTartisan with 7 elements and a "classic Planar" design mimicking some punchy vintage 50/1.4 glass. The Laowa gets you very smooth buttery background blur more akin to modern AF lenses, but in a smaller lighter and cheaper package. It's the beauty of living in 2024, there is so much more choice nowadays than ever and easier to find something you like, not just buy something cause it's the only thing available :)
@@KNURKonesur That Laowa is not small and weighs 590g, the same as a Canon 50 1.2 L and almost 50% more than the TTArtisan at 411g. So it's heavier than most autofocus lenses. I wouldn't call €600 cheap either, that's more expensive than a lot of autofocus lenses.

You miss the EF 50 1.2 mark 1! That is the best of all those!
Well that's not really fair.. The other mounts have 1.2s as well..
@ Yes But the debate is not about the fastest But the one with pop, you can test it stoping to 1.4.
Canon, Fuji, Sony in that order but they all looked good, no complaints on any of them. Not sure what happened with Nikon.
Hi Kasey, I just picked up the 24mm f1.4 L Canon EF (first version) lens to use for video and now contemplating which camera body is best to yield that beast. Originally I was thinking to adapt to Nikon or Fuji, but is there any possible options in Canon R you would recommend?
Dude that Nikon AF is overshooting like a Viltrox on a Sony
The Nikon outdoors, OMG!!
Now indoors... it made you look like the band that sings Californication.
the black on fuji looks great... others seems reddish
Nikon Fuji Canon then sony for outdoor, Sony fuji canon nikon indoor
OM System OM-1 mk ii with the M.Zuiko 25mm f1.2 Pro lens. Bet that would look beautiful too!
Panasonic has the best 50mm. And yes I’ve used them all.
I’m sorry, but you dropped the ball not featuring Panasonic when the Lumix 50S is literally the exact same optically as the Leica Summicron L lens.
Then go ahead and donate one so he can test it against the other others.
@ That’s what Amazons return policy is for.
And what makes you think the Leica is any good when it is the same as the Panasonic?
I always come back for the user errors. PS: Nikon had the biggest pop, nearing AI-blur level. Don't quote me on that.
Thanks!
Thank you!
Hi Kasey, i love your channel for crazy real life testing and great comedy entertainment. 🎉
This is a unique and great show!
I think i am also kinda crazy like you comparing tech things.
Hopefully my wife will not see that :-)
These big areas of halos give an unnatural harsh look.
Go for it!
Lots of greetings from germany :-)
...lover of the X3000 hanging round my neck
All this work and Sony Standard looked the best
use the adapter to place the 55 on the Nikon. Good results! Best of both worlds.....nikon colors with zeiss glass. ETZ Pro 2 adapter works well as you know.
Fuji looked the best.
good episode
Coincidences are actually a mathematical inevitability. There are so many opportunities in every moment, and so many moments, that could reveal bizarre coincidences, it's surprising there are not more that crop up. 😊
Sony wins. Sony always wins! It's not just the brown skin tones; it's the full package!
Why would you leave out the S5IIX glass? It's the one camera that a person looking to up their video game would buy...
Sony looked good today 🙂📸
Nikon was complete popcorn outdoors, Fuji was sharpornography indoors
Zeiss was best, I don't know. It's hard to say. I actually think I like the Fuji best. I didn't want to say that, but I thin it's the case.
The helios on the canon inside was gorgeous. The nikon 50mm outside absolutely annihilated everything else. The pop was actually there in. BIG way. If you disagree, you probably have a bad phone/display and your video resolution is set to 360p. You’re wrong 😂
We need the 50 F/.95 tests. I want to see the 4th dimension bokeh.
You haven’t tried Panasonic LUMIX s pro 50mm f/1.4????
Helios is the best! 🤗
Canon the best for me, like seriously it's so pleasing wth it's not even close to the other
Great comparison - I'd be interested in seeing a 35mm edition.
Just got the Sony 11mm for my FX30
What's the best 50mm for you? An 85mm, obviously
This is the first time I’ve thought the Nikon had no pop. No microcontrast. Great color tho
I wonder which Tartaria lens they used back in the day
Panasonics autofocus has got to be beating Nikon by now.
All of them look good. I'm not fussy. I'll leave...
Casey try the Ttartisan 35mm f0.95 on the fuji that lens is very fun and has some POP
Those sexy fuji 35mms are getting old. I still think they are incredible, but mine has lost a coating over time and now in side light has shocking bloom. Which i guess some might like.
Olympus OM-2 has 480 FPS, finally!
really?!...this interests me...did that update make it to the Em1 iii? I can't find any online source talking about this and its not on the official site. WHY?!?...the value would be amazing if so. Do you have any issues with the micro hdmi?...idk why they didn't use a fullsize plug. I wonder if there is a way to add one.
Olympus OM-2 is a film SLR from 1975. I don't think it can shoot 480 FPS.
Your focus sensitivity is set to low on the Nikon?
If you want a bokehlicious 50/1.2 from Canon, get the 50/1.2LTM instead ;)
laowa 33mm f0.95 is better. that is my unwanted opinion.
@DiversionScience umm... why compare 50/1.2 and 35/0.95?
I knew Nikon had taken over Red but in the indoor scene it looks like red has taken over Nikon.
Canon: Best face colors - Sony: Best Pop - Fuji: pretty good, has my heart - Nikon: Future Potential.
wtf is future potential
@ red technology being put into Nikon cameras, you know more dynamic range
