*Excuse confusing language around towing weight and MTPLM, your safe towing capacity of your car should always exceed the MTPLM. Apologies for badly worded caption
Great advice, when we were looking for our new caravan we knew exactly what we wanted, but had a good look round anyway, and funny enough bumped into some other youtubers whilst doing so for a second opinion!!!!!. Great vlog guys as always.😀
@heyholetstow spending a lot of time on the road, as I do, I notice it. I suppose I'm only making assumptions that they're new towers, when you see that they're young folk driving.
We as a family started with a Dandy camper, when the children were young then moved onto a tourer caravan. Luckily we had cars that were big enough to pull them and my husband had driven lorries and was and is a bus driver, we still have the caravan. If you do it this will change you, especially if you have children, I question what these 2 are looking for, maybe a static? We have a toilet and can have a shower also, they may need to look at hotels!
Yes this should be the 1st check and even if you car can tow xxxxkg as stated by the manufacturer. You should always consider the 85% rule for safety which alot people don’t adhere too. I’ve always kept in this guide lines for 32 years apart from once when I bought my first twin axle in 2004 which I was towing a Bailey twin axle with a Volvo V70 which although could tow my van as recommended by Volvo at the time was roughly about 92% of kerb weight. Going downhills was not safe at all so needles to say I then changed to a Volvo XC90 which was far stable. For past 12 years now I’ve had LR Discovery’s and currently have a 2 tonne Buccanner so need a good stable tow car for that. I would never tow a caravan to the maximum limit. The Caravan Club website is one of the best for checking your car against Caravan absolutely superb. Coming back to the manufacturers recommended towing capability Land Rover say my car has a towing capacity of 3.5 Tonne but can you imagine towing that weight on a car weighing 2625kg would be scary with a tonne over the kerb weight behind you.
The biggest mistake for me was removing the +E test. I took it and im not bitter having to pay it. But it was good to be taken out with a pro towing for the first time. going through all the check etc. Layout. This is so difficult to get right. There is ALWAYS a compromise in a caravan. Always. You always want more space. more work surface, More sofa, more sun etc.
Ha, next time I’m going to get a car that can tow anything (probably can’t afford it) and a caravan that is made for more people (definitely can’t afford it)
Your caption is back to front ... "The safe weight your car can tow should not exceed the MTPLM of your caravan..." No, your towing capacity MUST exceed the MTPLM of your van, otherwise you're towing illegally!!!! 😮

Great points guys, really good vlog as always.
Thank you
Good advice about towing , definitely something people forget about !!
I bet there are loads of people towing with a car that isn’t really up to the job

Oh. I wouldn’t trust those vloggers as far as you could throw them 😂 thanks for watching! 😀
Interesting vlog and great advice. I had absolutely no idea about the things to consider when buying a caravan! 💕
Be helpful when you trade in the VW for a caravan 😀
Good tip regarding towing. I'd say that it seems the majority of new towers are OVERCONFIDENT rather than timid when it comes to it.
Really? Cocky towers? It’s harder and simpler than it looks I think. Especially when you have eyes on you!

@@VolkswagenCamperAdventures the only thing I see is a lot of caravans (and cars) hogging the middle lanes and going a bit too fast
@@heyholetstow that's another bugbear of mine.
some great tip there guys👍🏻
Thanks

We thought we had but we’re a bit naive. Worth doing proper research
Absolutely as its safety aspect. Always think of safety first when towing especially with a family.
Great video guys
Thanks so much

yea, don't think the perfect van exists. Always a compromise or something that isn't quite right but we still love em :)

It only took us 3 caravans and 4 tow cars and still not 100% right

Is it? Will double check
Apologies. Badly worded. But hopefully you get the point
Would you consider this better wording? “GUIDE
THE MTPLM OF YOUR
CARAVAN SHOULD NEVER
EXCEED THE SAFE TOWABLE
WEIGHT OF YOUR CAR”

Hi hey Ho where is little ho ?
She crops up near the end. She said she didn’t want to be in it as has no advice on MTPLM or towing 😂
