A very informative video. By the way, Buck Rogers was not alone in the church tower, there were a few more paratroopers with him. One of them was my friend Larry Lopes from Service Company, 506th PIR, 101st ABD. He also told me about shooting at the German vehicle that drove into the town square below them, but he remembered it as being an open top tracked vehicle. Larry and other paratroopers left the tower after a little while. About 30 minutes after they got down to the ground level, the round from the Holdy Battery struck the steeple.

Just got back home from visiting here on our way to Utah beach. You can really feel the atmosphere around the place! Inside the church with all the bullet holes still evident is amazing to see.

I have been fascinated by D-Day for over 50 years, since I was a child. I only got to see these places in 2004 for the first time. I have been back nearly every year since, and have in that time found Culoville, Hiesville, Colombiers and the Pratt site on my own. I wish I had videos like these to guide me in the last 15 years. I have stayed and eaten at nearly every B&B and restaurant in the area (L'Estaminet is my favorite). And I always pass by Holdy Boutique. In all these years I have never found out where the stairs to the steeple are!

l’Estaminet is a good restaurant. Le Roosevelt on Utah beach is less formal but good. If you mean the stairs to the steeple in Ste Marie du mont, I don’t know either , but they will be locked for security.

101 viewers liked this video as of Nov 4th 2020. I want to like it also but don’t want to mess with the numerology here. Just consider this missive as Like #102. Another great video!
