Such a relaxing watch. Great way to end my weekend before heading out on the workboat in the pouring rain in Seattle tomorrow. What you did here is every boy’s dream-project, but we didn’t have the tools or knowledge back then to pull it off. We used a lot of cardboard for our forts. They didn’t last long. But we got better through the years and graduated to used plywood and any scrap lumber we could find in the inner city. Hammer and nails, a handsaw, the sky’s the limit now! And we grew up, graduated high-school, met a girl. Moved away. Somehow building forts just slipped away in time. It’s the damn girl’s fault of course. Now I have to be a “man”. This sucks in a way, but fun too. One of my dreams was to meet the right girl, have kids (really hoping for a son), to teach how to build a proper fort. I’ve built houses and high-rise buildings, I could really make a nice fort now. But I never met the right girl, never had kids, and now I’m too busy at work to have much time for camping and the fun stuff. Plus I’m 61 now and my hips are shot. No more hopping around the woods anymore for me. This is why it’s so fun and nostalgic to watch you building what is basically a fort, but way more elaborate and refined. Love the stove and your shoveling dirt on the roof for insulation. I never made a dugout before but there’s four walls already insulated right there. Very cool. My main comment is to be safe with every move you make. An injury of any magnitude could turn into a disaster without help. And really take care of your back. Injuries there can easily become permanent, and your spinal condition can affect everything you do. Tip: use heavy duty foil for cooking especially directly on coals. Nice place!
I watch some survival channel videos were there are at least 10 person in a group they don't even come close to build something like what you are building. They only focus on the money they're going to receive if they finish the game.😮

Я всегда считал, что на склоне землянка не очень хорошо, потому что, вся вода с горы пойдет через землянку. Она по любому в землянке собирается, для этого делается водоотвод. Может быть склон и лучше для водоотведения. Я не специалист. Это размышления. Понятно , что часто выбор обусловлен тем что есть. Близость воды, строительного материала, топлива, солнечного света, защиты от ветра.
This is a cool looking shelter, and I'm sure it would be easy to heat and keep warm, but on video, that ground looks way too high in sand content for me. I wouldn't trust it not to collapse. Plus, a good heavy rain storm, or some heavy snow melt, and the ground water is gonna come through that like it's not there. You could waterproof the hell out of the roof and base logs, and in the spring, it'll very likely still be full of water, and that seepage might even help cause the walls to at least partially collapse. It looks badass, I just wouldn't have the balls to sleep in it without bracing the walls, and I wouldn't plan on it being there for any length of time.

It took a lot of time to prepare materials. If everything was at hand, it could be done in 1 day. But it took 3 days.

What is going to stop the rain and water that runs down the hill from running to his shelter?
Can you explain why the plastic on the ground. I have never seen this done this way.
