  • Today we're driving along one of the lines through the beautiful Jura mountains. I feel like this is one of my best videos to date. It's spring time, the sun is shining but it's not too warm yet - ideal for avoiding insects. In the summer months it can sound like its raining with the amount of insects that hit the windshield, especially driving 200km/h.
    This is the first video I'm "premiering" to give any viewers who would like to give the chance to do so during the premier, via the superchat function. Anybody who gives $5 or more will be given a link to download a high quality version of the video for private viewing. The funds raised will go towards making higher quality videos - more information and higher resolution. Thanks for your support.
    This is my second video with information on the screen. Unfortunately the GPS signal was not always that strong - possibly due to the nature of the terrain and cloud cover. Please note that the displayed speed is not accurate.
    I hope you enjoyed the video. If you'd like to donate, please click the following link. Donations will be used for equipment and software in order to bring you higher quality videos. www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...
    Turning off adblock will also help support my channel.
    Thanks for watching and have a great day!

    Gorgeous scenery! Very nice logistics on the screen, speed, direction, altitude, elevation and the path followed in the top left. Not even one cigarette butt anywhere. Wonderful!

Salut.

    Very interestng video with stunning scenery. Many years ago I too was a driver in the UK. You mentioned flys in summer, my memories of that were ineffective wipers that tended to spread the remains across the windshield.
    What about wet leaves in autumn, on that line it must be paricularly difficult to avoid wheel-slip..!
    Greetings from Britanny.

      Nice to meet another driver :)
      Yeah, the wipers don't help do they, especially if the bugs aren't "fresh" anymore.
      It seems like the tracks get a bit soapy wherever you are when it starts raining, but after some solid rain they get better.

  • @briancooper562
    @briancooper562 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very good. The plow markers indicate something of a winter challenge for this route as far as Moutier. Also why are the passing loops and platforms longer as far and including Moutier? Is there large passenger trains in the winter and summer for tourists and recreational activities? That tower crane going over the railway power wires is not normal, usually there is a frame to protect the railway.

  • @TheRealMarkS
    @TheRealMarkS 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great content, and I especially like that additional information that you overlay on the video. I don't know if this is possible, but if so, it would be amazing. Imagine being able to "sync" the video playback to a Google Earth view. Naturally, you wouldn't be looking down on the previously recorded (or even live) view of the train, but it would still provide the opportunity to see a relatively recent view of all of the area tied to the time markings of the video. Make sense? I'm probably just delirious. 😃

    • @cbr4610
      @cbr4610 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are surely some garden sheds, maybe there are also some little animals like chicken or rabbits in it. I don't think that there are some pigs or sheeps - laws for animal keeping are strict in Switzerland. For those animals, you need bigger spaces.

  • @zoqaeski
    @zoqaeski 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This was great. As exciting as busy mainlines with 200 km/h expresses are, there's something charming about a quiet branchline in the mountains. Are each of the stations along the route locally signalled, or is the entire line operated from some control centre in a major location?
    I prefer the videos without the GPS overlay. More often than not it seems to be inaccurate and is mildly distracting.

    • @lorirocks777
      @lorirocks777  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. A few stations between Sonceboz & Moutier are locally signalled, which gives driving there a completely different feeling. The line Moutier - Solothurn is a BLS line remote controlled from Spiez as far as I'm aware.

    • @zoqaeski
      @zoqaeski 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lorirocks777 That's really interesting. Here in Victoria, drivers need to know not just how the line is signalled, but also where and what kind of train detection system is in use because there are different rules for everything: there are signs announcing the start of axle counters instead of track circuits even though the signal aspects are the same. When I first moved to Melbourne, one of the lines was still using electric staff and staff-and-ticket for part of its length, so in order to proceed the driver didn't just have to follow the signals, but be in physical possession of a 20 cm long metal rod. It got replaced a few years ago with remote control from Epping, but for many years it was effectively a working museum.
      Different states have completely different signalling rules too: in Victoria, a green-over-red aspect indicates "Proceed at Full Speed", but in NSW the same aspect means "Next signal at Danger".

  • @alanmusicman3385
    @alanmusicman3385 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just gorgeous - my personal heaven would look just like this!
    Am i correct to think that the distance reading is supposed to show how far into the journey, but that the loss of GPS signal caused periodic resets? Or is it showing something else?

    • @lorirocks777
      @lorirocks777  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! The resets are due to the GoPro camera splitting the recording into segments. The app only allows GPS processing of seperate segments, so with each segment, the data resets.

    what is the resolution of your video pls?i know its says 1080 hd on youtube, but it looks blurry in places( like its 480p) not at all sharp as you would expect from high definition.

      It was shot at 2.7K, exported 1080 60p. TH-cam seems to suck at 60p. However, you can buy the video for $5.

    Sehr schön! Danke! Bei euch in der Schweiz ist alles dermaßen perfekt, auch und vor allem die Eisenbahn, daß ich als Deutscher irgendwie immer zwischen Bewunderung und Neid schwanke. Wie macht Ihr das nur? Am besten wäre es, die SBB und die BLS übernehmen die DB, geschenkt natürlich, weil für den Laden würde ich auch keinen Franken hergeben. In ein paar Jahren würde dann wenigstens bei der Eisenbahn auch in Deutschland alles vorbildlich klappen. Eure schöne Landschaft werden wir halt nie haben, aber saubere und pünktliche Züge, das wäre doch auch schon mal was, oder?

      Ich bewundere auch wie gut organisiert und sauber alles ist in der Schweiz.
      Lustigerweise hört man viel negatives über die Bahn in die Medien und auch bei kleine Verspätungen. Wenn es einen gut geht weiss man es manchmal nicht zu schätzen.
      Ich habe mal von Amerikaner gehört, wie sie die Bahn in deutschland gelobt hatten. In Amerika hat grossteils Güter der Vorrang im Verkehr.
      Gut wie es ist hier, haben auch gewisse Sachen abgenommen. Meiner Meinung nach nimmt der Komfort deutlich ab in neue Zügen wie der RABe 511 oder Twindexx. Mir gefallen optisch und komfortmässig Züge in Schweden am besten.
      Aber zurück zu Deutschland, sie hatten mal ein richtig stolzes Eisenbahnnetz. Anscheinend konnte man früher die Zeit stellen nach Züge.

      @@lorirocks777 Ja, das konnte man hier wirklich. Ich bin jetzt 65 Jahre alt und habe es als Kind und junger Mann noch erlebt. Der Spruch ging so : "Pünktlich wie die Eisenbahn!" Das war wirklich so. Wie tief sind wir gesunken!?

    A good video, but I don't think it's your best. Perhaps it was after lunch on a Sunday? I find watching people waiting at stations and action off track makes me feel much more that I am there, but in this video everywhere seemed deserted. The cows at 51:57 just before Langendorf suddenly brought the scene to life. The lady with the red shopping bags who travelled from Im Holz to Solothurn provided human interest. I loved the last minute before you switched off the camera. There were three or four stories happening in those few seconds!
    Early in my career I was a professional colourist and while Dr Moriarty is quite correct, I think he is expecting rather a lot from a GoPro looking through a laminated windscreen. For me the problem was more with slight overexposure at times - but these things can't be perfectly controlled when you are concentrating on driving a train, and once the image has been created, it can't always be corrected in editing. Sorry for rambling on so long.

      Thanks for your comment, much appreciated. That is also the reason I switched camera view after Oberdorf. The gopro overexposes as soon as there are trees left and right. On the plus side, it seems to have more dynamic range than my Fz1000.
