I've been shooting archery and bow hunting going on my 48th yr. I'm a Bowhunters Safty Course Instuctor too ! I've been follow your videos and how you explain things is so down to earth and easy to understand ! Keep the Great Videos Coming ! Stay Safe & Healthy ! God Bless !
Perfect timing to help us get our minds on getting ready for this coming season. Just took my cross bow to have it serviced and string changed. Wanted to beat the rush at the shop, and have plenty of time to check my setup. Been following Ranch Fairy, and Draggin deer for awhile. Have learned a lot, and improved my distance & accuracy. Thanks
This is GREAT information for ALL Crossbow shooters. The "science" of constructing todays Crossbows is that a science. The ability to reach 500 fps is awesome but the Crossbow shooting 300fps will still kill an animal, that said the more you learn the safer we will be. Great series of Videos.
I used to do this all the time with my compound. Not as much now that I've switched to crossbows. Age thIng, lol. I have found, 90% of my arrows are knocked correctly. If you notice they usually put the offset color vane on whatever advertisement/name they put on The bolt. Most quality, keyword, quality bolt manufacturers are good about this. But this videos worth doing for sure. Just for the couple that might be off. Thank you for ur effort on putting out a quality video.
If you need to nock tune and you use lighted nocks, they seem to be harder to turn and index compared to a standard nock. There is a weight difference lighted vs. standard of about 20 or so grains lighted heavier. If you have a grain scale, you can weigh your lighted nock-insert combination and make an equal weight standard nock that will closely match. Take a birdshot shotgun shell and cut it open and use the shot pellets inside of the standard nock glued in with rtv adding pellets and weighing until you get a matched weight. Fishing splitshot will also work but need to be very small. End result should be a factory nock that weighs the same a your lighted nock of choice and is easier to test and tweek with.
Awesome video, I just got a KI Diesel X crossbow and love it. How do you like the 390 grain KI Hypr bolts? Mine seamed like the tail was wobbling when I shot them even though they grouped ok. Got some 400 grain Barnett headhunters from Walmart and they shot much better and grouped good. I was looking at the Black Eagle Executioners but that may be to big a jump from 390 grains to 426 grains.
Glad ya like it! I usually rebuild my HYPR arrows (remove insert, add 110 gr insert and nock tune) and shoot them with 150 grain heads. The setup with a lighted nock is right at 500 grains…so don’t be afraid to jump up in weight!
Great advice, I have 2 Centerpoint crossbows, Wrath 430 & Amped 425, the Centerpoint bolts have glued in Nocks. I purchased killer instinct bolts, but they are lighter (270 grains with no point, vs 300 grain on the centerpoint bolts (again no point). So they'd be total 400 grain or 370 grain with 100 grain field point or broadheads. My question, do you think 370 grain bolts are too light (they shoot awesome) ? The Amped 425 is rated "up to 425 fps", but only shooting 400 with the 400 grain bolts.
Don’t go below min arrow weight and shoot what you’re confident in. I personally like something 500 ish up to 550, but if you have a setup shooting awesome and you’re confident in it…hunt on brother 🤘
@@draggindeeroutdoors I lost a fletching off one of my 22-in bolts and I gave it a try. Nock high tears no matter what I did. I think what I would need to do is cut the bolts shorter and see if that helped, but it might be unavoidable that you just get a nock high tear because of the velocity and the method of a standard crossbow. Might be different with your bow that has the enclosed rail
I’ve done similar videos in the past, you’re right. But I wanted to do another based on the questions I often get, hopefully this one clears up the items other videos may have lacked.
Got a question for you. I am new to the crossbow game. I see you are setting paper some distance away from the crossbow and when i paper tune my bow i set it at about 10 feet. I do this to see how the arrow leaves the bow. Is there a different logic used when paper tuning the arrows when it comes to crossbow?
By the way, thank you for your content. I injured myself this year and unable to use my compound bow so having to learn the crossbow game. I'm 100% in agreement with the way Troy sets up his stuff. Actually had interviewed him myself for my TH-cam channel about 2 years ago. Keep up the great work you doing!
Yup same logic, just less human element obviously so it’s easier. I always do 5 yards for my crossbow paper tune simply because that’s what Troy recommended. If you’ve done it on a vertical bow, crossbow will be a piece of cake for ya 🤘
I saw a video here on TH-cam about finding the spine. He used a pipe clamp and it really works!! I went and checked my new vertical arrows a marked it and started there for my nock tuning (bare shaft)... Bullet holes or damn close right off the bat. Next were my xbow arrows... I had some in the practice pile... I checked them, refletched and they "suddenly" were hitting bullseyes. User name is "mat in texas" and the link th-cam.com/video/jiiY4kEUYfA/w-d-xo.html
Dude you just simplified this process so even a noob like me can grasp it. Thank you so much! 👍👍👍
Awesome, glad I could help!!

Been doing this for a ling time thanks to you and Troy. Very good information, that WORKS!!!
Thanks, Adam! Hopefully a few others have the same success you and I have had with nock tuning!

This is a FANTASTIC tip 🤘🤘
Anytime you add weight to the back of the arrow it will affect the tune more so than the front. Your reducing FOC.
For glued in Knox use compressed air in a can from the office store. Spray down in the shaft in the arrow looking aqua pull out.
What?
He's freezing the glue that holds a knock in. It's a good idea.
Thanks iaorana oe from Tahiti God bles
Thank you!
Thanks.

How do you remove nocks that are glued into carbon arrows/bolts??
Try heating them with hot water and see if the glue loosens up
I have a 405 fatal x and want lighted knocks
Any suggestions?

Have you ever tried bare shaft paper tuning with a crossbow?
I have not and I’ve been asked this quite a bit. Have you? If so…did it work?

I’ve seen this and want to try it! Seems legit
@@draggindeeroutdoors it was EYE OPENING! Just the tiniest bit of rotation one way or the other makes the arrow bend to the side.
