This seems to be really useful with the multiple emulations. Would love to see a comparison between the Ash and Schwab Gold Clip since that one was modeled after the Lavry Gold converter.

Instant like, mostly because you're the first one I knew who wanted this in a plugin! So glad that Acustica has made this and we're all able to enjoy! Great video!

It took awhile for Acustic Audio to drop this......even it took a long while for Antares TEch (the makers of Auto-Tune post The T-Pain Effect discontinued by Izotope) to drop their new Auto Tune Vocal Compressor which rocks ass to the core!!!!

I have AA Fire the Clip, or FTC. Good clipper in terms of sound, speed, and ease of use. I demo'd the Ash plug against my analog clipping combo of Lynx Aurora n DA into a Burl B2 Bomber ADC pushed to it's loudest levels and.... the ASH plug was pretty much neck and neck with it, honestly.

Amazing video!! I did an extensive test gain matching, nulling etc. The Yellow +3 adds a nice 3d image to my ITB mix, but the Grey 8x has crazy punch!!!!

I use standard clip on certain mix elements (kick, snare) that might trigger a limiter too hard and then clip the mix before & after the master limiter (which discernibly does not work as hard at that point). …we’re talking tiny bits along the way. Now, my masters are loud w/o effort or changing the vibe of the mix with too much (sometimes if any) limiting.

wait why do you clip your mix after the final limiter? I clip individual elements like kick then clip the mix at the beggining of my mastering chain then one before the final limiter.

Obvs this has more flavas but I'm wondering how it stacks up against Acustica Fire the Clip for a more budget-friendly solution, or if there are other clippers out there that might sound close to Acustica quality. Because now I'm thinking I should just leave the final clipping to the mastering engineer.

Interesting. This is like an advanced version of Voxengo’s OVC128. They aren’t giving it away $$. Still not as expensive as MDW’s new DRC plugin though. We might be heading into an era of higher end software that’s also priced higher. I guess the same as cheaper vs expensive hardware. Happy new year :)

Are their scenarios where you’d use the HWMC with Ash? I realize their doing different things, but know you like both for “in the box” mastering. Prob can’t afford both right now & was curious for hip hop if you think it would be beneficial to have both at your disposal. Thanks man!

I think possibly the irony is that here on TH-cam and on mobile speakers, all I can hear is the compression slamming the once nice signal into a lack of dynamics. To me that sort of proves the point about why mastering so hot is a bit of a waste of good source material. I know that's how the clients like it so it is what it is I guess. I think Dan Worrall framed it best with his 'I Won The Loudness Wars' video.

The GR meter is so whack on this plugin. So typical of Acustica to make the plugins so clunky and crappy to use IMO. Sounds okay, getting similar results with the TRracks clipper but for the money and the lack of overall visual workflow and metering, I gotta pass on this.

Complete waste of money. Just use a soft clipper like standard clip and it will do the job. Clipping shouldn’t be “heard” but should add distortion but so quickly you don’t notice it.
The only thing you are getting here is a skewed stereo image that is “different” then your original file and louder. If you are going to use these types of “conversion emulations” then it’s better off at the beginning and work that sound into your master
