  • Please note! The torque for the crank arm bolt is 40Nm and not 50 Nm as I stated in the video. Thanks ‪@SearchMTB‬ for the information.
I made this video because I struggled with the task and also couldn't find much information online, so once I figured it (by trawling the internet and finding bits and pieces of information about it) I thought I would put it out there for others to be able to do it. I am not a trained mechanic (which will probably be evident from the video :).
    Tools used:
6mm Allen key to remove the battery (Apparently it is important to remove the battery when working on this area of the bike)
8mm Allen key to remove the crank
4mm Allen key to remove the chain guide
    Lock ring removal tool:
    www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B001...
(This tool wasn't 100% ideal for this, as explained in the video, but it did the job)
32mm socket and ratchet for this particular lock ring tool
Puller for chain ring: update to this - please try removing it by hand before buying the puller tool - someone commented that they could get theirs off by hand - I have never yet been able to do that but it seems it’s possible.

14mm socket and ratchet for this particular puller
Torque wrench for reinstallation of lock ring and crank
    Grease

Nice video but the "puller for the chain ring" is rarely needed in practice, I'm able to remove my own chain ring with just my bare hand and basically no force. It's not pressed in like the crank arms are, it's free once the lock ring is removed. Maybe if it's rusted that tool will be good, but some light hammer blows should take care of that too. Just saying try to remove without "chain ring puller" (flywheel puller) first before going to the shop and spending $20 or so :)

Hi. Thanks for the input. I tried everything to get my chain ring off before I bought a puller (including using a hammer🤣) - I bought the puller after seeing the guys at embn do it that way. However I will be sure to update the information so people try without the puller first - although I am assuming people are looking for a video as they haven’t been able to get theirs off either. Thanks.

Thank you for that video. My LBS did a poor job routing the derailleur cable and pinched it between the frame and the motor cover (crank side). Now I know how to proceed to fix this!

Liked the video, straight to the point. I was looking to remove the crank and sprocket on my Levo SL, the sprocket spider is secured by a spring circlip removed with the aid of a small pick or screwdriver, and a m5 clamping bolt.

Great video 👍 I watched it as I have bent the crank arm on my turbo levo and wanted to see how to remove and replace with a new one.
I have just checked and the torque setting for the turbo levo crank arm is 40nm.
I just thought I'd let you know as I would want to make sure all the torque settings were correct if it was my video 👍
Thanks for taking the time to make the video it was really helpful 🙂

Even our top bike shop couldn’t pop the lock washer off so my 36 tooth chain ring remains in the drawer. 😳 I’ve also seen other videos where they remove the ring (4 bolts), shift it and pull it right off.
After removing said bolts, we couldn’t do that either. Any ideas???

    • @charlottecunninghammtb
      @charlottecunninghammtb  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Henry Hester Hi Henry. Sorry for the late reply. That is the only 2 ways I can see of getting it off. Seems really strange that neither worked - has it been damaged in anyway?

Good news. I was able to force feed the stock ring past the tight plastic and easily install (with red Locktite) the new 36T gear and wow this thing flies. No spinning out!

Henry Hester that’s great you got it sorted. I might have to look at that for this bike as well after what you and John have both said. Do you have a part number for the 36 tooth chain ring by any chance?

    • @charlottecunninghammtb

John Williamson hi John - yes if you just want to take the chain ring off only you can take it off with the 4 bolts. I wanted to take the whole lot off to clean in behind it as the dirt had built up quite a bit. Information is scarce about how to do it and parts to buy so I once I got the information I put the video out there.

@@charlottecunninghammtb Charlotte, good to know as I just want to go from the stock 30 to a 32 or 34. I am wondering why they run a 30 stock as it spins out just over 22 mph, at least for me. Anyway thanks for doing the vlog as it will help me when mine gets filthy.
