    Whenever I'm searching for something Tableau-related on TH-cam and see one of your videos in the list, I jump straight to it! I'd forgotten all this user-control stuff and your video was just the level I needed. Again.

    As usual, excellent video Tim! I've personally never had a use case for this, but I might try "Welcome back Tim"

    Hi Tim, have you tried to pass USERNAME() to custom SQL?
    Eg. Select name from user_table where name =USERNAME();

    Any idea on why I would not be able to drag a calculated fields onto the filter shelf? The only thing in the field is IsMemberOf("group name"), same as you. The field goes into the measures section and I am not able to convert to a dimension. Data source is a tabular model idk if that matters

      It should work just fine. Heres a screen shot of the way mine appears on superstore. imgur.com/phUYqtj try doing it on superstore and check the group is a string. I use single quote marks in my example.

      @@TableauTim Yes it did work on Superstore but still does not on my report. Perhaps that is the case because the data source is a live connection to a tabular model?

      @@TheeCommish that shouldn’t matter as the is member of function is function that works a bit like a parameter once it’s checked the server. This might be a good one to forward to tableau support. Even if it didn’t work it should return false and still let you put it wherever. I used the data model in my superstore example as well so that shouldn’t be the issue.
      Out of interest is the data source coming from tableau server, is it a published data source?

      @@TableauTim its getting it from SSAS, Tableau just connects to it

    Hi Tim, have you tried to pass USERNAME() in a calculated field to a dynamic variable? I've been able to get this to work locally, but it breaks when published. Have you experienced this?

    • @TableauTim
      @TableauTim  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Should always work. What exactly about it breaks? Is the variable a parameter?

    • @Ninjanium
      @Ninjanium 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TableauTim Sorry, I meant dynamic parameter. When published to Tableau server, the calculated field changes to a database column and is no longer able to update the dynamic parameter. I see this behaviour with 2021.1.4
