  • Mike paints the calipers of his Mustang and find everything that can go wrong does.
Bleeding the brakes was not mentioned. There will be a follow up video for how to do this.

Lots of detail and thoroughness. I painted my calipers on the vehicle. Wrapped parts that had to be shielded with aluminum foil. Out of sight doesn't matter, and over spray can be reversed later with flat black.. I used regular paint on the front calipers (larger choice of colors) as they don't get that hot (it's a 5-speed manual). Rear drums I removed and used high temp paint (they do get hot-ter). Looks good, and no rusting which is nice when servicing two or three years later.

My favorite part was when you disassembled the brake calibers, cleaned them off, primed them, painted them red, then reassembled them back together. I never saw that coming! Great video! 👍🏻

I'm glad you appreciate my Hitchcockian, suspenseful level of story telling.

I look forward to a 12 -24 mo update to see how it holds up. Thats the important part lol as it would suck to have to do everything over again. for me I got luckily and stayed the night at a friends house who was helping me with it so I could wait the full 24ish hours for everything to dry and cure. One other thing that I just want to verify after removing the break lines (opening the lines so you can take it off the Calibers off ) are you not spoused to bleed the breaks? I am not saying you had to show us how as the focus of the vid was to paint the calibers, however a quick reminder mighte be justified.
If you dont need to bleed the breaks after the changes I am sorry for bringing it up, as I have been told both before , and as my grandfathers "idgit " I learned that even if it wasn't necessary it might be a good practice to take the safer of the 2 routs as if i messed up and made it worst I wouldnt get as kind as" Idgit.".. I could get the dreaded "dumb ass." (as I did more than once) Juts a humble suggestion is all I look forward to your updated Caliber pics and any new vids coming out.

Yes, bleeding the brakes is absolutely necessary, and I did do that, but cut it for time, and then neglected to mention it.

You could try huffing some paint remover to see if that brings your memory back. Banjo will love you for it!

Yeah... I heard the wood reference right before you mentioned it and laughed out loud when you did.😃

I'm thinking I'm going to do this for my mustang. The rotors got replaced with some really nice expensive black rotors that don't rust, and the calipers are the same old ugly rusty ones.

Nice! Note that I did it the hard way, because I was already taking the calipers off. If you don't need any brake work done, you can paint them on the car, and mask everything off.
However, the most critical part of the job is degreasing, which might be hard to do while they are attached.

@@MikeTheBackyardMechanic True...although I think I found a good use for those rolls and rolls of blue tape that i have stored up all there years
