  • This fix cost just $20 in parts.
Requires low profile tube cutter such as the Brasscraft T405 (around $10 on Amazon/Lowes).
The OEM part number for just the yellow dipstick is 3L3Z-6750-DA.
I did not show it in the video but make sure that your old dipstick matches the length of the new one, otherwise your measurements may be off. You can use the horizontal "T" barbs as a base of measurement.

2007 F150, changed my oil last year without issues but today I can’t pull out my dipstick. I think I’ll just skip to cutting the tube. Thanks for the video and the timing!

Very nice job. Now I have an excuse to buy a tube cutter. My wife is always happy when I need a new tool 😂

I hope I can successfully pull my jammed stick out - but if not the tube cutting trick seems a better solution than having to replace the entire tube... CRAPPY plastic dipstick handles!! Thanks for sharing.

The reason the dipstick was stuck is because the dipstick tube formed a layer of rust where the o-ring seats. I just had the same problem. I hit it with some pb blaster, let it sit for 5 minutes and used a pair of pliers to turn it back and forth while pulling and it freed up. On my next day off I'm gonna use a bit of sandpaper to clean up the rust and hit it with more pb blaster before putting the dipstick back in.

I wish mine would've broke free that easy. I only change my oil every year because the truck is just a summer camper puller so it had a lot more rust.

Thanks for the video. I have a 2007 ford f150 and mine is stuck. I have the same heat gun so gonna give it a go this weekend. 👍

Good luck :) It's amazing so many people have this problem with such a basic component of a car.

Same thing happened to me. Ring broke right off. I like how you did it. If it gets stuck again, lossen a bolt. Might try this myself.

Make sure you really crank down the clamps. It has slipped off a few times but I just slide it back down on the shaft. For some reason even the new dipstick likes to stick.

Instead of cutting the tube I would have sprayed the dip stick with PB blaster

Mine is frozen too. 2006 5.4L. I'm going to try spraying Zep 45 see if that loosens the dip stick from the tube.

Unfortunately the dipstick tube actually broke on mine, right at the very bottom where it curves, came right out with the dipstick. And replacing that looks like a pain in the ass. $15 part that will probably take five hours to replace 🙄

Good luck on the removal, maybe make a youtube video on it, I didnt see one when I was researching it. I bought a mini ductor so I could heat it without using a flame but havent gotten around to replacing the dipstick tube yet. It's on the list ;)

Do you have an update on this? Mine is also broken in the same spot.

I bought a 2007. Not a daily driver. I failed to see there is no dip stick. The garage where I bought it plugged it with a wood screw. Not something I am use to looking at when purchasing a used vehicle. Looks like I will have to have it replaced.

You don't check the oil on a pre owned vehicle before you purchase??

2010 F-150. Had the same problem today. Used WD-40, let it sit for a few minutes and it wiggled off. Had trouble getting it to seat back. Same thing - more WD-40 and got it to seat back. Shouldn't be having this problem.

Not mechanically savvy but is there any harm to spraying WD-40 inside the tube to loose the dipstick and wouldn’t it run into the oil pan ???
