Belmont and Wolcott, newspaper outlet. I delivered the tribune and sun times, and the Spanish paper, they supplied the bikes papers and facilities to wrap the papers. Thank you “Duke” and your son who’s name escapes me for teaching me about work! I will never forget my first job and the men that pointed us kids the right way and tought us hard work. My memory of growing up in Chicago.
Pouring drinks on the street, peeps walking around smiling, no one getting robbed, car jacked or in danger. I was a kid in 66 and remember these days and ask myself WTF happened!? Who effed us up so badly in such a short period of time!!
The year is off by one. The 1967 Chevrolet Impalas/Caprices, which appears in the video were not for sale at Chevrolet Dealers until September 29, 1966. Poppy Day was May 26th, 1966. This leads me to believe it is actually May of 1967, not 1966. Just a thought.
IIRC, Western and Grand is the location where there was once an old WW II Stuart light tank located as a veterans' memorial. I believe it was moved elsewhere some years ago. I have a friend who lives on Huron near Western and has for 45 years. The old Ukrainian Village area is now a fashionable place to live. I moved to Florida 39 years ago so what Chicago neighborhoods are "safe" is now unknown to me.
@@Diogenes-ty9yy No Chicago neighborhood’s are safe now, criminals have cars (and if they don’t they’ll take yours), and they know that if they are caught our Mayor and Cook county state’s attorney will do everything they can to make sure that they get back on the streets.
Thank you for keeping them Silent and NOT ADDING SOUND OR MUSIC. It preserves the real magic of Silent Film and doesn't distract from the actions.
I agree ... completely
I don't mind, that's what the mute button is for! But yes, for historical accuracy I agree.
He could do what NASS does and add natural street sounds of cars, horns people talking etc.
Blue 66 Impala 4 Door W/Vinyl Top, use to see Cars like that in my Hood when I lived down in the Chatham Section as a Child in the 60's.

May 26 was on a Thursday in 1966. It was on a Friday in 1967.

WW2 ended just over 20 years ago and was still fresh in peoples minds.
That what I was thinking too, and those VFW guys probably fought it WWII or the Korean War.
WW1? Their grand kids might be in Vietnam then
3:55 Girl in stripped shirt is pushing 70 now.
Time machine RIP Chevy Impala.
1:39 Holy Rosary Church to the left, looking north on Grand and Western Avenue. I used to live around there.
Western and Grand now? I don't think that would be a very good idea.

My dad was in Vietnam in 66
wow it's like a parallel universe.
This can't be 1966 because 5/26 was on a Thursday that year.
When Chicago was still American.
I'm sure the 1st Americans would take some issue with your statement.
Yep, now all we get are third world leeches.
Back when almost everyone drove a chevy.
A good amount of gas guzzling vehicles in 1966 as seen on the footage.
Petroleum is a natural, renewable resource.
@@jaminova_1969 Amen!!
Loved those old chevys
There's a opiate consumption problem there , I'd say.
Why did Americans stop wearing poppies for veteran's day
Because there's an app for that now.
When junkies caught on and started making junk with them.
The gas guzzler cars in this footage.
