Since I've seen Rory's TED talk, I can say something about his playing. He started playing very young and the guitar was too big and heavy for him to hold, so he put it on his lap. But, since he is blind, he never saw how other people played the guitar and he just kept playing this way. Joscho is German and he even has some gypsy ancestry, but he says that has nothing to do with him getting into gypsy jazz. Rory is American and Richard is originally from the UK, but he lives in the US, as far as I know.
