Big thank you to John for the loan of his lovely watch! A real sweetie this one. Definitely the best of the Explorer homages that I have encountered so far. I'm seriously tempted to pick one up, possibly the white dial, at the next restock. 36mm is great for me, but don't forget they also do a 40mm. Cheers, Jody
I'm betting Sir Edmund Hillary wore his Pagani Design Explorer to the top of Mount Everest.
Hmmm, now to check Ali X to see if the make one.
🤣🤣🤣
LOL
Jody: Thanks for reviewing the Smith's Everest. I recently waited and saved up and purchased the cream-face Smith's Everest Expedition 36mm and love it. This one is an homage to the Smith's Hillary carried to the top, except that the one e carried had the seconds hand dial at 6 o'clock. However, when Hillary decided to explore across Antarctica a couple years later he wore, not a Rolex, BUT a Smith's which looked just like this one, including the central seconds hand. This one keeps great time, fits my 6.5 in wrist well, and i wear it often. I had a Rolex 1016 purchased new in 1986, but gifted it to my daughter a few years ago. This Smith's scratches the itch! Keep doing what you do so well. I'd like to add a photo but cannot figure out how to do so. Thanks again, Mark
I managed to secure one of these from the last time it was stocked. It’s been on my wrist for the last 2 weeks and I love it. It’s my first experience with a 36mm watch and I think it suits my 6.75in wrist perfectly. Mine runs at about -1 to -3 seconds a day, can not complain!! The lume lasts through the night. I’ve been wearing it all night long, much to my wife’s chagrin, and it is always readable. 👍👍
I bought the Smith's Everest expedition 36mm last time timefactors opened for orders and I haven't worn anything else since. Such a great watch, the heat blued hands are particularly beautiful.
James Richardson LOVE the blued hands and alternate (“boobs”) Smiths logo!
I'm waiting for my order to be processed and shipped for the Expedition. So glad to hear people are happy with their purchase!
Anyone in the USA ordered one? The only supplier I’m finding is in the UK. Any issues getting it in a timely manner once it shipped?
I finally landed one on ebay that was not insanely price inflated. It's coming from your neck of the woods so I might need to wait close to a month for it to arrive in the states. I've rewatched this video a few times over the last year to keep my motivation to hunt for one on high. Thanks as always for your work!
I watched this when it came out in May '20 and have wanted this watch ever since. Finally managed to get one today and I'm really looking forward to it coming! Thanks for introducing me to this watch, it's really what I've been looking for
Nice one beautiful watch , my very first watch as a 1o year old back in 1975 was a Smiths boys watch black with luminous hands and a timer bezel , unfortunately i took this watch in the bath to bed and never took it off and beat it to death but what a watch.
Have a Smiths vintage peace from the late 70s now that during their last hoorah was made in Japan still looks good and goes like a trooper.
Great Vid Jody Thank You.
I haven't had any personal experience but see lots of comments that Eddie and Timefactors are pretty challenging to deal with.
I have this watch. I’ve known Eddie from timefactors for almost 20 years and I had long conversations with him about making the 36mm version. I’m so glad he did and happy for him that’s it’s selling well. Good video and lovely review .
Hi, I’m looking at buying an Everest. One concern is the minute hand. The minute hand looks really big and a lot thicker than the hour hand. They seem unbalanced. What do you think? The Lume picture in the video highlights my point very well.
then you know he treats his customers like shit right?
Tel him to stop being a bastard to his customers.
Perfect size; this is what a watch should be.
Sure...if you can read the dial???
Depends how big your wrist is...
@Ray Han tell that to your father and grandfather
The 36mm is just too small for a man. Go for the 40mm. Just ordered one.
nothing is perfect size . its depends on wrist size . i wear 30mm and 50mm watch on 7.5 inches wrist with musculer foreams . if you have a girly arms then you better dont wear big watches
I like a video that takes me to school. I love learning more about watch history as I try to expand my knowledge of the history of time pieces!
easier to buy the Rolex, than a Smiths Timefactors
Ha ha ha 😂
Lmfao
Lol
Easier to deal with Rolex than eddy as well.
1 year later, this statement is STILL true.
Glad to see the glowing review. I woke up at 6am PST to order an Everest Expedition knowing Eddie would close it down in minutes due to the rush of orders. I think he shut it down in less than 10 minutes.
There is also a 40mm version of this watch. I managed to snag one. Same movement etc., same price. I love it. Currently running at +2 seconds per day.
David Anderson Looking at this one right now..... I’ve a 6.5” wrist and see the lug to lug is over 49mm so it’s right in the edge for me?
Hi Jody, great review as always.
I was lucky enough to bag one of these from the latest release. I cannot recommend this watch highly enough, it’s absolutely cracking.
Make sure you have the finger on the trigger for the August release as they sell out almost immediately (unsurprisingly)
Beauty piece, I pulled the trigger on one of these about 6 months ago, the store opens & closes quickly so be ready. After some lackadaisical grabbing of my C-card I finally moved quick enough to grab one and when it arrived I was even more impressed with it up close. Super solid watch, slick looking piece with some cool history behind it. It’s understated but gets plenty of attention from watch guys to my wife even regular joe’s that don’t care to much about watches ask about it.
Love the 9 series Miyota which runs smooth, fit and finish are on point as well. Definitely a go to piece for all sorts of occasions that you won’t regret. Thanks again Jody for the review. I always know where to go for a solid review brother.
I almost ended up owning a vintage gold cased Smiths watch - one left to me by my Grandfather but worn to death by my Father. He left me the £12 Casio with big numbers that he wore in his dotage. Somehow I feel like I've lost out... My Grandfather's Smiths' was a square design dating from around the time of the first assent of Everest and for some reason I've had a hankering for a good square watch for well over half a century...
I have a vintage Smith watch left to me by my Grandfather, It was his 25 year service gift from GWR.
Eddie certainly doesn’t run his company in the way other brands do, but his watches are fantastic. I recently bought an Everest Expedition and I love it, the bracelet is outstanding
I wish more watch company’s would produce watches of this size. It’s so perfect!!
Man, Caseback Watches just put out a Smiths vid! Great brand!
3 things to love about this watch:
1. It’s classic design
2. British company
3. One of my all time favourite bands
If it's anything like the smith dials on old Land Rovers it won't work that well...
I would love all three models if I’m being honest, they are the best looking watches I have seen in a long time.
My grandpa probably had 8 in wrists and wore a 36mm every day. That just adds to the appeal for me.
In a really crowded space, your channel stands out. You give lots of great information, excellent selection of detail, at a crisp pace.
I have the cream dial / blued hands version of the Smiths Everest, and I’m here to tell ya it is superb!
By far my most comfortable piece - the 20mm ss bracelet makes the watch wear larger than you may expect.
Also, old school Smiths “boobs” logo is the best!!
I can only agree, I have that one too and it’s one of the best microbrand watches I have ever worn.
Those are really nice watches that while not historical per se, certainly evoke that historical feeling. Any major dude with half a heart surely will tell you, my friend.
The whole Smith’s range is stunning.
Yes I’m a big fan of eddies watches . His prs 32 vanguard (Paul Newman Daytona homage) is excellent too .
Pounced on one of these a few months back and LOVE it. Perfect exception to the rule of not buying homages.
F Sohail Yes it is! (Along with Steinhart’s Ocean 39 Explorer)
Willard Hooton agreed 👌🏽
This one is high in my list of keepers, definitey a superb way to discover that 36mm is perfectly appropriate.
this watch makes me wanna sing "this charming man" .l
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.
Just bought a secondhand Smiths PRS-40 automatic (b/c it was a great price/condition, and ordering anything from Timefactors can be tricky.... last time they opened up for orders on the 17th they filled up and closed them again in about 20 minutes 😬) and I’m loving it! They have some nice pieces. Very impressed with the quality. It’s a unique as well.
If this had the small seconds like the original, I'd sell my soul to buy one!
They do the PRS36 which has a cushion case and small seconds
@@robworthington7431 Yeah I checked that out but it doesn't grab my attention like the round ones. But the black dial military one is peaking my interest!
@MrFapianoo Yeah I love Orients but those odd lug widths are a bit of a sticking point.
1701spacecadet, Consider the Stowa maritime. It is similar in spirit to the WW2 dirty dozen.
@@robworthington7431 The PRS36 is a close match, but the dial finish is brushed metal. The original de Luxe was enamel. The cases are also different, PRS36 has distinctive corners while the de Luxe was round. I think the Bambino comes closer, despite the missing numbers. Apart from the Orient there are some Timex that are close - Fairfield or Waterbury retro lines.
What we really want is a Moser & Co - only a cool 20K 8-o
I am so glad that you did this one ! Amazing watch getting an amazing review !!! Some sense in a sea of large overdone dinner plates ! Smiths, what else ?
Gérard Langlois well put!
I was lucky enough to pick up one of these in the last order window. It came about a week ago and I haven't taken it off. Great watch, wears great and have to say quick response from Eddie on emails. Definately recommend taking the plunge, the better half is just about coming round to it as well!
Great review. It’s hard enough to get hold of one of these watches now... after your review they are going to be even harder! I’m glad I picked up my Everest expedition this week. One thing to note... although, as you stated, the bracelet does have 5 micro adjusts, you can actually only use 2 as the fake rivets stop the clasp from closing after the second adjustment.
Did you find that was a problem to get the right sizing?
Had my eyes on this for a while. I've said I'm going to buy a watch at the end of lockdown and I'm torn between so many right now
Great everyday wearable pieces!
Just bought the Everest expedition... just love the watch. Great review yet again..
Jodie the Shirt Logo took me back to a great time for me ...” Are YOU Reeling in the years --stowing away the time....ya da ya da ya da...
Great review as always - these Explorer style watches are my favorites. However, because I'm a big fan of the applied hour numbers on the dial I'd rather pick the Tisell Explorer or the Borealis Adraga instead of this one.
Borealis or Traska Summiteer both I think better than the Tisell, but more expensive!
Love the Adraga but so heavy on my smaller wrist - May have to flip it! I could wear this 36mm Everest and never take it off...it’s that comfy!!
Mate, I have the Bronze Adraga. Believe me it doesn’t disappoint.
@@JustOneMoreWatch Jody, would you go with Smiths over Traska Summiteer? There are few explorer homages you have featured on your channel. would be interesting to know your opinion. Let's say Smiths vs Traska vs Borealis. Thank you inn advance if you will notice my comment
Boreala Adraga feels big and heavy, regardless of the size specs. I reckon the 36mm Smith's would make a better choice if one likes the Explorer, especially with that thin case.
Great video as always Jody. You should check out Eddie's Smiths PRS-29A, which is an exact reissue of the Smiths W10 military watch that was issued to the British army in the 60s 70s. More original and truer to history than the Everest. I really regret not buying one a couple of years back.
So funny that you AND Caseback Watches review Smiths watches on the same day and that Eddie sent watches for review to Tim and not to Jodi 🤣
I own the Smiths PRS-25 Everest and absolutely love it! Great video 👍
Good stuff.Bit of trivia .If a vintage smiths has England at 6 o'Clock it was a higher end model made in Cheltenham. If it says UK it was an entry level offering built under contract in Wales and never really intended to be serviced.Smiths deluxe was higher end.Cheers!
the Smiths prs-25 is the most worn watch here, and I can tell you I have +50 watches laying around here :-)
Identical experience here!!
Me too! Brilliant watch👍🏾
This lil chunky beauty makes it's way onto my wrist every single day. I also can't get over how simple yet polarizing it is.
You sir, are responsible for most of my expenses. I am going to get one of these also. Thanks. A. Lot. Joddie.
Not sure if I mentioned this before, but, I went to grammar school not to far from the Smiths factory in Cheltenham Spa. What I noticed that the number of pupils that had new Smiths watches corollated with the parents who worked there. The only other Smiths were genuine W.D. as their fathers were stationed nearby in the many left over R.A.F. bases of the 'cold war'. Myself I was given an automatic Ingersoll which survived on my fathers wrist until the early seventies as I'd been given a non Pogue, Pogue Seiko for my twenty first birthday. What I can remember was the Smiths watches told the time as good as my Ingersoll i.e.they would be on time twice a day the rest of the time 'somewhere near' I am sure that the modern Minot's now fitted would be a lot more accurate and dependable. I would say that if the New Zealander kept Smiths in his pocket and used the Rolex on his wrist would be a wise move!
Thank you for a fantastic review Jody and thank you John for sharing this spectacular little watch with us 😊👍
I have an original Smiths deluxe hand wind 34 mm made in 1954 in solid gold left to me by my grandfather , amazingly it's worth no more than this homage one
But it is priceless at the same time! Cheers mate.
The Smiths Everest Expedition PRS-25W with retro creme dial and red second hand is extremely handsome.
A fine video, and a bit of good history. Kind of new in the watch game, i'm learning a lot from your channel, thx and keep up the good work.
Most people in the Netherlands think Smiths is a brand of crisps. I think first of the dials in the dashboard of the original Mini and the Austin1300. Secondly heaven knows I am miserable now because they are very hard to get.
Go to the site and order at the moment Eddie posts the ordering window. You will get one. I used that strategy last week, and voila! I was able to order the 40mm. You have to order immediately. If you wait an hour, you will be left out in the proverbial cold.
I have been very happy with mine PRS-25W in the past months.
Love it when the watches have this kind of dimension... beautiful watch n beautiful review...
Love the Steely Dan shirt, Jody!
Jody, as if I didn't like you before, that steve Irwin statue is a deal sealer. Love the channel
I don't mind homage watches - but it's a homage of the wrong watch! With "Smiths" on the dial it should be a creamy-coloured small seconds homage of the De Luxe, which was a pretty nice watch. The world is full of Rx homages.
They re made the watch Hillary took to the South Pole. (I think it is the first wristwatch on South Pole too)
They have that too.
Indeed the 1953 Everest expedition wristwatches were cream dial watches, see the May 26, 1953 color photo showing Englsih climber Tom Bourdillon near the South summit !
The Smiths PRS25 Everest Expedition, has the cream dial and crown on logo, which would be nearer to it
The Smith Everest Expedition is actually the watch closer to the De Luxe that reached the summit of the Mt. Everest.
If there is ever a watch that has done it right in the "Homage" realm it is the Smith's Everest. I had this same watch and at 36mm it totally changed my thoughts on what size of watch is perfect. I have a 7 inch wrist and this watch sits so well on the wrist that I now prefer a watch in the 36-37mm range. Well done Jody on this well done video on a well made watch.
I have a 39mm Datejust and it's oversized on my wrist. 36mm is defined the sweet spot imo, or smaller still. I don't like big watches at all
It looks great on your wrist, but as you said, on my 8 1/2” wrist it would look like a postage stamp! Great video as always Jody!!!
Got this just recently and was afraid that it will be too small, turns out 36mm is such a perfect size. This is my first experience with a Miyota movement and I wish they would have gone for an ETA movement instead. Got into an argument with my wife the other day and I emphasized the point I was trying to make by moving my hand and the only sound in the room after that was the noise of the rotor ... quite awkward, considering my wife was was angry with me about buying another watch.
I have been heavily considering this watch recently and this video has sealed my fate.
I have a left wrist that is 8" (used to be 8.25") and own a Tiger Concept 36mm 1016 homage. I bought it as I was worried about how a 90s Rolex Explorer (saving up) might look and feel on me. I can confirm that there is nothing to worry about. The watch looks and feels great on my wrist. I can't stress enough that us people with chunky wrists need to stop worrying... 36mm is a great watch size. Anything larger than 40mm that isn't either for 200m+ diving or has multiple complications (like a chrono) is nearing excessive. 36mm suits a dress watch as well as a rugged sports\field watch with 50m to 100m water resistance being ample.
Keep coming back to this video. Great watch. The bracelet seems a little wide though. Almost makes the whole watch like a bracelet. The watch doesn't stand out quite enough. The 40mm watch has a different clasp though. Gorgeous watch though
Ordered mine yesterday ☺
So youre one of the 3 lucky people that got to order the last batch, lucky! Consider yourself winning the lottery lol
Thanks for the review from Down Under. Cheers from NYC
Jody, your videos are simply the best. Thank you!
Thanks for watching them Jeff!
More interest in the Expedition, which is an homage to a Smiths watch that Hilary and Fuchs took to Antarctica.
YES! I think both are great watches (I own this black dial homage), but it was a hard choice between it and the creme dial Expedition. I might pick that one up some day.
It should be noted that Smiths watches is related to Smiths Instruments, the automotive instrument brand common in older Jaguars and other British cars. The instrument mfg is now owned by Caerbont Automotive Instruments in South Wales.
Lovely and having owned cars with SMITHS instruments I like that association. Would have to be the 40mm though, but deffo one to consider. Plus of course another cracking review Jody. 😃👍
Great to see a time factors review, I have two the original Everst and a PRS68 and love them both.
Looks great! Been wanting after the PRS29 Air Ministry. Thanks for review!
the significant other will notice £3.20 never mind £320 :D
I've been Interested in this Smith since quite a long time but I didn't know too much about it. Let's watch your review!
Yeah, just put a dot on the bill! They'll never know...
Just buy it if you want it.
Hahahahaha pmsl. I totally understand 😂
Good honest review! Well done. I've purchased numerous Timefactors watches over the years. Brilliant brand with honest bang for buck watches..
Cheers, Chris
So happy you’re reviewing the updated one with improved bracelet. The previous bracelet was just not a match for this watch.
That cream coloured Everest Explorer with the red seconds hand is amazing. Pity it's only 36mm, but I hear you say there's a 40mm version so I might need to check this out!
One of your best videos. Congratulations 😉
Thanks, Jody, been looking at the 40mm for a while, looks even better now...on second thought, dang you Jody.😉🤣
A lovely watch. It would probably be my number one if I decide to buy an Explorer type watch. It is a homage, but for me something sets it apart from the rest. Not sure what that is, but I love it!
This is the Explorer homage I would go for because of the history.
Looking at the multi layer cream dial version, looks more original
It's Dawson Cream dial takes Everest to the next level (heat blued hands / logo are great, original touches too!)
I picked up the black one in this video and I love it. It definitely has me thinking of picking up the creme dial expedition as well.
Oh why oh why are they doing a hommage of the second watch on the summit instead of the original in 36 or 38mm
That one would be my choice!
WOW - thx! I have a Birthday coming in July but can wait another month or two for this nice watch!
I just bought the Commando, and will shortly be making my own video. My only issue is the polished back.
Another great review Jody. Thanks to you, I just bought a pre-owned 40mm on eBay. Appreciate your awesome reviews and charismatic style. Merry Christmas 🎄 and Happy New Year 🍾
I have one coming and have this movement in my Seals Dark Seal 200m. Yes you can hear it, but it is a lot quieter than the rotor on the Omega 300m ceramic/titanium for example, which I love to hear the rotor on, and I was actually disappointed that the Miyota movement was quieter.
The Steinhart Ocean one has the same face as the Rolex Explorer or the Smith Everest. But the Steinhart is in Bronze available. I bought the green ocean one with straps made from canvas. There is also Rubber or Leather available. The motor is a Eta 2824-2 elabore. 1000ft water resistant.
Great looking watch. Look forward to getting one.
Glad Smiths is getting more exposure! I've just got my hands on a PRS29A, a recreation of the old military issued Smiths W10. Couldn't be happier with it, I think the PRS29A and Everest Expidition watches have great history and am a bit sad only the Rolex homage gets looked at.
SirAzul, I think that may be about to change.
Stunner. I’m gonna go for one, something to look forward to! Thanks Jody, great review (do you know where the watch is actually assembled?)
Love Eddie's watches and have bought a few straps and one watch from him in the past as well as regularly oggling his divers. He's a bit like Rolex in the sense that his watches generally appreciate - so reasonably priced and made in limited runs has gotta help. Did I see a little raggedness around the cut on the hands though?
Ahh Jody! You always make my work poo’s longer than they should be
deep pan 😂
Great review 👍 I was fortunate enough to get the Smiths Everest Expedition this last round.... waiting impatiently for delivery.... love the rivet bracelet.....u need to review this model next.
Hi Jody! Thanks for another interesting review, nice watch. There are some rumours the new Proteus will be very soon featured on your channel... Can't wait! Cheers, M.
Heads up my fellow timepeace connoisseurs. The manufacture of the Smiths PRS-25, Eddie, is real jerk. I will never purchase a watch from him after I saw the rude emails he sent other watch reviewers over defective watches.
Really? That's not a good thing. You have any references i can refer to?
I learn something new, about Mount Everet and that brand. Keep the good work. P.S. please make a review of the new Bulova A-15 Pilot watch
I've had a PRS-25 for 16 months and it's a great watch. However, I have three criticisms.
1) The screwing in of the crown is a bit gritty.
2) You cannot use all of the micro-adjustments, as the fake rivets foul against the leading edge of the clasp.
3) The clasp isn't secure enough.
Dennis, Was that the current version of the bracelet, or the previous iteration?
Agreed on the first two points. I did get it to wear on elastic so not a massive issue for me, but you would need to grind the faux rivets down to fit inside the clasp and use some of the micro adjustment. I'm on the Expedition latest release.
Been wanting to buy one of these for three months now can’t wait until they are back in stock.
Hi Jody, I was wondering what were your thought on the Bulova Precisionnist? Do you think the continuous-sweep second hand is a drawcard for a quartz watch?
On my list! Hopefully I can pick one up from Jomashop in the next batch!
I've got a Sea King (98B242). Big, heavy, and that sweeping second hand...
Awesome quartz
Jody what about the bracelet feel? I watched previous reviews and they had an earlier version of the bracelet who felt super bulky. This seems better on video, but what are your thoughts on the feel, would you say it is a great feeling bracelet or an average one? Would you sport it for days with no complaints? I'm considering this watch for my self as a daily wear and I love a good bracelet much more than a good strap.
Fedimusic New clasp is absolutely perfect! I’m picky, and I could wear this watch forever - no fatigue!
@@willardhooton920 awesome! and the feel of the bracelet over all? is it quite solid, no hair pulling or rattles?
Got mine yesterday stunning watch.
- Ive seen issues with the clasp. I think I’d go with the Lorier Falcon
Reminds me of my vintage LeRoy granted mine is of the era but it just shows a classic doesn't age
Had my eye on this for a while now... 🤔
