You know, i've always been curious about how these beaches looked like back in 1944 because we know from all the articles and movies that the battle was carnage, but looking at some strong points, we don't have the evidence that shows all the guns and mg positions the germans had anymore.
That's the best video i've ever seen about this and i've been doing research on this for a long, long, long time. Now i have a pretty good idea of what those men faced in the morning of june 6th. Great job, man.

Glad you found it interesting, I really share the same interest in these fortifications and actually want to do a complete video on these strongpoints showing everything in detail.

this is so interesting, thanks. i love ww2 defensive bunkers, but all we get in movies are usually MG bunkers and not a lot of people know about gun bunkers, i remember in one EP of the pacific, they actually showed a japanese gun bunker briefly before it was destroyed. to me, the real life thing is so so much more interesting than saving private ryan version. i always wonder, why would they build a MG bunker with such a big opening? are they not begging to be shot by snipers, or simply rifles fire? then later i learnt that these are not MG bunkers but range finder bunkers and everything makes sense. and i also love the idea of placing MG bunkers at the flanks, and i think its the standard way to place machine gun unlike popular belief of putting them in the middle. i wonder do they have mortar bunkers at the back as well, one version of normandy beach in some ww2 games i played before had mortar bunkers, basically a big hole in the middle of the bunker to fire mortar towards the beach.

This position would actually have mortar bunkers on the hill.

Yes I think Company of Heroes had these bunkers, mortar bunkers and Pantherturm bunkers. They also had pretty nice version of MG bunker. Shame they lacked some Tobruks etc but it was still more than most WWII games feature

Wow, another great video. It is more dramatic to show massive bunkers that would have stuck out in the movies. Only problem is that the destroyers would have great targets and would have pounded them until no one could have been firing from them. The Germans were not stupid and firing down the beaches makes more sense than placing strong points out in the open. Keep up the good work.

Yes indeed these bunkers were just way to big to be effective in reallife.

I'd absolutely love to see more of these kinds of illustrations. You do an amazing job of them. If you made a book of them and similar IE a book of bunker/trench/designs I'd buy it immediately

That would actually be a great idea for a book.

Well done separating fact from fiction to give us a more accurate picture of these battles. Your visuals help me more than most descriptions in the books. Looking forward to your other videos on German WWII bunkers, a fascinating subject for me.

Excellent presentation. I saw a much longer video on WW2TV that went into more detail on this, and you have it spot on. Great job! ❤

I remember pointing out to my friends all the problems with the DDay scenes in the movie and my friends getting upset that I was nit picking. I kept telling them that the actual beach landing was far worse and that it needed to be shown accurately to highlight the effort it took to over come the German defenses.

    Hi mate
You just have to love Hollywood for the dramatised version of the story.
I’ve obviously heard and seen videos on the same topic, but as always your video presentation is more interesting!
Thanks for sharing your time and effort, also the great editing ❤😊

James Holland had said that MG42s were hardly used by the Germans during the initial landings. Is that accurate?

    • @PanzerPicture
      @PanzerPicture  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Indeed MG42 and 45 were really rare and a lot of machine guns they used were captured onces.

Yeah, i was always told the only reason we took the beach was because the german supply lines were compromised.
