I liked how his story developed. Rollo finally got what he always wanted: love, fame, respect and recognition. Even Charles seems to love him. I was kinda worried he was plotting to remove him later somehow, but i guess he finally found someone without ambition to replace him, someone he could trust. Nice change, from constant betrayal throughout the series.
And what's the most interesting is that both of men came from a very similar familiar enviroment: both were the scapegoat of the family, they had a quarrel with their siblings for power and they used to live under the shadow of a familiar more brilliant and famous than them (Rollo Ragnar; Charles Charlemagne). It's a shame they didn't develop their father-son like relationship, as I believe they came to respect, admire and love each other, since their love for gisla (Charles as her father and Rollo as her husband) was what binded them together.
I'm so happy for Rollo. His story was depressing as hell and finally his suffering paid off even if it meant betraying his dear brother. Thanks for compiling their scenes!!
Ragnar was too engrossed and inter twinned in his personal struggles and state affairs to even care about those around him, let alone Rollo. Rollo felt that much of his contributions and his close fealty to Ragnar even before the rise of Ragnar in the political sphere made Rollo feel left out and unimportant. Even when Rollo had revisited Scandinavia to ask for forgiveness and to pay penance, he consulted the bishop Saint Heahmund for prayer and comfort. This shows that Rollo really had gone on a long journey of transformation. From a berserker of tremendous fighting prowess, to a learned Duke of Normandy acclimatized to the Frankish political arena and finally to a civilized stately Duke that had embraced his new religion of the Franks.
"yeah, yeah great, i'm caesar, god bless paris and what not. Now if you don't mind, I AM IN FAIRLY DESPERATE NEED OF MEDICAL ATTENTION!" --- Rollo, probably
I think its worth acknowledging that Rollo is receiving these accolades not simply due to his prowess and gift for military tactics, but that he saved this city from invaders intent on theft, rape, and murder. This was a defensive battle for the Franks and Rollo was very much key to that defenses success. In that sense his actions, whatever his personal motives, were heroic to the many people whose lives he saved. More romantic than the actual history, but a nice thing to address in the show's narrative.
Rollo has always been searching for redemption, a place where truly belong to and above all, a family who would love him and cherish him and not his brother: he had found them in Frankia.
I don't think Rollo has ever looked this at peace - and it's really weird that it took him getting beaten to within a few inches of his life to get there.
I dont blame rollo. When you give everything to a cause a people and all of the love the praise goes to your brother. In fact no one seems to even pay attention to you or see you as someone of worth when you get that from someone else most are going to stay with those who acknowledge and openly show not just appreciation but adulation. The francs appear to truly be grateful for rollo. The emperor even of course there's always an ulterior motive with men with that kind of power but I truly believe the emperor truly appreciates rollo.
Not only appreciated: i really think that the Emperor loved him as the male son he didn't have and, i believe, he recognized himself in him, as both of them had to fight against their own blood to get their "kingdom" (Rollo Ragnar, Charles his older half-brothers and even stepnephews)
I' ve discovered this series only recently and I absolutely love Rollo and Gisla! And when charles helped him stand up, kissed him on his cheeks and proclaimed him Ceasar, i teared up. I adore this scene! Thanks for uploading these scenes!

Rolos family line is mine also.He became a christian and changes his name to Robert 1st. William the Conquerer was a descendant.Yes Rolo really was a real person.
Yes, Rollo was my 32nd great-grandfather. He is probably millions of peoples' 31st, 32nd and 33rd great-grandfather today, it's just you can trace the family line if you have a royalty or nobility in your family line.
Definitely loved how they brought status to Rollo after so many years. He was always good at heart. My favourite characters on the show are still Ubbe and Floki :)
He is ancestor to millions and millions of people today. He's my 32nd great grandfather (William the conqueror is my 27th great grandfather) Then my family line goes through Edward 1sts daughter, Elizabeth Plantagenet, but because they were all noble families until at least the 18th century, its possible to get a direct line. Millions of people don't have that direct line, but he'll still be their ancestor.
.......Gisella or Giséle was, according to Norman historical tradition, a Carolingian princess, daughter of the king of West Francia, Charles the Simple, and the consort of Rollo, founder of Normandy. The marriage would be part of the Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte that authorized the establishment of the Normans in Neustria in order to protect the kingdom from other possible Viking invasions. This treaty created the Duchy of Normandy.3 In the late 10th century, the chronicler Dudo de Saint-Quentin wrote that Rollo married Gisela after her conversion to Christianity upon his ascension as ruler of Normandy in 911. According to later medieval sources, Rollo treated Gisela cruelly. His father sent two knights to act as his support in Normandy, but both were executed by hanging on Rollo's orders. The marriage is not supported by contemporary written records or historical evidence. Frederuna in 907, making Gisela five years old at the time of the alliance treaty.
In s4e2, when rollo cut his hair to better approach the franks (and especially her), she laughed at him (although Gisla smiled briefly before that, implying that she liked what she was seeing and she appreciated him trying to adapt himself at her customs), because she wanted to humiliate him in order to avenge her compatriots he had killed and above all her pride wounded by her having to marry this man who attacked her beloved city and people and who might betray them, as she still didn't believe in his sincerity. But once Rollo in s4e4 spoke her language, convinced her of his willingness to protect Paris and that his feelings for her were sincere, Gisla cut her own to repent her cruelty towards him and to show him and all the frankish court that she was on his side, that the two of them were a couple and a team.
If you wouldn't have abandoned your brother, you would've become a King instead of a Duke. You abandoned everything for a bit of poom poom, which you could've snatched it for yourself anyways.
King of what? I never saw Ragnar giving credit to him for what he did for him: no honor, no title, no wealth. Charles instead did: that's why Rollo did not mind staying below him: because his father-in-law truly treated like an equal and rewarded him for his actions.
I believe it may be completely misinterpreted. He inability to ride a horse may refer to small Nordic ponies at the time. A big thoroughbred could easily carry Halfthor (The Mountian) who is giant even by modern standards.
No, Queen of heaven was a concept based around the worship of a female goddess in biblical times, and that pagan practice was later incorporated in the christian church by the exhaltation of Mary.
Well, I'm amnostic but all my family and most people of my country is catholic and I know many people that prayed to Mary for their sins. The virgin can't forgive a sin, but she can intervene on behalf of you.
"Well, I'm amnostic but all my family and most people of my country is catholic and I know many people that prayed to Mary for their sins. The virgin can't forgive a sin, but she can intervene on behalf of you." Intervene? I guess the same Jesus who forgave His murderers and taught His followers to also turn the other cheek is not enough...instead, a false-concept of Mary must be setup to make her the intercessor. Brother, that is a cunning lie of Satan. Mary is right now "asleep" (as Jesus put it in John 11 and as Paul refers to in his epistles) in her grave, waiting for the day when Jesus will return in the clouds and call forth All the righteous dead and give them new bodies, uncorrupted by mortality.

In real life they weren't even brothers. But, warlords in their own rights.
Also, the good guy here was Rollo. He saved them from the tyranny of his brother. As Ragnar wouldn't even keep up his promise.

You are welcome, I was happy, too, they are also my favourite.

The serie needs to be a bit historically accurate so they needed to put that Rollo died in peace
Despite the fact he betrayed Ragnar, it's good to see Rollo finally get some recognition.

Actually only Christ can forgive sins. The holy Mother can only pray for us. Right?
Yes
Can somebody Catholic actually write the dialogue or at least be consulted. No christain ever ever prayed to The virgin Mary to forgive a sin. Nobody.
Really...that's exactly what some Catholics do. And that is caused because their priests continually praise Mary like the queen of heaven.
