  • The Williams FW16, designed by Adrian Newey for the British Williams team, competed in the 1994 Formula One season. Williams secured the Constructor's Championship, with British driver Damon Hill finishing as the runner-up in the Drivers' Championship. Tragically, the FW16 was also the car in which three-time world champion Ayrton Senna lost his life during the San Marino Grand Prix that season. The car was powered by a Renault RS6 3.5 V10 engine and featured several design changes to comply with new FIA regulations.
Compared to its predecessor, the FW15C, the FW16 underwent passive evolution. Notable modifications included revised bodywork (such as a low-profile engine cover and taller sidepods), an enclosed driveshaft, and an innovative rear suspension wishbone design. Additionally, the car reintroduced mid-race refueling, a rule change for 1994.
Damon Hill drove the number 0 car throughout the season, while Ayrton Senna, David Coulthard, and Nigel Mansell shared the number 2 car. Despite its speed, the FW16 faced handling challenges early on, including a design flaw in the frontal section. The team made adjustments, such as adding bargeboards and modifying the airbox, resulting in the heavily revised FW16B for the latter part of the season. However, Benetton's B194 and Michael Schumacher dominated the first half of the year. Rookie test driver David Coulthard also had a role alongside former champion Nigel Mansell, who had IndyCar commitments.
