holyyyyy shit you are a life saver. I spent 3 hours watching and taking note of the main video in slow motion and only got through the first 45 seconds. Great learning but this vid is a saver! You are why youtube exists!
I was really hoping that someone could make a tutorial video of his acoustic version!U're the man! Thanks a lot!!!! Hope that u can upload more!!!!! Thanks again!!!!
You are a god, thank you so much for this video. I love that you like John Mayer so much! Personally I think that he is one of the best guitarists of our generation. This tutorial is perfect, thanks tons!
Best tutorial ! And mainly, you're the only man to make tutorial of special version song of John Mayer like this, "Belief" acoustic! Or "Your body is wonderland" grammy version.. Or Clarity VHO sessions.. again :) Obviously don't stop your vids. From France ! :)
Hey, totally right on the Csus2. He's barring it with his 1st finger and that is just a pinky flail I mistook for a fretting. That explains why he's fretting the C with his 2nd finger (I though he was having a Paul Gilbert moment). Good call on the vibrato too. I'll see about posting an annotation and fixing the tab. Thanks! Good feedback (but I disagree with the pick VS fingers. It can be done)
I'm well aware of that. I say it in the video do I not? If I was re-doing it today I'd do so with a pick but back then I was still in the everything with the fingers mindset. Now I'm hip to the best of both worlds.
Thanks for the video, your tutorials are always great! For the intro: I was wondering why you suggest swapping from 4th finger to 3rd finger for minor and major chords respectively? Is there a reason you can't just use the 3rd finger for both and avoid switching? Apologies if you answer this later or someone has already asked this!
Kiron Koshy I don't recall exactly why at this moment (if you give me a timestamp I could tell you) but it would be either because Mayer and his giant monkey fingers do it that way, or it leaves you open to the next fingering in an easier manner. In the end if you can make the chord transitions sound good and on time, whatever way you choose works the best for you is fine and good.
In terms of John's picking version, do you know what technique he's using to mute? Is he palm muting every time or is he muting specific strings with his left hand?
Thank for the lesson. Sadly i don't think anyone will be able to get any much fluidity out of this song using 2 finger plucking. You won't have the crisp attack or the consistant mute strums that really adds to the rhythm of this song in this version. In the beginning of the pre-chorus the Gminor he throws vibrato on the bottom 2 notes and the c Sus2 deally in the chorus he plays the 2nd on the g string. I envy John's thumbs so much :(
I like this one too man but just not really good at explaining it. I want to learn these specific versions but I wish you’d tell us which strings and frets to slide into instead of tabs. You’re a great player
Haha! :) Yeh good one. Hopefully with the feedback you have received on here you will adjust your length of time to explain the chunks of a song. :) Too long bro. Hey look! A tidal wave.
I love how you're also teaching the theory behind the chords. Thank you for that!
9 years later but just wanted to comment this is an excellent tutorial. Thank you.

I added an annotation for a change in fingering in the chorus. Same notes different fingering. It's at 14:30 or so.
Cheers!
Very good job ! Thank you

Amazing.Thank you very much.
Thank you so much! I learned a lot of stuff from that! :D
If the tabs were place in the corner would be great, in the middle is a bit distracting. but all and all its an excellent tutorial!
I cant believe Luke Wilson just taught me a John Mayer song.
