Also, people (mostly women) who always wear nail polish tend to have yellowing of the nails, too. If they stop wearing nail polish, healthy nails will eventually grow out. But the lack of exposure to oxygen and light to the nails is thought to cause this discoloration. I met a lady who always wore nail polish. And, then, one day she didn't-- and her nails looked horrible. I rarely wore nail polish again, not even clear. Yuck.

I have a problem with a nail in my foot, after a hit on a soccer game the nail went off, and from then it's like 2 nails grow on my finger, it looks nasty, and the top nail tends to fall off easily. That was like 20 years ago, I was treated for a fungus infection but it didn't solve the issue, I was expecting to see it here.

When I worked in a nursing home in my youth, I watched an old doctor examining the nails and fingers of his patients, then write out scripts.
I asked the RN how could he know what was wrong with anyone by looking at their fingernails. She informed me that the state of the fingernails could provide insight about the health of an individual.

I've been watching you for so many years!! My son just saw a rheumatologist last week after seeing numerous doctors for joint issues. He's been diagnosed with Post Streptococcal Reactive arthritis. He'll be taking antibiotics for the next 2 years to treat it. It's from watching your more recent videos in the medical practice that made me decide to insist on a rheumatology referral. I'm so glad I did. He's only 11, so hopefully this will be resolved and not cause him long term problems.

Love this type of video. You explain it so well and I think everyone should know this information and they can get it checked out sooner then later when its too late. My nails went weird after getting chemo and radiation for colen cancer. I had an operation 3 years ago and thankfully so far I am cancer free. 2 weeks ago my nails finally looked beautiful. I was thrilled. No thickning of the nais, no lines in the nail. They were stronger and not breaking which was brilliant. This morning I looked at my nails and the lines are starting to come back. I just got my CEA results back today 4,9 which cheered me up no end because 3 months ago it had risen to 6,8 for no apparent reason (the only thing that changed was I got my covid vaccinations). Could this have been an infection that I had and thats why my nails changed or my CEA was higher then normal because of an infection? Sorry hope I explained this ok. Thanks for sharing all yr videos. Really enjoy them and I learn so much xxx

Congrats on making it to PGY5! I would love to see a video that talks about autoimmune inflammatory diseases like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, etc. and the links between the immune response, inflammation, and cancer. I find it both fascinating (and kind of disturbing) how our immune systems go and prevent potential cancers every day, but the same immune system if it is over-active and causing chronic inflammation can cause cancer.

It's nice to see a doctor paying attention to details as opposed to an md quickly diagnosing and give you a med that you soon find out it doesn't work to give you something else that doesn't work either. But won't do testing to give you proper diagnosis.

I don't know if you are aware of how they used to do the 'patch test'. They would mark off your back with an ink pen first. Next, they would prick your back with surenges containing the compounds that they wanted to test. I had this test when I was 9 with 100 different compounds. I would have welcomed the stickers.

It grows and when I remove it it grows back. It seems like I have a small group of cells in my neck that produce nail. From a distance it looks like a scar. I have no idea how it's even possible.

Ive had ridges on my nails my whole life and i have always had a superior level of health and i only get sick once every 5-7 years. This is not a rule of thumb
edit: Im 54 now and not under any meds and in good health. My nails still have ridges. My grandpa lived to 95 and had the ridges too.

What about the lines or the ridges in all the nails on the hands?

Thanks for the enlightenment; but what is the right treatment for dark coloured or stripped nails?
