Back in the day when I started racing, this and the (modified) original hotshot were the it Tamiya race car in my country. They run against the Yokomo Dogfighter and Kyosho Optima Mids. More often than none, they won. They won many actually. There were plenty aftermarkets at the time but did you know you can sandwich the original hotshot FRP front stabilizer with the front shock towers? That was what the racers used to run back in the day. Cheers mate 🙏🏻
Wow, I have finally had my confusion cleared up. Thankyou for the history lesson! I had what I always knew as a Super Shot as a kid and could never figure out why you could only find info about a ‘Super Hot Shot’. I wondered if I was crazy and it didn’t even exist, but I guess it was just what people called it. I’d have to check but I don’t remember it even having the word ‘hot’ on it. Omg he just said that re: saying ’super shot’ on the wing. Brilliant! I remember it being quite the prized RC car back then. I had a Grasshopper first iirc, but felt like a legend when I got my super shot lol. I still have it too.
Forgot to say that I didn’t even know about the Egress until today! That’s amazing to me because I have been into RC cars for several year periods from my teen years.
It’s a stunning looking buggy- still has that realistic look that started to disappear in the later more capable buggies. It’s really quick with the super stock motor, but as you say the steering isn’t great when not on a loose surface.

I built 2 Hot shots back in the day, still have one here virtually unused, the other was used to death, looking back they werne't that well designed, motor pinions lasted no time, front upper arm pivot point wore out and they were pretty fragile, mine was fully ballraced, my mate made me a big batch of brass pinions that helped. Ran it as 2wd in the end, it was faster and more fun. I built 3 or 4 'Wild Ones', they were great fun and cheap, 2 original Wild Willy, a Frog and a Countach comp special. Tamiya certainly turned out some cars back then, a trip to Beaties Liverpool was the highlight of the week!
Was the first re-re I built after getting back into the hobby some years ago and agree wholeheartedly with your review. Has a massive nostalgia factor, the original being on nearly every enthusiast kids wish list. Never owned it back in the 80's so was a treat getting hold of the re-re. Built to box art and looks stunning. Enjoy!

Looking forward to the next video Glenn. We did a few upgrades to our Hotshot such as the independent shocks back in the day but the racing moved on swiftly to the Schumacher Cat, PB mini-mustang and Kyosho Optima so don't remember seeing many Super Hotshots. Have a great Christmas!
It is one of the most aggressive looking car they made, it just has that low, angry look to it! I don't have one yet but it is certainly at the top of the wish list of buggies to get!
I absolutely love the Hot shot series of cars and its took me a long time but I did manage to get an original Hot Shot 2 🙂It came with all its original radio gear and that one will be kept as is when its all been restored to box art.. I cannot wait to see the build of this one mate, really looking forward to it 👍 for me every time I see the a Hot Shot it just takes me back to my childhood in the 80's, what an amazing time to be a kid!
Always wanted a super shot as a kid but I had a boomerang so I bought the super shot dual damper upgrade for it with my 15th birthday money. Still remember staring at the upgrade box all the way home on the bus. Great memories!

G'day Glenn when I was a kid in the 80s I owned the hotshot with the upgrade yellow CVA shocks but supershot was still the dream car i wanted what a beast
We sold them in the 80's in Ayer Massachusetts. The ones we had in stock had the classic tamiya orange star sticker saying " technigold motor!" Only had a couple like that. Next batch we had in stick had the technipower, (which I liked better) once the Bigwig showed up it came with the techigold motor. I was 13-14 years old and couldn't afford either of them. But in the end I found I could beat them on the track with the thundershot, (equipped with technipower, and inside out hotshot wheels. and tires. Also had the black and blue tamiya 8.4 pack.) still have it! Just got the super hot shot recently, it is a nice car.
It was always the car I wanted from the Tamiya catalogue but could never dream of owning one back then. I now have the re-re and ran it last year at the iconic meeting here in the UK, winning the B final against boomerangs and bigwigs. Great fun!
I to thought that the super shot was the last and best 1 of the 3, and I also thought the technigold was the fastest motor of the 3... Well I can definitely say you learn something new everyday watching Tamiya legends 😊 Love my hotshot 2 dearly but the super shot is an absolute beaut👍❤️❤️
Its totally iconic! I remember when it was originally released I was on holiday in Scarborough and a poster in a model shop window with the box art and "now in stock" at the top😍 I remember as though it was yesterday! There is absolutely no rime or reason the way tamiya do things? It always baffles me when they go to some extremes on certain models then others they don't🤷♂️ the super hotshot totally needed a motor of it's own!
Love it. I was lucky enough to get an original super shot that was never run. The original owner built it and stuck it on the shelf. What a car. I also thought it was the last in line behind the hotshot II until a few years back. Funny how Tamiya works.

I remember these on hobby shop shelves- unobtainable to me back then due to $ and also by that time the kyosho optima reigned supreme on the track so they were passed over.

The Supershot was my 3rd r/c car in 1987, i got it after my Tamiya Falcon. Awesome buggy, i *really* regret not keeping it (along with the Falcon). Can't wait to see your build Glenn 👍
I always remember from back in the day how trick these looked and the rear shocks reached out so wide and that l always thought made it look so cool belting down the straight on the track! The Hotshot really was the one but this model was absolutely no disappointment it was something special in its self! Great vid Glenn 😉👍
It's quite a cool buggy! I like this one. Was the original Hotshot Tamiya's first 4wd buggy? I can't really remember, I think I had a friend who had one, where almost everyone else had Grasshoppers, and I had a Striker... It must have been an amazing thing to be able to make 4wd RC cars back then. Very nice to watch these, I love listening to your knowledge!
So wanted this kit when I was 13/14 but was too expensive so I got a boomerang instead, which I still loved. But you can't beat the super shots aggressive stance and how it just looked like it was moving fast even when it was standing still!

Love the Super Shot, that colour scheme was awesome and I think the yellow cvas compliment the red highlights. I had a hotshot after I had a hirobo zerda, and yea tbh the hotshot was pretty heavy and slow, it didn’t handle that well but parts were more readily available. The hirobo Zerda Glenn if you don’t know it did pretty well at race meetings around 85, but hirobo seemed to be interested in selling rc helicopters and stopped making rc cars. Thanks for this trip down memory lane 🙂
100% agree with every thing in the video , we must be on the page as you know mine was on the shelf for years and blew the cobwebs out of it with a nice second place in the vintage cup , the steering is super sweet on track and hooked up very well out of corners , but jumps its shocking but that was on a modern track , the areas where it was just rollers and old school style jumps the car is still a weapon

Funny, many years ago never was interested in any of Tamiya buggies, only the sedans. Now only interested in their buggies and none of the sedans. The Hot Shot family has one more and will be nice if Tamiya will also do a re re for it. Fingers crossed. Look forward to your build.
Absolutely top tier Tamiya design. Would love to see one in deep cherry metallic red as a nod to the Hot Shot II. The silver box art doesn't do it for me and I think that deep red compliments the gold wheels even more. Looking forward to seeing this come together.

Hi Glenn. It certainly looks like a great kit from Tamiya. I’m currently in the process of building mine as I type: going together very nicely and enjoyably indeed! Will leave the included GT Tuned motor for another RC project (Either the Voltswagen Kharman Ghia or when I finally grab hold of one - The Blockhead Motors Wild One) and put in a 3650KV Brushless instead. Can’t wait to see how this Bad Boy goes after it’s all done… Anyways, keep up the great content! 👍😊

Its funny hearing that absolutely gorgeous design described as a vintage RC. I still think it looks incredible and hasn't aged a bit. I just got the metal hubs for my super hot shot cuz I put a 4600 KV motor in it because I think the plastic would just get obliterate from that type of power.

This is my fave looking tamiya def need one this year at some point !!! Was gonna say you had one in your old collection and needed another. Just looks epic with the gold wheels and box art is tops, is pricey thought around 250 to 270 pounds uk price.

100% agree with every thing in the video , we must be on the page as you know mine was on the shelf for years and blew the cobwebs out of it with a nice second place in the vintage cup , the steering is super sweet on track and hooked up very well out of corners , but jumps its shocking but that was on a modern track , the areas where it was just rollers and old school style jumps the car is still a weapon

Funny, many years ago never was interested in any of Tamiya buggies, only the sedans. Now only interested in their buggies and none of the sedans.
The Hot Shot family has one more and will be nice if Tamiya will also do a re re for it. Fingers crossed.

Absolutely top tier Tamiya design. Would love to see one in deep cherry metallic red as a nod to the Hot Shot II. The silver box art doesn't do it for me and I think that deep red compliments the gold wheels even more. Looking forward to seeing this come together.

Literally just started getting back into RC after finding our Super Hornet we had as Kids, was looking at this to purchase although they are sold out everywhere here in Australia.

Hi Glenn. It certainly looks like a great kit from Tamiya. I’m currently in the process of building mine as I type: going together very nicely and enjoyably indeed! Will leave the included GT Tuned motor for another RC project (Either the Voltswagen Kharman Ghia or when I finally grab hold of one - The Blockhead Motors Wild One) and put in a 3650KV Brushless instead.
Can’t wait to see how this Bad Boy goes after it’s all done…

I just got the metal hubs for my super hot shot cuz I put a 4600 KV motor in it because I think the plastic would just get obliterate from that type of power.
