Premier Guitar’s Chris Kies visits Nashville’s Exit/In before Allah-Las’s gig to hang with bassist Spencer Dunham and guitarists Pedrum Siadatian and Miles Michaud to talk vintage guitars, road-worn tube amps, and why they love ’verb.
The only bass that Spencer Dunham brought on the road to support the just-released Calico Review is this short-scale ’60s Klira Ohio model that he scored at Caveman Vintage in L.A. The Ohio has a rotary control for its tone filter, but he generally rocks it in the first position. He uses D’Addario ECB82 Chromes Flatwound Medium strings.
Guitarist Pedrum Siadatian’s No. 1 is this ’60s Gibson Firebird that is essentially stock except for the kitty sticker on its headstock.
Miles Michaud relies on this 1959 Gibson ES-125T all night long. He used to play an acoustic onstage, but decided to go electric because he wanted a little more signal and energy while performing live.

I can't handle the energy from these guys.
Not sure about the negative comments. All three members interviewed were friendly and courteous to the questions. And ive watched other interviews with this band and they always are that way
This interviewer is really bad. This could easily be a written run down of their rigs, would probably be better.
you gotta remember these guys tour/travel alot and I mean ALOT so these guys always seem like they're pooped which they are
@@cantina2425 and let’s not forget they’re always absolutely B A K E D
two are unfortunately heavy users of opiates and thats one of the reasons the band faltered
Their music doesn’t call for very crazy equipment. They’re very minimalistic people who just aren’t so gear driven like most of us who follow this page are.
In a way I wish I was like that so I wouldn’t be spending every $ I earn on gear ahaha.
But I also had a Twin reverb just like Miles’. It’s not an aftermarket faceplate, those are the 79-82 year range faceplates just because that is the riviera era. They’re about 135 Watts RMS (35 more than the year before) and have a totally different tone compared to earlier twins.
I personally think they’re hella brighter and definitely not that deep sounding. Not the greatest sounding twins, especially for blues or more lighter-gain stuff but for mellow sounding tone the amp served me well.
Their exquisite garage/surf sound speaks for itself.
Those decrying the seeming lack of energy of these gents would do well to remember that they probably became musicians precisely BECAUSE they find it hard to express themselves in conversation (as indeed most muso are). Let’s judge them on what they’re good at (music) and not what they are not (wacky self-promotion)
You earned your money there Chris Thank God for Miles
mac demarco please!
A Preoccupations rig rundown needs to happen. Can't go wrong with a 12 string Hagstrom and a plexi strat.
We would love to set one up with them, unfortunately their current tour doesn't have them hitting Nashville.
I wish their current tour would hit Kansas city as well :)
I’ve played the “murph” and played 2 gigs through his twin reverb. Supported the boys in Scotland for Edin and Glasgow 2015 I’m gonna say! Much love lads especially pedrum 😎
Great interview. Reminds me of my playing days back in the 70's only with more pedals.
I honestly don' get the negative comments on here. Nothing cringe-worthy whatsoever.
same
What charismatic young fellows!
Do a ty segall or john dwyer one
Noah Nash Ty did a rig rundown of sorts with Reverb Soundcheck
Feel bad for Chris on this one... He's getting nothing from each question he asks
Chad Van Oostendorp
Right? I'm bored as Hell. Barely made it through the bassist's rig.
Marijuana is not his friend!
Do you think he's asking good questions of the guy with the Firebird?
Yeah, is it a weed filter ?... your just dull?
Shoulda went more Nardwaur on this one.. Asking about influences and crap.. They're major music nerds
So much enthusiasm!
I still love their records though
Poor Chris indeed. Chris sounded relieved at the end - like he was in a hurry to leave, hahaha.
they sound great live
Amazing live
finally a good band
these guys' attitudes is exactly how I'd handle this. I don't get it, you don't have to talk constantly to be interesting literally every time they spoke they were polite, even when the interviewing was making jabs. I think the real weirdoes are in these comments.
Exactly!
One wonders why they agreed to do this in the first place. Perhaps it was pressure from their label. It got me to listen to their music and I kind of like it, so I guess it worked.
As I learned from Mark Agnesi from Norm's Guitars yesterday, T does indeed mean 'thin'
interview was not as bad as the people in the comments are making it out to be.
exactly, i can see the concern but dude just let em play theyre a bunch of reprobaes outta LA yk ? let em be stoned and let the music do the talkin
well at least the 3rd guy was not to stoned to talk!! lol
5:22 he's seeing unicorns... haha
Hafiz Hadzori Haha that's what I was thinking
These dudes are so chill and clearly not fast-talking gear heads and the interviewer did a bad job at matching their energy. He kept trying to bring them up to his hyperactive nerd level lol
Not everyone has zakk wylde's personality. Its a rig rundown not an interview lmao
It’s obvious these guys are not very into the specs of their gear. I am the same way I don’t really get it but I think most viewers of this channel are into stuff like that.
This video is why double speed playback was invented.
Seems like Spencer and Pedrum really didn't hit it off with Chris. I personally find the interviewer rather charmless and hectic. I mean look at his body language and facial expression most of the time. And when he came back to Pedrum about the fuzz "I dont know what ugly would sound like because its a visual" - was that supposed to be funny? I think they all were pretty uncomfortable doing this.
A David Gilmour rundown would be amazing!
No way jose, I would pay to watch that trilogy !!!
a gilmour girls tribute rundown would be crazy
Kári Hep Alien rig rundown
This band is really good, just not at interviews lol
Their music does their talking...
does anyone know if theyve done a king gizzard video yet? it might be a hour long lol but id watch the hell outta that. darkthrone would be pretty cool too but im sure fenriz probably already has a video about that somewhere.
ive found this channel pretty recently and i wonder how i didnt find it before. it gives a great insight into your favorite bands and help dissect the unique sound you love. and it covers so many different types of bands/music! this guys pretty lucky to be able to talk to all of these people about what they love. subbed!
You guys gotta do a rundown on Vulfpeck
Tough interview. Top marks to the interviewer for effort.
Just met them. Lovely people.
Absolutely LOVE Allah-Las! ❤
Miles seemed down to earth and fairly knowledgeable. The other two were all like "Yeah, this is a bass and it makes noise and stuff..."
Hey good work - so hard to do a gear review on a band that … doesn’t have much gear! Strings and Boss tuners are the only things from this century :D
It's like. Small amounts of ether is being pumped into this venue.. And these guys are just. Breathing it in. Getting tired and losing brain function.. Yeah I feel really bad for Chris right now.
Time Warp Music! I love those guys. Great shop if you are ever near Venice.
I changed the speed to 1.25 for comfort.
best host this show has...lamest interviewees out there....probably mad he interrupted their magic the gathering game in the green room
And also the Jimi Hendrix Experience tour was just announced, you guys at PG should definitely talk to Buddy Guy when he gets to Memphis!
I want to party with these guys.
I'm going to give these guys the benefit of the doubt and assume they were just nervous to be in front of a camera talking instead of playing. If that's not the case, I thought they almost came off as rude with the way they'd give one and two word answers.
I love the interview, but it feels awkward at times...
Did that bass borrow from Hagstrom guitars? Any info would be great
Wow that Interviewer is lame.
Apparently, modern American parlance includes starting a dependent clause with "so"....but then bailing out and not finishing the sentence: SO.....WHAT!?!?!? (1:12) (3:35) (4:11) (4:54)
so
Did you guys get Devin Townsend when he came through Nashville?
Please do a Hanni El Khatib rig rundown
That Fuzz Factor wouldn't sound so ugly if he put it before the tuner. Those pedals hate buffers before them.
Damn, these guys need to calm down. Talking my ear off. Relax fellas.
that bass is bad ass
that bass sounds like primus
these guys are ...ccccccchhhhiiiiilll
Do a Nada Surf rundown!!
I love watching paint dry
wow. brutal. Nice job for pressing forward with these guys. snore-fest
Anyone know the type of strap Spencer has?
I lasted six minutes and I couldn't watch anymore. Never had that experience before.
Man, I love the music they make, but they need to lay off the acid lol
without the lsd they wouldn’t make the music that they make
Are the first 2 dudes extremely high? Or are they just not interested in talking about their gear? Lol
low blood sugar
This guy interviews better than the others.
Poor Chris, He's really earned his money interviewing these guys.
My god, what a thoroughly un-enigmatic bunch.
lol
Hey I knew his cousin, his last name was Akbar. Cool guy, always wore vests and he liked planes smh....
Some of the comments on here are unbelievably lame.
Should be titled Allah-(peace be upon him)Las.
You guys don't want to be culturally insensitive do you?
"Guitarist Miles Michaud told AXS that the band got its name from two California art movements. Allah was a nod to the Orientalism that was found in much of the west in the 19th century. The “las” refers to the kitschy, art deco style architecture found in mid-20th century southern California."
Does this band understand a rig rundown could help with exposure? The interview transcends whatever their music is... Superficial I know, but if they don't care I don't care.
I absolutely love Rig Rundown but this one and Deerhoof are absolutely the worst Rig Rundowns I ever watched.
That lack of passion is scary. This is an easily forgettable rig rundown.
I can just tell they're insanely tired. I've seen these guys like 5 times, they're never this dull
My favorite one lol
Pierce the veil rundown
I just don't get how somebody buys a guitar, a special guitar, and then forget what it is... what year... that it is a REVERSE Firebird... pfff... wtvr.
I don’t get how someone would remember the year on their guitar 😂
@@RobotMillionaire As every entitled prick wouldn’t.
Wow, what a joke.
Some of these band are so lame and have no energy or personality... They make it feel like it's a burden ...
I love these guys and the albums they've released but goddamn this makes me cringe.
I think these guys have to be the most boring people in existence. Absolutely horrible to try and interview. lol
Awkward.
I've never understood why so many of my favourite bands are so BORING as people. Honestly for a band that make such charismatic music and clearly care about playing interesting instruments and getting a great sound, this could have been great but these guys sent me to sleep. I sometimes wonder whether it's because they're a little bit awkward about being on camera so think the safest way not to embarrass themselves is to say nothing sincere or of any vague interest and hope it makes them seem mysterious and cool. It never does, other than to teenage kids who always seem to mistake bands being charisma-less for "OMG these guys seem so high in this interview"....
lame
Whatta bunch a clown shoes
That guy at 8:30 in the video literally plays guitar like my 8 year old sister.... she has been playing for 2 months. That guy sucks.
Elijah Young he's giving an example of ugly. he's not really trying
he's just giving examples of what it sounds like
hahaha try watching one of their live performances he's just demonstrating the pedals not trying to show off
Have you ever heard the guy actually play? Cuz he’s incredibly talented
