      HS2 was never anything but a Tory money laundering scheme.
      That is laundering taxpayer funds into the hands of Tory friends and family who have the contracts for the work.
      It's exactly the same as the military budget problem in the US - only even they aren't so bald faced as to grease their known friends palms with that money.
      The Tories are truly utterly shameless leaches.

    If the Tories were serious about the north of England they would have started the work there and moved south. They would always have found the funding in that case.

      Hs2 would have been a good thing the problem is when building they wanted to please the climate change activists like they dint do that when the were building the motorways they just built them but when they want to build a railway that will use electricity they have to tunnel under some random forest that no one cares about. They would have saved so much money if they just destroyed they forests and also the amount of people who would have used hs2 instead of cars would have offset how much trees were destroyed.

      I posted this many months ago: HS2 super-fast rail system linking London with Manchester and Leeds. A 200 mile journey. HS2 will take 20 minutes off the travel time. Wow. Originally budgeted at £20 Billion in 2010, the final cost could be well in excess of £100 Billion, possibly reaching £150 Billion, and it won't be finished until 2040. • @dacorum8053
    @dacorum8053 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    HS2 should have been strangled at birth because there was never an honest business case for it. The business case was based on dishonest assumptions about the costs as we all can see. The benefits were based on unrealistic passenger numbers and falsehoods concerning the fares that would be charged that stated that once built, the fares would no more expensive than using slower rail lines in direct contradiction to the experience of HS1 where higher fares are charged.
    It is not to late to cancel the whole project now and to cut our losses because, what we are likely to get if this farce is allowed to continue, is a line from a common in Acton in west London, which is unconnected to the existing rail network to a station in Birmingham unconnected with the rest of the rail network. In other words, it will go from nowhere to nowhere and nobody will use it! It will also be years late.
    Just cancel it and use the money saved to upgrade existing lines and capacity on crowded commuter lines into cities like Manchester

    • @petercharles8799
      @petercharles8799 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It literally is too late to cancel, they have already got huge building sites in Birmingham and OOC, the route is being dug out, and bridges are already assembled. This was and remains the only game in town, it was this or nothing. Also the WCML, MML, and Cross Country route are all getting too busy. We need a new rail line connecting Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, and London.

    • @matty_mcmattface
      @matty_mcmattface ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Exactly right. The funding should have gone to the local lines & infrastructure & fixing the potholes in the roads. We could even re-deploy some of the construction workers to fix the concrete problem in the schools and other public buildings.

    • @dacorum8053
      @dacorum8053 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@matty_mcmattface Exactly right! And also use some of the money saved to fix the cladding problem on our flats as there should have been regulations to prevent inflammable cladding being put on our buildings.

    • @dacorum8053
      @dacorum8053 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@petercharles8799 It is never too late to cancel an unfinished project which is over budget and a total waste of money that we cannot afford. The world is dotted with unfinished engineering projects.
      It is a total fallacy to say that HS2 would relieve pressure on other lines when it doesn't even join up with the rail network in Birmingham and Acton! HS2 if ever completed would by definition mean worse intercity connections for places like Watford , Milton Keynes and Coventry as they are not on the HS2 route. They won't have the same connections or the journey times and if other stages are built, they will have to change trains to complete journeys to Manchester, so just HOW is HS2 a benefit to people living in towns and cities not on HS2 when it is clear it would result in a worse service for them? After all the only way HS2 can improve capacity on the the existing Euston Birmingham line is by taking off the intercity services serving the towns on the route. That would be the case, wouldn't it? I'm right, aren't I?

    And this is a surprise because…? The country is clearly broke and has been for years living on credit and losing it’s ability to repay. I hear sometimes arguments that investment is the way out of economic doldrums. Hs2 was only going to line pockets of shareholders and those that built it. After that it would be at best small change and beer money for local businesses and damn prohibitively expensive for travel on for ordinary folk much as the rest of the rail network is.

    This railway should have been clocked, on time and budget for a country like Britain the way we strutt our stuff.
    Perhaps we need to rethink who we really are.
    Absolutely humbling.
    The ruins of an Empire crumbling.
    Milled between Left and Right into dust, blowing away into the winds of time.
    Sad.

    I hope the whole thing gets binned. We don't need it. People don't travel as much by train anymore. It's unreliable due to militant strikes and the fares are ridiculous. Why do we need another line to Birmingham? There's already two, the chiltern route and the exorbitant west coast mainline route. We need the money it's costing to pay all the hotel bills for illegal migrants.

      Just another party of clowns and crooks promising a lot; easy to do when they’re far from being in charge. And even if they do get in charge, on a closer look one realises they don’t seem to have much competency or much vision. Yet they are still very appealing to people who are most susceptible to buzzwords and identity politics.

    I was in Warwickshire last week, and the state sponsored vandalism is heart breaking. A massively over budget white elephant to get a few people to Birmingham half an hour earlier at the cost of pristine ancient woodland. I would bet my house that no Tory MPs estate will be affected by this monstrosity.

      Not a few people from Birmingham but any one that travels on the Avanti West Coast trains from Birmingham to London Euston at the moment will when HS2 opens have to travel on the HS2 line, like wise from Manchester.
