    haha , no, now it all comes full circle. two years in the future, I am spending oct/nov renting an apartment in Corigliano D'Otranto, from Canada. So I was researching things to do, as we do. I came upon the Travel Beans video last night; I've watched them for years but missed that one, so it was like old friends showing me around. I did note Emma's laugh at the wall carving. And today, doing more research, I watched you explore this site and show Emma and Alex laughing at the wall carving lol. I will have to find it!!!

    Hi guys. Thanks for the great videos, which are both informative and interesting. We are visiting Puglia later this year and will be discovering the region by car. We have travelled extensively and love to discover as lone tourists...so a lot in common with you 🙂. When we hired a car when travelling in Tuscany we found it problematic...much more so than anywhere else in the world we had travelled to. Compared to a lot of other developed countries the road signs are always in Italian with no sub language. As we do not speak Italian (we always attempt to speak and get to know the local language) we were always very aware of ensuring we parked in a permitted zone and tried to avoid travelling down restricted (residents only) roads...particularly where there was no Italian sign to attempt to translate just a local graphic sign. We failed, returning home to the UK to a nice driving fine (we had hit a restricted zone without realising 😞). We would be grateful for any advice/information you can give as regards driving in Puglia and particularly when we enter towns to park etc. We wonder if we should leave the car at our various regional bases (hotels, B&B) and take public transport (Train/buses etc) to the towns and villages (centre of)...but doing that seems to be counter intuitive when paying to hire a car. Any help you can give guys would be appreciated. Keep well and safe travelling. "Diolch yn fawr" from Wales.

    From Wikipedia: "The Adriatic or Apulian Plate is a small tectonic plate carrying primarily continental crust that broke away from the African Plate along a large transform fault in the Cretaceous period. The name Adriatic Plate is usually used when referring to the northern part of the plate. This part of the plate was deformed during the Alpine orogeny, when the Adriatic/Apulian Plate collided with the Eurasian Plate."

    • @NewstateNomads
      @NewstateNomads  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Traci! We would say yes, just because it's a more rural area and there aren't the same options for getting around like in the bigger cities. And yes, driving was much easier there. There are a few restrictions, like driving in the ZTL's inside of Bari and some of the older cities. But we found it very doable!

    Hi. Just came across your channel because I was looking to see how to manage getting around the Puglia area without a car. However, it seems you need one. Any recommendations on which car company and where (I think you said Bari), but would it be more economical to rent elsewhere? Also, did you drop the car off back at point of pick-up? BTW, love the relaxed meandering vibes you both have about this trip through Puglia.

      Jules, thanks so much and great question! We actually picked up the car at the train station in Naples since we planned to end our driving route there as well. It was through Budget/Avis. You can certainly find car rentals in other towns, I believe we mention Bari in the episode. The trains do run along the coast, so it is possible to explore those areas, but I would still recommend picking up an inexpensive car for a few days to discover the interior. Really enjoyed learning more about Puglia, and especially the interesting coast rock formations and grottos. Just an fyi which you probably already know. Gallipoli (the Turkish one) is a place with massive resonance for many folk whose grandparents and greatgrandparents fought there in WW1, perhaps most especially folk from Australia / NZ. No reason for you to dwell on it because it's not the same place, but some acknowledgement might have been nice. SE Italy has a lot of Turkish influences dating back several centuries (eg the Trulli), so that probably explains the name being the same. Keep travelin'!

    • @FedeDiver1
      @FedeDiver1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gallipoli got its name from ancient Greeks as it was part of the Magna Grecia (the pre-roman Greek colonies in South Italy) and probably so did the one in Turkey…and I wouldn’t say that there are Turkish influences there, but rather Byzantine, which was a different culture and historical period…there is no documentation that connects trulli to Turkey either, it’s mostly speculation

    It was so cool that the B&B allowed you to at least go somewhere and get bfast. ❤
    The grottos in Roca were spectacular as were all of the drone shots. I was wondering if you had brought the drone because on some of the other vids you only used a few shots and I wasn't sure if those shots were just part of tourist info on the regions. 👍
    Photos with no tourists in the shot are the best. ❤❤
    Do people speak English in the tourist areas or are you ordering from food places and such by the 'point at what you want' method?

    Guys the “pizzette sfoglia con salame” were those underneath 😂😂😂 that one was “pane arabo” and I hope you have paid for what it was as the price was 0.29 lol.
    Bear in mind when you see the word “pizza” or “pizzetta” (small pizza), it means the toppings are only on top indeed. Those which are stuffed are “calzone” or “panzerotto” which most of the time is no gonna look that white and empty like those bread rolls you have taken by mistake.

    Nice video but spare us from looking at Lidl junk. German supermarkets with imitation Italian foods. Only someone with zero palate and knowledge could get there. An Italian would go to a bar or pastry shop or have breakfast at home.
