    Get ready for an unbelievable experiment as we take the Hydraulic Press Channel to new heights! In this video, we harness the power of bananas to create a high-speed fluid stream that cuts through a watermelon and a wooden plank like a hot knife through butter. You've seen waterjet cutting videos, but never like this!
    Watch as our hydraulic press crushes bananas, forcing them through a tiny 0.4mm hole, turning them into a powerful banana waterjet cutter. We put this unconventional cutting tool to the test, demonstrating its surprising strength and effectiveness. Will the banana stream be able to slice through a watermelon and a wooden plank? You have to see it to believe it!
    Don't miss out on this one-of-a-kind hydraulic press experiment. If you're a fan of waterjet cutting, hydraulic press challenges, or just love seeing everyday objects pushed to their limits, this video is for you! Be sure to like, comment, and subscribe for more incredible hydraulic press adventures.

    Pressure is a crazy thing!
    I once visited a hydro power plant and the plant manager explained to me that in the feed pipe that we were standing next too there was so much pressure that if there were a pinhole sized leak that the water would have enough cutting power to chop my hand off!

    • @PhilG999
      @PhilG999 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I used to work in the Hydraulic and Pneumatic industry. A pinhole in a 10,000psi line will do a LOT of damage! A friend used to be in the US Navy and trained on submarines. He told me about being taught how to find a leak in a Superheated Steam (SHF) line. You could hear it but not see it. The procedure was to slowly walk down the corridor waving a broomstick in front of you and when it cut the end of it off you found the leak!

And today you have really stepped it up a few notches with a powerful banana-powered "water jet" to lay waste to a watermelon! When they cut a material with a water jet machine they may use a cutting aid in the water, like powdered garnet, to help with the cutting process, depending on the hardness of the material. It basically gives the water jet the same properties as a grinding or cutting wheel, without the sparks and dust. This would partly explain why the fruit works better than plain water, though instead of the fruit being "more abrasive", I think it has more to do with pulverized banana having more density and weight than plain water.
    EDIT: and the putty just comes out too slow to really do anything, because it doesn't have enough water in it.

    • @itoibo4208
      @itoibo4208 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I assume, being thicker than water, the banana can get more pressure built up in the nozzle as well.

    • @edwhatshisname3562
      @edwhatshisname3562 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@itoibo4208 I think what allows it to cut is the speed at which the liquid is moving, but also the weight and density, or hardness. Which is why adding an abrasive like garnet powder makes the jet a lot more effective. It would be interesting to see what happened if they were able to add really fine particles of sand to the water, though I think the sand would have to be suspended in the water the whole time, and not allowed to settle on the bottom, so they would maybe need a pumping system to keep the water and sand mixture moving as it was being compressed by the piston.
      If the material is too thick and moves too slowly as a consequence, then it won't be able to cut either.

    Well now I have to wonder what you could slice through if you blended up some bananas with some fumed silica.

    You actually tested this, nice. This really puts into perspective just how much force was behind the jets in the last video.
    For some reason, I have a desire for a banana and watermelon smoothie.

    You could perhaps try it with various metals starting with very weak metals working your way through to stronger metals. How many PSI is it maxing out at?

    Answering that age old question, can a banana cut a watermelon? Yes...with surgical precision.

    The banana experiment gives me ideas for some new anti-personnel weapons. Holy crap.
