The paper method is all my set up does....explains why they leave that chunk of paper everytime (very few) I’ve had to get a tooling touched off. Thanks for this, sir. 🤘
Good training. There are many ways to setup your geometry offset page. We use tool#1 as zero that way the other tools represent the difference in length. Such as a boring bar that is 3" longer than tool #1 shows up on your setup page as 3.000.
no.... currently working wih fanuc, but i want to shift my job and that company requires mazak control exp currently i m working in gear manufacturing industry now i have even started taking knowledge of cnc turning and grinding gear hobbing doesnt give any vast or deep knowledge of programming as compared to turning very curious to learn mazak control thankss....for ur positive approach sir..
So when doing a set up you touch off all your tools first (x and z) THEN you set your G54? And say I already set my G54 but then after, had to re touch off my tool #1 for some reason... would that move my whole G54?
Yes. That is correct. Once G54 is set it does not change even when changing, adding or replacing a tool. G54 tells the machine where the end of your stock is Touching off the tools tells the machine where the tool tip is
how do you set the X axis on a diamond, front of part ,pocket insert? An insert that will be making angles in the front of the part such as a pocket die?
hi, thanks for your videos they are really helpful to an apprentice like me, I was wondering if you could make a video talking about work offsets on a lathe?
Thanks like you video I purchased a Hardinge cobra 65 lathe with Fanuc 21-t controller I can move all the axes but don't know how to get the spindle to turn can someone help me with that?
yes i have a question do you have to do the same" cutting "method for x assignment for each tool ? cause it looks like if you have to set the offsets for many tools you may end up with a scrapped workpiece at the end , and it also look like it will be the same for the z axis offsets if you use the " cutting " method.
Yes all the tools you are going to use should be set in Z and X. Also it's worth checking to make sure the tool offsets have been cleared. Although setting the geom should clear the tool offsets.
hi x axis offset is wrong that job may be 18 mm od but u set only x0.18 which means in correct. right one x18.00 and measure u here 18 mm given as example
Hi Tom , if we use tool number 1 to set up the workshif after touched off , does this mean the z value in tool geometry of tool 1 equal the z value in workshift ? thanx
trieu pham No, that is not correct! You're very 1st approach at setting ANYTHING should be to set your "work station" (example: G54). Setting your G54 will then give you values on each of your tools in Z and all tools will now be, in today's generations terms, paired. Also stop using papers to set your tools. In Aerospace this is a very amateur move. Use a .001 shim. The shim offers protection to your contact area's and you get a very smooth, slick feel once your about tool make contact.
Thank you Tom for your clear and helpful videos. Really help me a lot on my way to CNC LATHE programming and operation. If you may, can you make one that explains the steps of establishing TOOL 1 as the MASTER TOOL and the succeeding T2, T3 as the other tools that are used for a particular part. I've been successful in setting the MASTER TOOL at G54, but I encountered some errors in the locations of X and Z during verification of T2 and T3 using MDI mode. Many thanks to your uploads. Mar B.
the easier way to do this is to write the following program in MDI mode. •G97 S4000 M03 •T0101 M06 •G54 M09 •G00 X-150 Z-300 This program automatically measures tool offset and sets a zero point.
These videos are really helping me out at my job. Best instruction cnc videos I ever saw
I THINK THIS IS THE BEST ONE AVAILABLE IN TH-cam AS OF NOW.... THANKS A LOT TOM STIKKELMAN!!
The paper method is all my set up does....explains why they leave that chunk of paper everytime (very few) I’ve had to get a tooling touched off. Thanks for this, sir. 🤘
The newer machines I use, we do alot of iner & outer dia cuts,
So pin gauges really help in getting your Zero points!!
Thanks 4 sharing.
Thanks Tom you dont know how much this video made my work eazy cuz my supervisor dont wana share anything with coworkers

you are very excellent teacher god bless you
good video Tom... thanks for the upload. Sometimes you get too used to using a q setter and forget how to set offsets...
Thank u Tom this video helped alot
any beginner machinist will easily fall in love with u after watching these video......thanks.....
You're very kind. Thanks for watching
thanks..
sir can u provide any video tutorial on mazak control....
its quite different from fanuc and i m not getting any rock solid info of it from google
+Akash Gurav Are you using the Mazatrol side?
no.... currently working wih fanuc, but i want to shift my job and that company requires mazak control exp
currently i m working in gear manufacturing industry
now i have even started taking knowledge of cnc turning and grinding
gear hobbing doesnt give any vast or deep knowledge of programming as compared to turning
very curious to learn mazak control
thankss....for ur positive approach sir..
Thanks to this video I finally got it. Thanks.
Thanks Tom, Very useful video to apply
Hi Tom can you show us how to set an internal tool like boring bar and threading tool please, Thanks
the best teacher tom
Video suggestion to touch off carbide/flat bottom drills.
thanks ! you're the best i say hello from colombia!
Well done 👍🏾
thank you mate, very well explained
+Draco Rodriguez Thank you Draco.
thanks tom,,,, i requested you do that,, i appreciate the time you took to do it,, all great videos,,, keep'em coming
ALUMATRIX Thanks ALUMATRIX.
tom thanks for the video, very helpful and i learned a lot. thanks again
Many many many thanks Tom!
Can you make a video from start to finish setting up a part, a tool and performing a simple operation like facing. That would be so helpful!
Thank you sir for all your help to us
Thanks very much Tom.
everything better video sir more videos is uploaded.. thanks Sir
thanks for video. but how can we set geometry offset for other inserts like threading, boating, OD or ID grooving.??
Many thanks Sir.
Thanks
Thanks, very nice explanation sir. but could you also show setting of multiple tools on a job with different process.
Good video
Thanks a lot ! Good video .
thanks!
I presume its the same process for zeroing a boring bar? but instead you just a hole inside and measure that?
very helpful 👍
Are these methods valid for each kind of tool we use on a lathe?
Hello bos...if you set tool offset, work offset need to set or not?
So when doing a set up you touch off all your tools first (x and z) THEN you set your G54?
And say I already set my G54 but then after, had to re touch off my tool #1 for some reason... would that move my whole G54?
Yes. That is correct.
Once G54 is set it does not change even when changing, adding or replacing a tool.
G54 tells the machine where the end of your stock is
Touching off the tools tells the machine where the tool tip is
Awesome! Thank you SOOO much for the help and for all your videos. I recommend them to EVERYONE!
Excellent!!!
Nice one
Precutting not necessary. Just add the difference of the shim to the g50.
Hi is this the same principle on a puma Daewoo cnc lathe?
Mori Seiki😍
very help full, thank you Mr Tom, any software i can use to improve skill.
How many axis is this machine
how do you set the X axis on a diamond, front of part ,pocket insert? An insert that will be making angles in the front of the part such as a pocket die?
how will you get the x value by computing it manually? thankyou
tom what cnc lathe is good for me to start out with
Sir , do I need to change tool offset for different jobs
hi, thanks for your videos they are really helpful to an apprentice like me, I was wondering if you could make a video talking about work offsets on a lathe?
middlemanclayton1 I will do it soon. Thanks for watching.

how do you setup the z when use g54 or g55 for offset .pls
Hi tom
Good job
Can you plz upload yr video on macro call
We use same method if our machines Scanner is not working ..anyway can u plz upload how to touch live tool .. cutter
hi x axis offset is wrong that job may be 18 mm od but u set only x0.18 which means in correct. right one x18.00 and measure u
here 18 mm given as example
what about a boring bar?
Hi Tom , if we use tool number 1 to set up the workshif after touched off , does this mean the z value in tool geometry of tool 1 equal the z value in workshift ?

to make, Lol.
Do you have a video for setting a Boring bar, or ID tool?
I will do one soon. Thanks John.
How do you set Z 0 on a mazak?
thanks
how to set next tools ? tool 2 ,3 etc..
Thank you Tom for your clear and helpful videos. Really help me a lot on my way to CNC LATHE programming and operation.

T0101 should be zero and u should be setting that as workshift
Not really. In theory you can use any tool as Z zero.
Nope it really depends
🙏
How to set tool for Gang CNC Lathe?
The x and z axis are flipped 🤦♂️
the easier way to do this is to write the following program in MDI mode.
•G97 S4000 M03
•T0101 M06
•G54 M09
•G00 X-150 Z-300
This program automatically measures tool offset and sets a zero point.
Stupid idiot
This program will automatically fire you.
lol
