I'm sure to the uninitiated and mentality of that time period if you never heard a sound like that (especially at night) from a few of those ships you'd think it was the second coming of christ after you changed your trousers...
Most of them as devout Christians regularly visited churches and thus were familiar with the the sound of large church organs. Not the same but certainly similar so that the sound of whistles wasn't as alien to them.
Those microphones are a hundred years old And since they were near the ship it was so loud it’s distorted, Good audio quality. Loud sound And it has to be loud because the whistles would be useless if quiet
Deutschland and Viktoria Luise are the same ship - how can their horn(s) sound so differently? What are the sources for these recordings? Anyway, they all sound superb!
I think they're meant to sound intimidating by design since ocean liners are such large and menacing creations. Plus, some of these recordings are crap.
Actually, she was not she never made it to being a passenger liner after being sunk as a hospital ship also, those photos of RMS Britannic were photoshopped

Mauritania sounding like a horror ship in WWI while Olympic was the horror ship, at least to the U-boat.

Its amazing how you found the whistles for all 4 funneled liners. I never thought recordings of the Arundel and Windsor Castle’s whistles even existed
They didn’t - a lot of these are just random whistle sounds.
Those 2 ships never existed

At first I thought they had left out 'Britannic' since she wasn't grouped with her sister ships 'Olympic' and 'Titanic'.

No one talking abt that Aquitanias Horn Breaks Sound Barriers?
there is another whost;e i found of the real SS france
the Titanic had 3 funnels, the fourth one was fake
Incredible Doom.
I Like the Britannic horn 👍🏻
Britannics horn
There were 14 produced. Not a single out of all the 14 survive.
They are all extinct
Why are my Olympic sun's more different compared to Titanic's whistle
Why does Aquitania sound like a vehicle revving?

Titanic's horn sounds really loud.
and that's on air, after being raised from the atlantic.

RMS aquitania sounds weird and plus sounds long to very long
Rms olympic horn looks like The Roblox Titanic
Fun fact: great eastern actually has 5 funnels not 4
One of them was eventually removed and that leaves only four
Why Aquitainia Horn sounds weird it is like a black hole
The First one got me dying
Edit:the first one is a asmr
how does it get you laughing that doesnt even make sense
Ngl Great Eastern Sounds like a Steam Loco
I like great eastern horn
Omg the olympic hron is roblox titanic.
Great Easterns my favorite.
Great Eastern breaks my eardrums the best
The great eastern originally had five funnels
Not even a single four funneled ocean liner was preserved.
these sound like they're straight out of horror films and/or horror games
I think they're meant to sound intimidating by design since ocean liners are such large and menacing creations. Plus, some of these recordings are crap.
Was RMS Olympic supposed to sound like that
Just so u know the great eastern actually had 5 funnels and broke the record for the first ship to have 5 funnels
Today they don’t make ships with that many funnels anymore. They only make them with only one funnel or none.
Yea it's because they don't need like 5 or 5 steam stacks
The liners with four and five funnels are both extinct
first one got me a 1 sec eardrum bleed
No more four funneled liners are in existence today.
Well technically there are some but they are at the bottom of the sea 🙁 And the funnels are collapsed off
The last one (The RMS Arundel Castle) was scrapped in 1959
Actually the last four funneled liner was the aquitania
Weird, Because in Wikipedia it says that the Aquitania was scrapped in 1950 and the Arundel Castle was scrapped in 1959
What I mean if there being none in existence today is that none of them have been preserved
