This is one of my most favourite songs ever written..and in all fairness, Justin is probably the only other person who could covered it and do it reasonable justice. Sparks are amazing.

Justin is excellent. Glam rock theater man with an incredible range. It's great that their best songs are in the tens of millions in views.

The worst part about the pandemic (for me) was their April show that got canceled (ironically enough, it was from their "Easter is Canceled" tour). I think about that all the time! I really hope I get to see them live someday.

I've always thought the music of Sparks has a theatrical quality to it that reminds me of Queen, and this cover doubles down on that. I absolutely love this!

Their latest album 'A Steady Drip Drip Drip' (2020) is brilliant, and they are currently recording for another one!
(The album Rundgren produced was 'Halfnelson'/'Sparks')
OMG.... so i knew of this song, and knew it was a cover, but didn't know of the original band, and now there is a movie about them coming out.... and so i watch this video and WHAAAMMO, there they are, hahahaha this is awesome, i love this song.
@@jamespolnick5302 I hope you'll take the time to check up the rest of Sparks' 25 all together albums and singles, and you can find exquisite demos, whereof some where released, in their demo form, on the anniversary edition of Gratuitous Sax and Senseless Violins 2019, and the AMAZING (I just love it!) 'Computor Girl', one of a couple, Ron's and Russell's first recordings, "rent a studio by hours", 1967, January. It's on the 'Best of Sparks, Past Tense' album, also 2019. The lyrics!!! -67, and not "robot girl"!
The first message from one computor to another was sent that year, before the Internet. And Ron and Russell...!? ❤️💖💖

My album suggestions to start with:

And here follow nearly every album since 2000 😂I simply can't pick 2-3!! They are also very different from eachother, which is a trade mark for Sparks, their two first albums from 1971 and -72 are similar, 'Kimono' and 'Propaganda' too. In the eighties a couple of albums also somewhat similar to eachother. That's it, of 24 studio albums as 'Sparks', one radio musical commisioned by the Swedish public radio, Sveriges Radio, 2009, 'The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman', one collection from a tour Ron and Russell did without a band, 'Two Hands One Mouth", 2012, one collaboration with Franz Ferdinand (FFS, 2015). The 24 albums depends on what you mean with' studio album', now Russell says 25, but a year ago, when 'A Steady Drip Drip Drip' were released they regarded that to be the 24th.

I believe you will find something you like, if not a full album, some songs here, some there. The albums are as varied in their styles as the albums. Which says a lot about the genius those two gentlemen possess.

I have a friend called Justin Hawkins. Different guy though, I think. Probably from different towns too.
The fact that they used Russel Mael to evict a streaker while Ron Mael looks on menacingly makes me so happy. That clearly was the best use of their time imaginable. Isn't a cover that has been authorized like this a bit like coitus under parental supervision? Food for thought.

Funniest video ever made on the best cover ever made by the craziest band that ever existed covering another craziest band that ever existed but about 30 years earlier.
Great melodic structure; Glam Rock was pretty sophisticated stuff. I have been trying to get one of the phrases by ear, I can't get the second ascending phrase, will have to go to the MIDI file, I want to do an EDM version, with all the component themes broken up, repeated but then transitioning into each other. This is a great version, the lyrics are easier to listen to, and that wonderful vocal, of course.
glam rock wasn't sophisticated at all, this song seems like more of a tip of the cap to queen who ere probably the most complex mainstream band of all time.
brian bridges this song is originally from Spark's album Kimono My House which came out in May 1974. Yes, Queen's first album came out in 1973.....and pretty well went nowhere. Queen didn't hit the mainstream until their 4th album Killer Queen.....
maybe both bands were from the same scene, i don't know but there's too much complexity on that song to be a hit for an unkown band, the nly way it would have stood a chance is with a band who were alredy well past breaking the manstream with 'prettier' songs......... such as the darkness.
