If you have a pond on your property, consider installing a Dry Hydrant for Fire Department use. This will give the FD access to a water source even if the pond is frozen.

I don’t live too far from you (Annapolis Valley) and after witnessing the wildfires devastating families in Upper Tantallon, I think this is a very wise decision on your part. Especially given the drone shot of your compound. Many of those families affected by the wildfires are now calling for emergency exits to be built in connection to Highway 103. This could be life saving, so that it will prevent some people driving through smoke and walls of flame in long lines of traffic. You’ve obviously planned this out very well and done your due diligence. Bravo!

In Japanese, "Kubota" means a rice paddy that's filled with water, a prerequisite to the harvest. I'd suggest naming him either "Paddy", like the Irish name but with the asterisk pointing to the Japanese origin, or "Edgar" after Edgar RICE Burrows, the American writer from the beat generation. (Picking up on the rice theme.)

Tip for measuring tape reel when winding back in. Face backwards towards the far end of the tape, run the tape through you legs and apply gentle pressure as you reel it in. It will wind on the reel perfectly.

I am so glad that you are finally getting a secondary egress route! Now you need to start thinking about a tertiary route and what you can do to create a fire break around the house plus clearing all of the combustible debris on the forest floor and raise the lower branches (cutting off the lower branches) to a height between 3 and 4 meters. Your government fire service can explain the benefits of doing all of this and how to best manage your land to help prevent, reduce, and mitigate the damage that is caused by wildland fires and what materials you want to keep away from all your structures. Mulch is a real no no to have around any structure because is combusts extremely easily by embers.

📌 DOODLEBUG (aka Antlion) as they DIG in sand & move rock with their big protruting jaws!! Antlions are also known as Doodlebugs in North America because of the winding trails their larvae make in the sand when they dig traps to catch ants. 👍🏻 The perfect name for your tractor! When I was a kid my brother & I used to find them digging in the sand. 😉 They turn into what looks like a damselfly (small dragonfly). Perfect name!
