Not really. Idk why people don't get this, but it's made a point bt mako and bolin that Kirras fighting is too slow and open. This is because she's trained in old school/traditional styles, which is why she gets beat in fights. It's the whole reason she started probending. Same goes for all the OG Cast.

Korra did probending because she liked their fighting style and could use it to better hers doesn't necessarily mean they were better that is based on the bender's ability during a battle. Toph still fights old school and is still the best Earth/Metal bender in the show hence why Korra wanted her to teach her not to get beat up. Tenzin also fights old school n did better against the red lotus than anyone else. The OG cast fighting style maybe traditional but how many persons from the New era can you say is good at their bending or even renoun masters ? Boelin is nowhere near a top 5 earthbenders nor can I call him a master Mako isn't at Zuko nor Azula's level of fire bending non of the Chi blockers seen in the LOK is better than Ty Lee . The best benders I can say in the new era would be Kuveira , Tenzin, Tenzin kids, Sui yeng ,Lin, Red Lotus, Amon, Tanrak , Eska and Desna and Korra . I can add Mako here because he was good just not better than the OG fire benders mentioned above I think Zuko's grandson may be great also but he got limited screentime so can't use him here.
@andrade1480 I never said anything about being weaker, that's not how fighting styles work. Idk what your definition of "master" is but it certainly isn't one that fits either show. Katara wasn't a master of water bending before becoming Aang's master, neither was Zuko (btw Mako is the only one to use the fire knife, same a Zuko). Mako and Bolin are at the equivalent of pro boxers/ MMA fighters. Mako could use lightning like nothing by the time he was Zuko and Azula's age, and the Firefoxes are well known in Republic City, so they aren't fun of the mill fighters. Mind you, Korra was trained by masters her whole childhood up to the start of the show, masters of traditional martial arts and masters of bending, so at what point is someone a master? Tenzin is a special case, people keep ignoring the fact that dude is an Airbender. It doesn't matter what style he uses, people don't understand how to fight airbenders. That's why (the notion of gaining bending aside) Zaheer -as well as his martial prowess which is essentially MMA- was such a challenge, because he's using a bending that people just haven't faced. To your mention of "talking about pro bending" that doesn't matter, that's part of my point. Pro bending is more boxing/MMA like, where the emphasis on quick, direct, and consistently effective/non-circumstantial attacks. Also, it's very influential, being a primary sport event televised all over. You'll notice that even street thugs like those Korra chased fight in this manner, this is the basis of fighting in LOK, as opposed to the more flashy traditional moves of ATLA. That all said, Bolin and Kuvira are the best examples of what I mean. You can see that typically earthbenders use stances that are low and firmly planted, with their feet flat as often as possible. However, in LOK earthbenders have much lighter footwork and only go into firm stances for heavy attacks, as again, the boxing-esque style is more prevalent. This is especially highlighted with Kuvira.
Fun fact: Azula is one of the only female firebenders in both AtLA and LoK. Only other one i can think of is P'Li. Meanwhile male firebenders include Azulong, Sozin, Ozai, Iroh, Zuko, Jeong Jeong, Dzao, Combustion Man, Chit Sang, Mako, other Iroh, Lightning Bolt Zolt. Even generic Fire Nation soldiers are usually male.
Its because in Fire Nation society male are considered fit for the military function its not intense as the North Water Tribe customs, they were truly 100% against women fighting meanwhile for the Fire Nation, it simply wasnt that normal, but women could fight if they wanted and ocupy high military positions

Not true... the fire nation is actually the most progressive when it comes to women. They had women in their armies and as guards. In the invasion epsiode and a few others they have female guards and military that can fire bend. In the EARTH kingdom if you notice, Toph is actually one of the only female earthbenders and I don't recall seeing one woman in the earth kingdom army or as a guard.

I think you're misunderstanding their fighting styles. Azula is a proactive fighter, leaning on her rising positive jing to increase the pressure on her oppoonents to create opportunities. Kuvira on the other hand is a very disruptive fighter who has mastered neutral jing. She isnt the first to strike, relying on brutal counters and tempo disruption to not let her opponents get into their stride. We see it when she restricts movements of the limbs with metal sheets and disrupts your stances with earth. More importantly, Kuvira has a much simpler win condition. Azula has to incapacitate or kill kuvira with something that can overcome a metalbending masters defense while Kuvira needs to get a single metal band onto one of Azulas limbs. If its her feet, her fire jets and mobility are gone. If its hee hand, she loses half her ability to generate lightning. And since Azula can't track metal after it whizzes past her, she has to keep her head on a swivel to not get caught up. Long range, kuvira has more time to evade her kightning. Close range, kuvira is packing her up. Kuvira takes it mid diff
Hello fellow ATLA NERD I didn’t watch ALOK much But from what I see Kuvira is amazing, she follows the similar approach of fighting like Toph. She might be fighting in pattern like style but its simply because that move itself is versatile and fluid, I believe that in a one on one first encounter she’ll incapacitate Azula for sure, but not easily and if for any reason Azula escapes… That’s where things start to get interesting, Azula is very versatile very adaptable and unpredictable, she will maneuver a means to suppress Kuvira’s abilities, she has no restraint no jurisdiction, and we are forgetting that the last time she lost, she did so by being restricted by Katara, if for any reason she goes against a formidable opponent like Kuvira, you should know that she learns from her mistakes, almost is not perfect, she will not be restrained not again so I believe she’ll escape when the odds are high against her and when ready she’ll strike, with the most precise and ferocious bolt right here👉🏻❤️. Especially IF Kuvira restraints, she’s manipulated, and makes 10 moves before her opponent.
@@pereboseregodknows2018 the kind of restraint that Kuvira would employ is the bands around the limbs and magnetizing them together. With a fighter so dependent on their limbs like Azula, losing access to an arm or a leg is a slow march to death. Kuvira actually has more options the further away Azula is, such as curving metal sheets around Azula if she goes in the air, hiding underground if she can't and using the seismic sense, etc. It's like Azula trying to fight a not blind Toph
The point about lightning got me. Lightning will not be an issue in this fight. Given how long it takes Azula to generate lightning, Kuvira would interrupt it before she had a chance to fire given how quick she is. I think Kuvira wins high-diff.
I swear i think im the only person who thinks Kuvira could body Azula. Azula lost every fight she had with Katara. I genuinely believe Kuvira could beat Katara. The lightning is a factor, sure. But Kuvira isnt stupid enough to allow Azula to get off a shot of lightning at her. She moves like a fairly well trained airbender while incorperating very precise and powerful earth and metalbending into it. Azula could stand against her. But i think Kuvira has the overall edge.

Kuzera all day. She took out an Avatar on more than one occasion and is very tactfully aware and smart. Yeah sure Azula can lightning bend, but she is easily outsmarted. Azusa’s more of an ambush fighter, and her ego about being the best will take her out. Kuzera can use earth and metal, and she can take on more than one opponent while easily taking them out when they use multiple elements.
Azula took on aang a more skilled fighter than korra. Korra has never won a 1v1. Aang has been a master since age 12. Azula was living in a war. Manipulated the biggest earth kingdom, Gave team avatar the biggest fear. Beat down the kyoshi warriors. N Took on Aang katara toph zuko all by her. self. Depends really. Firebending in Kuvira's time period is 70 years advanced from Azula's time period. That's the equivalent of a basketball player, MMA fighter, Boxer, from the 1940s to now. Are we picking any MMA fighter from 1993 vs an advanced MMA fighter in 2024? No we're not. Because the game, sport, style evolves. And stuff that was unheard of/advanced in the 1940s or even in the 1990s is standard today. Kuvira comes from a time period where Lightning bending is a 9-5 job, and benders like Mako can do it instantaneously, whereas Azula still needs to charge up. Kuvira wouldn't give her the chance to do that. The moment Azula starts moving her hands, Kuvira isn't going to stand there waiting to deflect, she'd just quickly bind Azula's wrists and then the fight is over. Or she's put up a steel barrier to ground the lightning. Metalbending IS a counter to lightning bending, among other things because it nullifies lightning and would send it into the ground. If it came down to it, Kuvira would likely surprise Azula with her steelbending for long enough to bind her hands or her eyes and then she has no obligation to let her go, and the fight is over. Azula's lightning is nullified by Kuvira using steel, which would just conduct the electricity into the earth, which is her best element anyway :3 And Kuvira's dodged fire from The Avatar before as well as from advanced benders. That in addition to Azula's tendency to get annoyed/frustrated easily, and Kuvira's tendency to trash talk, it wouldn't take much for Kuvira to get into Azula's head, as well as with a style she's never seen before, and keeping her binded and grounded. Do NOT underestimate the fact that Kuvira's 70 years into the Future. That's 70 years of bending advancements. Azula is like the best fighter in the 1940s, and Kuvira is one of the best fighters in the 2020s. You aren't picking someone from the 1940s against someone in the 2020s for obvious reasons. That and Earth-Bending by its nature is meant to nullify firebending. So it's not just that Kuvira has a stylistic advantage, she's also 70 years ahead of anything Azula considers possible or advanced. Azula's good at being adaptable, but there's a difference between being able to adapt to the skills of your time, and adapting to the skills that are 70 years ahead of you. I don't think Azula would adapt to someone so advanced quick enough for the fight to already not be over, especially because it's things she's never seen nor would she know to expect it. Ultimtely there's nothing Azula can throw at Kuvira that she hasn't seen before, or doesn't know about. Being 70 years into Bending advancements IS a huge advantage in that regard. But Kuvira has several things she can throw at Azula that she's never seen before, and those are the things that would immobilize her in ways that end the fight before it truly begins, or before she can truly get going. The moment Kuvira wraps Azula's limbs in steel the fight is over, no matter how skilled she is. You also bring up Republic City being an "Advantage" for Azula because she's outside and can move around... but on the flipside you're basically saying a METALBENDER in a METROPOLIS surrounded by Earth and metal and structured buildings is at a disadvantage? Gonna have to disagree, Azula trying to fight Kuvira in a City is like Superman trying to fight someone in a room full of kryptonite. Gonna give the edge to Kuvira here and in general.
Why do so many people make the point that Katara was necessary for her and Zuko to win and that Zuko would be screwed without her? Zuko saved Katara. No Katara means that Azula doesn’t shoot lightning at her, so Zuko doesn’t get hurt jumping in front of her to redirect it.

The difference between them is that Azula is likeable even though she's a villain making you want to watch her over and over. And on Kuvira, every time I see her I hate her, my blood boils when I see her.
It's true that Metal is very conductive to electricity. And the thing is kuvira has a lot of flaws that Azula can immediately exploit,I'm not sure if Avatar is advanced enough to know all about metal since metal bending wasn't something someone needed to know that had earth as it had been deemed impossible until toph,but once Azula finds out That metal can heat up, she's gonna probably burn kuvira in her own armor. I'm not sure if this is possible I'm literally still in grade 8 but burning someone in their own suit of armor is effective highly brutal and will make kuvira more vulnerable since now she has to remove her armor and bend the metal without wearing any of it which is a huge advantage for azula

I think that in a hand to hand combat, they would be very close with Kuvira coming on top in the end of course, but Metal bending is just superior to fire and Lightning, I mean, kuvira can easily shield herself from flames and can ground currents with enough understanding of electricity, not to mention her incredible movility and her ability to mess with her opponentt's ground, making them struggle to even stand, so Azula wouldn't have it easy, I think that Azula is better than Kuvira in strategy and the ability to read people, because Azula knew always what the people around her was thinking and could easily manipulate them, as long as she wasn't hallusinating of having a meltdown... whereas to Kuvira took some time before she could tell she was been betrayed by the goons of the story, Bolin and the Rich guy and then his asistent; so Azula would win a war against Kuvira from the general's seat, but Kuvira would win a 1 vs 1 "Agni kai"

I've seen so many korra fans say "aang and his team never faced villains as advanced as korras villains" that is true but the one thing about avatar the last air benders characters is that they were super adaptive so regardless of how advanced the threat is in the future I feel like the old characters would have adapted to over power even the new villains
Well you see, lightning for azula is pretty long to shoot out, so really kuvira has the edge on strategy, knowledge, agility, decisive and can use the ground to stall azula as much as she can. Also kuvira can literally use the metal to strap on azula and throw her around constantly until azula gets dizzy and can no longer fight.
Kuvira was able to mostly keep up with Korra at her peak, not to mention Kuvira would only need to bind one of Azula's limbs to gain a permanent advantage in the fight. Azula can't exactly firebend a metal cuff off of her, she'd melt her damn arm or leg off. I don't think any amount of agility is going to help Azula dodged those sheets of metal flying at her considering Kuvira can just redirect them mid-air. All in all, a firebender is actually probably in the worst position to fight Kuvira since the best way to defend against those sheets of metal would be to block them, something any other bender would have a much easier time with.
Korra seems more grounded in how the characters themselves move around. Obviously because it's going for a different style. It would be an awesome fight either way.
It's so weird seeing how little the show cared about bending lore in Korra. Earthbenders fighting like water benders, long range Metal bending telekinesis; they just stopped caring.
Azula won this high diff. She literally grew up in a war, and she’s literally the devil herself. Kuvira took advantage of ba sing se being fallen. That says everything. Also, Azula’s battle IQ, agility, and flexibility are quite unmatched. Not to mention that Azula will just toast Kuvira’s metal with her lightning-bending, lol. Knowing Azula’s ruthlessness and having no remorse says it all. “Sane Azula” would be just too much, even for Prime Kuvira to keep up with.
We already know that azula can be restrained and that literally takes her out of the fight, putting her into a fight with somebody that professionally restrains people. And you still give her the win is crazy
Kuvira held her own against an adult reincarnation of Aang who mastered all four elements before learning how to metal bend. I think that counts for something. Plus she had a giant robot with a spirit cannon.
It's 100% Azula. The fact that she is the only one known with Blue Flames, not as sub-bending style, but just part of her normal bending, shows just how baseline powerful she is. Azula with a clear head and a couple more years experience would be able to take any bender in the world on and have a good chance at winning.
I agree Azula probably wins, but I honestly think it's close. Azula's best advantage his her agility, but Kuvira is also a mobile fighter. And Azula often fights in metal armor, which could honestly give Kuvira the win.
You also forgot that Azula has the edge for psychological combat. Azula was always one step ahead of everyone on they psych and political playing field up until she was betrayed by her two best friends that she thought were ride or die for her. Kuvira couldn't predict that an imprisoned Verrick would rather blow himself up and a last epic F you than knuckle under and do what she wanted. Azula would have known to be more wary of Verrick, would have talked him over to her side as a mad genius like him would be infinitely useful, and she could supply him with whatever he wanted.
In real scenario, Knowing Azula she won’t go one on one Kuvira since She knows there is resistance against Kuvira in Earth kingdom itself she will capitalise that. If Kuvira lock her using metal bending she may use cracked metal bender to release her.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I think Kuvira is capable of beating Azula. Besides her skills as an earthbender, Kuvira has a very unique way of using metal as a weapon going for small size attacks rather than massive offensives ( as earthbenders normally do). Firebending does not provide any defensive capabilities against a flying razor coming your way. Moreover Kuvira is the only characther (other than bloodbenders) we see using her bending to directly affect people's bodies and movements (using metal plates around limps). Even Korra as the Avatar had trouble protecting herself against Kuvira.

There is no world in which Azula beats Kuira. Kuvira has all those qualities that you mentioned; cunning, strenght, military training and adaptability, but with more experience and control of her emotions. As soon as Kuvira strts getting the upperhand or even starts facing her equally she would loose her nerve.
Azula for the win, her manipulative tactics along with fighting skills would throw Kuvira off her game. She'd probably use her past trauma to get Kuvira to lose control and take her down with pure skill.
Kuvira for my money. Doesn’t matter is metal conducts electricity, if you can’t land a direct hit it doesn’t make any sense. At the end of the day, it’s all about who is the better strategist.
You got to realize the time difference. Azula aint ready for metal bending. She's never fought against it. Metal projectiles too is op, to say the least.
Every fight Kuvira participated in she had an advantage be it her first fight with korra where she was superior both physically and mentally, her fight vs suyin where she went to fight kuvira from a literal prison cell and the fact that kuvira was portrayed as a better bender and her last fight with korra she was in a literal metal playground with liquid metal too so i don’t think that those fights can be taken at face value rather with a grain of salt I doo agree that Azula has an edge in agility but if you put the fight in republic city and give kuvira the standard metal bender equipment she has to have the better mobility
Actually, zuko would've beaten azula if not for katara. Zuko was clearly winning until he took the lightning aimed at katara. True, he was only winning because Azula had gone completely insane but he still deserved that win. Just like how Vegeta deserved the win over frieza in DBS but had it stolen from him.

Kuvira as several "unearned" advantages in this fight, namely just the time she was born in. If you put Kuvira in Azula's time or Azula in Kuvira's and give them the same base knowledge...Azula washes Kuvira. Also, Kuvira had more time to develop as she was older. Take them at the same age and again, Azula washes.

Azula is fast, Kuriva is faster. Azula is more technical and but kuriva uses her surroundings much better. Kuriva does not stand out in terms of raw strength, Azula has insane lightning strikes during a short charge. Azula is stronger than her brother but weaker than katara because of blood bending. Kuriva is more “Tanky”. They’re on par with each other when Azula is in her “stable” state but Kuriva takes the throne because in short: Earth and metal bending can be used defensively and offensively😼🫶🏼.

I think kuvira takes this 8-9 times out of 10, TLOK characters are heavily underestimated, if you think about it kuvira is essentially a level headed azula of opposite elements who’s mastered not only earth but mental, I would lean towards azula taking it but kuvira knowing how to metal bend while also being so skilled and swift with her movements and strategy, I don’t see how azula would be able to resist only with fire bending, she has lightning too but I don’t think it would matter much in this case against someone so skilled and who could most likely stop her in the middle of charging her with mental clips/handcuffs, kuvira definitely wouldn’t be dumb enough to let her generate lightning, another thing to add is that azula is not mentally stable which impacts her skills heavily, her fight with zuko proves this.

She was slipping according to Zuko and was overall disoriented as she was having a mental break down which severely hindered her skill and precision. Azula fought sloppy throughout the entire fight due to her brain having a breakdown causing her to lose otherwise she would have won.
Going with Azula as flight is a huge advantage and she is extremely diverse. Azula also was at least seemingly the third best fire bender in the show only after Ozai & Iroh

Korra did probending because she liked their fighting style and could use it to better hers doesn't necessarily mean they were better that is based on the bender's ability during a battle. Toph still fights old school and is still the best Earth/Metal bender in the show hence why Korra wanted her to teach her not to get beat up. Tenzin also fights old school n did better against the red lotus than anyone else. The OG cast fighting style maybe traditional but how many persons from the New era can you say is good at their bending or even renoun masters ? Boelin is nowhere near a top 5 earthbenders nor can I call him a master Mako isn't at Zuko nor Azula's level of fire bending non of the Chi blockers seen in the LOK is better than Ty Lee . The best benders I can say in the new era would be Kuveira , Tenzin, Tenzin kids, Sui yeng ,Lin, Red Lotus, Amon, Tanrak , Eska and Desna and Korra . Idk what your definition of "master" is but it certainly isn't one that fits either show. Katara wasn't a master of water bending before becoming Aang's master, neither was Zuko (btw Mako is the only one to use the fire knife, same a Zuko).
Mako and Bolin are at the equivalent of pro boxers/ MMA fighters. Mako could use lightning like nothing by the time he was Zuko and Azula's age, and the Firefoxes are well known in Republic City, so they aren't fun of the mill fighters.
Mind you, Korra was trained by masters her whole childhood up to the start of the show, masters of traditional martial arts and masters of bending, so at what point is someone a master?
Tenzin is a special case, people keep ignoring the fact that dude is an Airbender. It doesn't matter what style he uses, people don't understand how to fight airbenders. That's why (the notion of gaining bending aside) Zaheer -as well as his martial prowess which is essentially MMA- was such a challenge, because he's using a bending that people just haven't faced.
To your mention of "talking about pro bending" that doesn't matter, that's part of my point. Pro bending is more boxing/MMA like, where the emphasis on quick, direct, and consistently effective/non-circumstantial attacks.
Also, it's very influential, being a primary sport event televised all over. You'll notice that even street thugs like those Korra chased fight in this manner, this is the basis of fighting in LOK, as opposed to the more flashy traditional moves of ATLA.
That all said, Bolin and Kuvira are the best examples of what I mean. You can see that typically earthbenders use stances that are low and firmly planted, with their feet flat as often as possible. However, in LOK earthbenders have much lighter footwork and only go into firm stances for heavy attacks, as again, the boxing-esque style is more prevalent.
This is especially highlighted with Kuvira.
Fun fact: Azula is one of the only female firebenders in both AtLA and LoK. Only other one i can think of is P'Li.
Meanwhile male firebenders include Azulong, Sozin, Ozai, Iroh, Zuko, Jeong Jeong, Dzao, Combustion Man, Chit Sang, Mako, other Iroh, Lightning Bolt Zolt. Even generic Fire Nation soldiers are usually male.

I think you're misunderstanding their fighting styles.
Azula is a proactive fighter, leaning on her rising positive jing to increase the pressure on her oppoonents to create opportunities.
Kuvira on the other hand is a very disruptive fighter who has mastered neutral jing. She isnt the first to strike, relying on brutal counters and tempo disruption to not let her opponents get into their stride. We see it when she restricts movements of the limbs with metal sheets and disrupts your stances with earth.
More importantly, Kuvira has a much simpler win condition. Azula has to incapacitate or kill kuvira with something that can overcome a metalbending masters defense while Kuvira needs to get a single metal band onto one of Azulas limbs. If its her feet, her fire jets and mobility are gone. If its hee hand, she loses half her ability to generate lightning. And since Azula can't track metal after it whizzes past her, she has to keep her head on a swivel to not get caught up.
Long range, kuvira has more time to evade her kightning. Close range, kuvira is packing her up.

But from what I see Kuvira is amazing, she follows the similar approach of fighting like Toph. She might be fighting in pattern like style but its simply because that move itself is versatile and fluid, I believe that in a one on one first encounter she’ll incapacitate Azula for sure, but not easily and if for any reason Azula escapes…
That’s where things start to get interesting, Azula is very versatile very adaptable and unpredictable, she will maneuver a means to suppress Kuvira’s abilities, she has no restraint no jurisdiction, and we are forgetting that the last time she lost, she did so by being restricted by Katara, if for any reason she goes against a formidable opponent like Kuvira, you should know that she learns from her mistakes, almost is not perfect, she will not be restrained not again so I believe she’ll escape when the odds are high against her and when ready she’ll strike, with the most precise and ferocious bolt right here👉🏻❤️.
Especially IF Kuvira restraints, she’s manipulated, and makes 10 moves before her opponent.
@@pereboseregodknows2018 the kind of restraint that Kuvira would employ is the bands around the limbs and magnetizing them together. With a fighter so dependent on their limbs like Azula, losing access to an arm or a leg is a slow march to death.
Kuvira actually has more options the further away Azula is, such as curving metal sheets around Azula if she goes in the air, hiding underground if she can't and using the seismic sense, etc.

Depends really. Firebending in Kuvira's time period is 70 years advanced from Azula's time period. That's the equivalent of a basketball player, MMA fighter, Boxer, from the 1940s to now. Are we picking any MMA fighter from 1993 vs an advanced MMA fighter in 2024? No we're not. Because the game, sport, style evolves. And stuff that was unheard of/advanced in the 1940s or even in the 1990s is standard today. Kuvira comes from a time period where Lightning bending is a 9-5 job, and benders like Mako can do it instantaneously, whereas Azula still needs to charge up. Kuvira wouldn't give her the chance to do that. The moment Azula starts moving her hands, Kuvira isn't going to stand there waiting to deflect, she'd just quickly bind Azula's wrists and then the fight is over. Or she's put up a steel barrier to ground the lightning. Metalbending IS a counter to lightning bending, among other things because it nullifies lightning and would send it into the ground.
If it came down to it, Kuvira would likely surprise Azula with her steelbending for long enough to bind her hands or her eyes and then she has no obligation to let her go, and the fight is over. Azula's lightning is nullified by Kuvira using steel, which would just conduct the electricity into the earth, which is her best element anyway :3 And Kuvira's dodged fire from The Avatar before as well as from advanced benders. That in addition to Azula's tendency to get annoyed/frustrated easily, and Kuvira's tendency to trash talk, it wouldn't take much for Kuvira to get into Azula's head, as well as with a style she's never seen before, and keeping her binded and grounded. Do NOT underestimate the fact that Kuvira's 70 years into the Future. That's 70 years of bending advancements.
Azula is like the best fighter in the 1940s, and Kuvira is one of the best fighters in the 2020s. You aren't picking someone from the 1940s against someone in the 2020s for obvious reasons. That and Earth-Bending by its nature is meant to nullify firebending. So it's not just that Kuvira has a stylistic advantage, she's also 70 years ahead of anything Azula considers possible or advanced. Azula's good at being adaptable, but there's a difference between being able to adapt to the skills of your time, and adapting to the skills that are 70 years ahead of you. I don't think Azula would adapt to someone so advanced quick enough for the fight to already not be over, especially because it's things she's never seen nor would she know to expect it.
Ultimtely there's nothing Azula can throw at Kuvira that she hasn't seen before, or doesn't know about. Being 70 years into Bending advancements IS a huge advantage in that regard.
But Kuvira has several things she can throw at Azula that she's never seen before, and those are the things that would immobilize her in ways that end the fight before it truly begins, or before she can truly get going. The moment Kuvira wraps Azula's limbs in steel the fight is over, no matter how skilled she is. You also bring up Republic City being an "Advantage" for Azula because she's outside and can move around... but on the flipside you're basically saying a METALBENDER in a METROPOLIS surrounded by Earth and metal and structured buildings is at a disadvantage? Gonna have to disagree, Azula trying to fight Kuvira in a City is like Superman trying to fight someone in a room full of kryptonite.

Why do so many people make the point that Katara was necessary for her and Zuko to win and that Zuko would be screwed without her? Zuko saved Katara. No Katara means that Azula doesn’t shoot lightning at her, so Zuko doesn’t get hurt jumping in front of her to redirect it.

I've seen so many korra fans say "aang and his team never faced villains as advanced as korras villains" that is true but the one thing about avatar the last air benders characters is that they were super adaptive so regardless of how advanced the threat is in the future I feel like the old characters would have adapted to over power even the new villains
Well you see, lightning for azula is pretty long to shoot out, so really kuvira has the edge on strategy, knowledge, agility, decisive and can use the ground to stall azula as much as she can. Also kuvira can literally use the metal to strap on azula and throw her around constantly until azula gets dizzy and can no longer fight.

Kuvira was able to mostly keep up with Korra at her peak, not to mention Kuvira would only need to bind one of Azula's limbs to gain a permanent advantage in the fight. Azula can't exactly firebend a metal cuff off of her, she'd melt her damn arm or leg off. I don't think any amount of agility is going to help Azula dodged those sheets of metal flying at her considering Kuvira can just redirect them mid-air. All in all, a firebender is actually probably in the worst position to fight Kuvira since the best way to defend against those sheets of metal would be to block them, something any other bender would have a much easier time with.
Korra seems more grounded in how the characters themselves move around. Obviously because it's going for a different style.

It's so weird seeing how little the show cared about bending lore in Korra. Earthbenders fighting like water benders, long range Metal bending telekinesis; they just stopped caring.
Azula won this high diff. She literally grew up in a war, and she’s literally the devil herself. Kuvira took advantage of ba sing se being fallen. That says everything. Also, Azula’s battle IQ, agility, and flexibility are quite unmatched. Not to mention that Azula will just toast Kuvira’s metal with her lightning-bending, lol. Knowing Azula’s ruthlessness and having no remorse says it all. “Sane Azula” would be just too much, even for Prime Kuvira to keep up with.
We already know that azula can be restrained and that literally takes her out of the fight, putting her into a fight with somebody that professionally restrains people. And you still give her the win is crazy
Kuvira held her own against an adult reincarnation of Aang who mastered all four elements before learning how to metal bend. I think that counts for something. Plus she had a giant robot with a spirit cannon.
It's 100% Azula. The fact that she is the only one known with Blue Flames, not as sub-bending style, but just part of her normal bending, shows just how baseline powerful she is. Azula with a clear head and a couple more years experience would be able to take any bender in the world on and have a good chance at winning.

You also forgot that Azula has the edge for psychological combat. Azula was always one step ahead of everyone on they psych and political playing field up until she was betrayed by her two best friends that she thought were ride or die for her.
Kuvira couldn't predict that an imprisoned Verrick would rather blow himself up and a last epic F you than knuckle under and do what she wanted. Azula would have known to be more wary of Verrick, would have talked him over to her side as a mad genius like him would be infinitely useful, and she could supply him with whatever he wanted.
In real scenario, Knowing Azula she won’t go one on one Kuvira since She knows there is resistance against Kuvira in Earth kingdom itself she will capitalise that. If Kuvira lock her using metal bending she may use cracked metal bender to release her.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I think Kuvira is capable of beating Azula. Besides her skills as an earthbender, Kuvira has a very unique way of using metal as a weapon going for small size attacks rather than massive offensives ( as earthbenders normally do). Firebending does not provide any defensive capabilities against a flying razor coming your way. Moreover Kuvira is the only characther (other than bloodbenders) we see using her bending to directly affect people's bodies and movements (using metal plates around limps). Even Korra as the Avatar had trouble protecting herself against Kuvira.

There is no world in which Azula beats Kuira. Kuvira has all those qualities that you mentioned; cunning, strenght, military training and adaptability, but with more experience and control of her emotions. As soon as Kuvira strts getting the upperhand or even starts facing her equally she would loose her nerve.

Every fight Kuvira participated in she had an advantage be it her first fight with korra where she was superior both physically and mentally, her fight vs suyin where she went to fight kuvira from a literal prison cell and the fact that kuvira was portrayed as a better bender and her last fight with korra she was in a literal metal playground with liquid metal too so i don’t think that those fights can be taken at face value rather with a grain of salt
I doo agree that Azula has an edge in agility but if you put the fight in republic city and give kuvira the standard metal bender equipment she has to have the better mobility
Actually, zuko would've beaten azula if not for katara. Zuko was clearly winning until he took the lightning aimed at katara. True, he was only winning because Azula had gone completely insane but he still deserved that win. Just like how Vegeta deserved the win over frieza in DBS but had it stolen from him.

Kuriva does not stand out in terms of raw strength, Azula has insane lightning strikes during a short charge.

I think kuvira takes this 8-9 times out of 10, TLOK characters are heavily underestimated, if you think about it kuvira is essentially a level headed azula of opposite elements who’s mastered not only earth but mental, I would lean towards azula taking it but kuvira knowing how to metal bend while also being so skilled and swift with her movements and strategy, I don’t see how azula would be able to resist only with fire bending, she has lightning too but I don’t think it would matter much in this case against someone so skilled and who could most likely stop her in the middle of charging her with mental clips/handcuffs, kuvira definitely wouldn’t be dumb enough to let her generate lightning, another thing to add is that azula is not mentally stable which impacts her skills heavily, her fight with zuko proves this.
Both are super technical, but Azula is so unpredictable when she's composed.

She was slipping according to Zuko and was overall disoriented as she was having a mental break down which severely hindered her skill and precision. Azula fought sloppy throughout the entire fight due to her brain having a breakdown causing her to lose otherwise she would have won.
Going with Azula as flight is a huge advantage and she is extremely diverse. Azula also was at least seemingly the third best fire bender in the show only after Ozai & Iroh

@@JXekil_I Still a war veteran who took over a city killed the avatar on a technicality and is in verse widely considered to be the third strongest firebender of her era. Also Toph is like 13 and is way above most earth bending masters so I dont really think age matters
