Yep, I mix up fast(er) serves with really awful serves that bounce twice inside the service box. I best describe this limp serve as a kick serve with not much height and not much forward energy ie masses of spin so it barely clears the net and drops down quickly after the bounce. Only works on grass, kinda works on clay, because it needs the surface contact to take advantage of the spin.
The killer was not the serve's trajectory + spin, it's that he hit it with a full swing, so there was no possible way to anticipate a slow spinner. Hit that underhand or with a slow stroke, and a pro player returns it 100% of the time.
Identical principle to a baseball changeup. Same arm speed and angle as a fastball, but the pitch just dies at the last minute when you think it won't.
I was a washed up tennis pro in my 30’s playing a practice match against a college all American. The first serve I him was a short slice off the deuce court for an ace. He never moved. He looked up and said “ you aced me with your slowness”. 😂

@@matc241I looked again, don't know it hit the frame, would be too hard to control if it did. That spin was by design, pretty sure. But I may be wrong.
@Blaisem That was my sort of description based on how the ball spun upon landing. I imagine the ball spun like a baseball pitcher throwing a slider. Sort of diagonal rotation that allowed for up and down followed by sideways maneuver. @@robertherrera912 Nah, it wasn't intentional, it was a complete mishit off the frame that happened to go in with crazy spin as a result. If it was possible to do that intentionally then it would be getting used a lot more.
It's a trick serve that once you see the ball come off the racket (if not before) then you could easily get to it in time. Eubanks didn't start running until a good half second after the ball left the racket. If this serve was done more frequently, it would get trounced.
